Dr. Anthony fauci is playing down a call for nationwide lockdown to slow the spread of covid19. Dr. Fauci appeared on Good Morning America a day of dr. Michael osterholm an advisor to biden shut down the floating of shutting down businesses four to six weeks and paying americans to stay home. Dr. Fauci doesnt think a step is necessary. There is no appetite for locking down on the American Public but i believe we can do it without a lockdown. I really do. Help is really on the way. Vaccines are going to have a major positive impact. Fauci believes vaccines will start to be distributed in december and become widely available in the spring and early summer. He once again stressed the importance of wearing a mask, distancing and continuing to do activities outdoors even as we head into winter. A new Study Compares various state and federal responses to the pandemic and concludes an early nationwide mask mandate would have been the number one saver of lives. The study by economics and statistics experts was done by a Santa Clara University professor and others. They found had a federal mask mandate went into effect in mid march and mid april, between 90,000 and 180 dea,000 deaths c have been prevented. That time period of march and april is providing Scientific Evidence that could solve a completely Different Health problem, air pollution. One of the proposed solutions is electric cars. Its the environmental trade off we make every day. The bay areas popular commuter corridors are also air pollution allies but a study is pointing out the power of a clean solution. Yes, so weve been thinking about this as a model for the electric car. Reporter he and his team spent a decade building a network of co 2 sensors scattered they can measure Carbon Dioxide and other pollutants and that a historic opportunity as the bay area began the covid19 shelter in place. We saw this incredible change that occurred the amount of co 2 released to the atmosphere in the bay area was 25 lower in that period than just before the lockdown six weeks before. Reporter he says the purple peaks represent the daily spikes during the sixweek run up while the green areas show the drop during the shelter in place but he believes the rubber really meets the road in another set of images. They show what the drop looked like along major bay area freeways with the lighter concentration of purple mirroring the positive effect that electric vehicles could have on those same corridors. The thing about electric cars is its especially easy to think about. Electric cars are at a power plant far away. They have no combustion related emissions on the road so electric car on the road is the same as no car on the road. He believes the Monitoring System is powerful because it can zero in on freeways but adjacent neighborhoods providing one more argument for the environmental benefit electric cars could provide to the bay area. Professor cohen and his team have begun a similar sensor system in scotland. The goal is to have it operational in time for the United Nations Climate Change conference that happens in 2021.
