Were happy to have the 2 . Evacuations go up and down depentding on what side of the fire youre on. The wind pushed it and produced more evacuation orders. Tomorrow we have reports well be seeing red flag conditions again. Why has the acreage stayed pretty steady but the numbers of structures in danger doubled. It kind of depends on where the fire moves to. Like said, were able to remove some of the evacuation orders and warnings and then others were put in place. Its depending on where the fire is moving. Its moving with the terrain. It could be its spreading more out rather than being pushed by the wind which would put it more in a line i guess you would say. I know youve been trying to keep the fire from crossing california 29 north of calistoga. Where are your key battle fronts right now . Right now theyre trying to prepare for whats expected tomorrow which would be more winds more out of the north. Theyll be dry and gusty. That, once again, would push the wind just like it did the day it started. It would push it more heading south and southwest. Theyll be working hard to button up those lines today and tonight and hopefully with the calmer weather tonight, theyll be able to make successful containment lines. I know the terrain is a challenge there. Theres really steep hillsides. Talk about the main challenges. I know thats coming up tomorrow. Right at this moment, if anybody that lives in the area can step outside, its unbelievable how smoky it is right now, even where im located. So that makes the challenging, aircraft not able to fly in these areas. We hope to get the aircraft up to help out with the guys on the ground. They can make a tremendous difference. In terms of the guys on the ground and gals, how are you doing on staffing at this point and personnel . Were going on a few days now. Of course, it wasnt that long ago when you had to deal with the other fires and just it keeps going. So how are you on staffing . So when we had the lightning fires sparked many in mid august, that took up quite a bit of resources. As soon as we got those wrapped up and started to see things winding down, these fires broke out. So while its not unusual to see fires this time of year, were in historically the worst months for fire season in the state of california, its already been a rough year. Were doing our best to give our firefighters some time off and get some breaks. Ultimately theyre on board for the long haul. If they have to work, theyll do it. The men and women are heroes. I want to ask if you have s on s restrc builhave bn damaged. Last we heard it was close to 20. Do you have any updated figures . Overall i know structure damage is ove inc homes and businesses, kind of a combination number. As our inspectors are out there, theyre coming out with more numbers. We should have new ones in the morning. Any new word on injuries . Deaths . We certainly hope not. Any updates there . We kind of expect minor injuries in pretty much any fire because youre going out in really rough terrain. Youll see ankle injuries, heat injuries, that sort of thing. Nothing major, fortunately, and no deaths on this fire. We did have one additional death reported in the zog fire bringing the total on that one to four. Are there any early preliminary indications yet where the glass fire may have originated . You know, we dont have any details on what the cause was, but we do have numerous investigators out there looking into it. Theyll do a thorough investigation. Look at all the possibilities of what caused it and narrow it down to whatever was the specific cause and when that report comes out, well make it available. In terms of evacuations, any new areas today . I know yesterday angwin is a spot where some folks were saying they would rather stay despite orders to leave. Can you talk about that . No new evacuations today that ive seen come across which is definitely a good thing. Thats a good sign. But, of course, that could change at any time, especially if we start seeing the weather acting up again. Thats going to be a problem. We just ask that everybody Pay Attention. Even if you think you dont want to leave, its better that you just go ahead and leave. If weve got to protect your home, well do it as best we can. I always say we can rebuild a house, but we cant bring you back. Okay. I asked you if you had any thoughts or preliminary indications where this might have originated. One of our furs is asking on facebook, any details you can share on your investigation . Unfortunately, i dont have any details that i can share. Mainly because i dont know because im not involved in the investigation. Number two, they try to get most of the investigation completed. They dont want to start a rumor mill or put out details that are false and can create problems. Theyll do their best to find out exactly what caused the fire. As soon as they know, theyll release it. One final message you might have for residents in the area right now . Just one message i would say is Pay Attention to whats going on around you. Listen to the warnings or any information that you get from any Law Enforcement or fire personnel. All right. Lynn tomochov, thank you so much, with cal fire. Thanks for keeping up updated. Take care. Thanks for having me. Were keeping evacuations and the latest evacuation information scrolling on the bottom of your screen. We want to get the latest on the conditions as they pertain to the battle against the fire. Spencer, you heard the cal fire spokeswoman talk about how tomorrow things are going to pick up for them and its a very dangerous time. Thus true, kristen. The winds are expected to get a bit stronger. Relative humidity is going to be lower than it is today and hotter tomorrow. So thats all the bad ingredients for firefighting. Here is a look at Current Conditions near the glass fire, 87 degrees. Its not hot today generally in the communities around the fire. Obviously closer to where things are burning it is hotter. Relative humidity is down to 28 . Thats very low. The wind is light at the moment. Thats an encouraging factor. However, we dont expect the wind to remain light over the next 24 hours. Weve got surface winds under ten miles per hour. Occasional moderate gusts up to about eight to 12 miles per lohe forecast animation and how the picture is going to change tomorrow. So overnight tonight, not so much of an increase in the winds. By 7 00 tomorrow evening were going to see an increase in the afternoon and evening tomorrow with gusts up to about 30 miles per hour. That puts us into the fire danger zone. Winds will taper off a little bit overnight tomorrow night, but going into friday morning they increase again with gusts up to about 30 miles per hour. Under these conditions, of course, with the very low humidity and the increase in temperatures were expecting and these occasional gusts, fires can spread rapidly. On we go to a look at the red flag warning for high fire danger. This is in effect for much of the north bay, marin, napa, sonoma and beyond with, again, increasing gusts, decreasing humidity and hot conditions, this is for the Higher Elevations of the north bay. Along with this we have a heat advisory in effect from 11 00 a. M. Tomorrow to 8 00 p. M. Tomorrow. This is for all of the bay area with the exception of the immediate coastline as it gets hotter and hotter, that increases the risk of heatrelated illness. The air quality is going to be poor to very poor for the next two days. Tomorrow and friday are both sparetheair days. Ill have the full forecast a little later, kristen. Spencer, so the air quality is going to get worse tomorrow . Today it already feels pretty bad, pretty hazy compared to yesterday. It is very bad today and much of the bay area. If i had todays air quality outlook, it looks almost exactly like what were going to see on thursday and friday. Weve got the poorest air quality in the north bay, of course, because thats where the fires are burning. And in the inland east bay and pretty much the same picture tomorrow, even though well get a shift in the wind flow, its not going to be able to blow all that smoke out of there. We have the increase in temperatures tomorrow. And the marine layer will be gone. Thats going to allow all the pollutants in the atmosphere to just hang there and linger. All right. At least a little better on the weekend so folks can hopefully by that point get out a little bit. Spencer, thank you so much for that latest look at the weather conditions. Were going to take a short break. But were going to look closely at the breakdown, what we learned fro humira patients,. This ones for you. You inspired us to make your with humira citratefree. It has the same effectiveness you know and trust, but we removed the citrate buffers, theres less liquid, and a thinner needle. With less pain immediately following injection. Ask your doctor about humira citratefree. And you can use your copay card to pay as little as 5 a month. Humira can lower your ability to fight infections. Serious and sometimes fatal infections,. Dont start humira if you have an infection. Ask your doctor about humira citratefree. The same humira you trust with less pain immediately following injection. If you cant afford your medicine, abbvie may be able to help. All right. The president ial debate dominated the night last night and the conversation this morning as well, but did we actually learn anything . Joining us from politico is political reporter carla marinucci. Good to see you. Always good to be with you, kristen, thanks. Earlier we were talking about how many drinks they had to have to get through the debate. I revealed i had to have a lot of cookies. What was youre lickser there . I think a lot of americans are feeling the hangover this morning, this afternoon, hours later. Look, this was chaos, kristen. None of us have ever seen anything like it. I think probably the only people that were popping champagne was Vladimir Putin and his autocratic cohorts who are out there saying this is what democracy looks like. It was a disgrace. I think america was a punch line around the world today. I think for both candidates theyve got to do better the next time around or people are going to walk away. This was the opening bell for a lot of americans to watch and make a decision about this election. I think many of them threw up their hands and said enough already. I know. This is like my super bowl normally. I did find it difficult. Normally wed start with who is the winner, right . I think this time its clear who the loser is, the american public. Today the commission on president ial debates announced changes will be made for the next two debates. What kind of changes, carla, are they looking at . I think what theyre looking at is a mute button. Some people have suggested a pit that opens up and does away with the candidates altogether. I think the mute button, they have to have more control over this discussion. This chaotic discussion didnt do americans any good. I think even with a mute button, controlling President Trump could be a difficult task. Its very clear that he was his twitter feed live last night. Its one thing to see his pronouncements in capital letters on twitter, but he acted them out last night and it wasnt pretty. He didnt do himself a service. In many cases he lost moments where he could have made good points against joe biden. I think for both candidates its going to be in the service to control this debate better. I think Chris Wallace has said since that he had no idea how difficult it was going to be, and weve got to more to go. Theyve got to make improvements. Speaking of two more to go. Victoria has a question on facebook, will the town hall type debate be better. So it cant happen again . I wont say it cant happen again. I think both candidates will be likely to be more respectful of the people in the audience asks questions. I think the commentator, the moderator from cspan is well known, somebody who is very experienced, but it could be that the folks that are in the audience are going to be able to maintain control better. So we can all cross our fingers on that one. Sharon bushnell has a suggestion. She says i believe they should have the democratic voter ask the republican voter and a republican voter ask the democratic candidate questions to balance it out . What do you think about that . Thats not a bad idea. What happens a lot of times in these town hall events is people ask questions, theyre very long, very complicated. Its hard to hear right from the voters. That might be a way of getting around it. However they do it, theyve got to get right to the point and allow these candidates to answer the questioninrruption. That was the key last night. Interruption was an issue. But what about Fact Checking. That was president done last night. That hasnt been the thing for the moderator, but should it be . The technology is there. Some have suggested, thats right, live Fact Checking on the air. Its very hard for the moderator to be doing that and juggling those balls at once. But there is a way for cspan and many other outlets to be Fact Checking the candidates live in realtime. A lot of media do that. But to do it on screen would be maybe a really good check on the candidates. Thats a pretty good idea. Worth considering. So michelle says since mr. Trump wants to be a bully and cannot allow someone to respond, then the debate should end at that point. Ive seen others sug jers, could Chris Wallace have walked off the stage and ended. What do you think are the merits or the pros and cons to that suggestion . In this case, youre talking about a candidate who is he came into it kind of angry. Look, hes been cornered in the polls and it showed there on the stage. Im not sure many people would have been able to corral that candidate last night, but, yes, a lot of people felt in the very beginning, wallace should have laid it down and said were not going to accept interruptions like this. This is not the way it operates. He waited until too far in the debate. I think trump in his style, a lot of his followers probably felt he came off a strong guy, somebody who knows his stuff, somebody who knows where hes at and he did. But in that respect, he stepped on his own lines, stepped on his own arguments so many times. Even his supporters and many republicans today are saying that performance was way too hot and he needs to think about it next time. Otherwise he may have done himself really irreparable damage with the few und voters that are out there still. The few. Few is key. Most people have their minds made up. Youre right. Theres still some in those key counties, in those key swing states. So well see. I was about to ask you what did you think each candidate managed to do well. You did mention President Trump appearing strong especially to his supporters. What about Vice President biden . I think he needed to look in and not go confused and weak. In that regard, did he succeed . Biden was very steady. He met the very low expectations the trump camp set for him. They set the stage that he was so cogni impaired that any performance would have been good. Look, he looked at the audience, he spoke to americans out in the audience many times, and i think he was very, very effective there. I think trump had moments where he was able to get his point across, in some cases stepped on those lines. Ill gave you one example. In california he mentioned getting along with governor newsom, liking electric cars. He said what they did in california was crazy. Its a very strong point for him to say gavin newsom has out laued or is going to phase out gas powered cars and trucks. Look at those democrats, theyre going to take away your guns and your trucks and cars. He didnt go there. He didnt explain what he meant by crazy out in california. I think that was another lost opportunity. Le needs to assess those lines, those points and slow it down a lot. But for President Trump, thats been part of his success, that offthecuff intimate style with the audience, letting it fly, has made him very popular with his grassroots. That has been his strong point to date. But now i think that may have been a turning point. Interesting. It can be a strength and it can be a weakness. Now i get to the question i usually start with and that is who won . Who do the polls suggest . I think theres no question for President Trump this was not a good night. Undecided voters, women, some of the blue collar voters he needed to win over in swing states, a pollster came away saying many of those vetters say theyre not going to vote at all. Thats the first time hes ever seen that. Last night we saw last night joe bidens Campaign Raising a record amount of money in the hour following the debate and last night, 10 million. I think those two sort of measures show that President Trump had a very bad night. Hes going to have to do better in the next two debates because right now going into the final month, his polls are not looking good at all in many of these key swing states and some of these republicans are getting very, very worried how this will turn out for them. All right. Randy, one of our dear frequent viewers wants to know any chance that the next debates will be canceled . I think we heard mr. Biden today say uhhuh. I dont think that would be a service to the American People and certainly not a good move for joe biden. These candidates need to be in front of the voters and need to have a civil discussion and a detailed discussion of where they differ on policy. They missed that last night. They missed that opportunity. They need to come back. They owe that to the american voters. We seriously have 15 i have to ask you. Next week is the vp debate between senator Kamala Harris and Vice President pence. The heat is on Kamala Harris to get the job dan there. I think youre going to see a very different debate. These are two very strong deb e debaters. Pence has a chance to make up some ground for President Trump next week and Kamala Harris has got to bring it home for joe biden. Its going to be a good one. Perhaps the American People will learn more from that debate. Carla marinucci, politico reporter, thank you so much. Take care. Talk to you soon.
