Hi, julian. Good morning. If we know anything about misinformation and disinformation, it spreads more quickly online faster than the truth does. Thats why facebook and twitter are making efforts to try to label that misinformation, but how theyre handling it tween the two companies is different. Thats what drew activists outside of the facebook headquarters yesterday to protest. Twitter hq in San Francisco and facebooks headquarters in menlo park. When President Trump tweeted early wednesday where he baselessly claimed were up big but theyre trying to steal the election, twitter hid the tweet behind the label and restricted how it can be shared so you cannot directly retweet it. Facebook used vague language in its labeling, did not restrict how the post can be viewed or shared. According to cnn the two most popular posts on facebook in the past 24 hours are posts from trump making false claims about Election Results. Twitter has actually done perhaps the best job out of any of the social networks at labeling misinformation. Social Networks Must continue their policies from anyone calling the election early or specific states early or claiming there is fraud in the election process. They must remember that lies spread faster than the truth. Facebook is running notifications in the top of users feeds on the platform and the other it owns, instagram, reminding users that the votes are still being recorded. Some call this censorship by big tech companies, but the activists just see it as a megaphone for the president to spreads d spread disinformation. And cnn reported that theres a stop the Facebook Group that is growing by 1,000 new members every few seconds. All types of baseless claims in this group. Im Julian Glover, abc7 news.
