The debate opened up with the Trump Administrations response to the coronavirus and covered topics from the future of the Supreme Court, the economy and health care as well. Both candidates evaded questions. Most notably on whether harris and biden would increase seats on the Supreme Court and pence on the state abortion laws. Most illuminating exchanges was the back and forth on Climate Change and california wildfires. The climate is changing. The issue is whats the cause and what do we do about it . There are no more hurricanes today than there were 100 years ago. Thank you. But many of the climate alarmists use hurricane and wildfires to sell a bill of goods of a green new deal. We have seen a pattern with this administration they dont believe science. Joes plan says we will deal with it and also create jobs. We should keep in mind with President Trump now 74 and the former Vice President , joe biden, now 78, either of the two people we saw on stage last night could be called upon to lead the nation and the next four years if the health of either men declines. A somber morning for San Francisco firefighters who suffered a sudden and terrible loss yesterday. A training accident killed 13year veteran jason cortez. Amy hollyfield is live in the Mission District with what we know so far about how this all happened. I want to show you the tribute thats starting to gather outside station number 7. People left flowers and cards thanking him for his service. He was training here at this station when he died. 42yearold kevin cortez worked for the Fire Department for 13 years. He was involved in a Training Exercise when he died. Firefighters tell us he fell during the Training Exercise and fell three stories. Im unable to say anything about the accident other than it was tragic. We are all heart broken. Hundreds of firefighters lined up outside of San Franciscos General Hospital as the flagdraped casket of the husband and father of two was carried out. He was following in his fathers footsteps becoming a firefighter. His father also served as a firefighter. Cortez worked at station number 3 in the tenderloin. Labor Department Released the latest weekly jobless claims report. 840,000 people filed for Unemployment Benefits last week. That is slightly higher than what economists projected. They projected around 825,000. Its the sixth week in a row that new jobless claims are under 1 million. There are more than 10. 97 million continuing claims. Shes searching for open roles for you and she has a Company Looking to hire thousands of people right here in the bay area as we speak. Jobina . Yes, reggie. I know we have not gotten to halloween yet everybody, i understand. But u. P. S. Is already focused on the holiday season. For anyone thinking, all right, no, this will be just some sort of temporary gig, im told many of these roles could turn into fulltime positions with benefits. Calling you. I was trying to see if you have job openings. You do . Thousands . Im hooking up with u. P. S. Each peak season our volume nearly doubles. So this year of course is unique with the pandemic. Nationally the Company Plans to hire more than 100,000 seasonal employees. In the bay area we plan to hire over 3,000 people and thats for seasonal positions and even some permanent positions. Driver helpers starting at 23 an hour and package handlers starting at 16 an hour. There are other roles, too. About 35 of people hired by u. P. S. For seasonal jobs were later hired for permanent positions. Nearly a third of the companys u. S. Work force started with seasonal work. Personally im one of those examples. I started as a peak season hire, and i was able to stay on after the holiday, and i really found that the culture was outstanding.
