And you are looking at the shady fire believed to be a spot fire from the glass fire which started in napa county early yesterday morning. Thousands have been forced to evacuate and there is a list scrolling at the bottom of your screen. The cause of the glass fire is still not known right now. And were waiting for an official update on the exact size of the fires. We already know several structures have burned including the homes that you are watching right now. This is from the skyhawk subdivision area east of santa rosa on highway 12. And you can see firefighters working their way trying to do what they can. So far no word on any injuries. Overnight, the shady fire crept toward santa rosa and jumped highway 12 and that is the road that countless evacuees are using to escape. Here is a map of the Evacuation Orders. Sections in orange need to leave now. Yellow means be packed and ready to go. Liz kreutz is live on Channel Drive in east santa rosa with the latest there. Reporter things are changing fast here in east santa rosa. Were on channel road and you can see behind us there is this property and this home here that is burning. And it is making a huge plume of smoke that is raining embers on us and it seems to be moving closer and closer. I dont think that it has made its way to the property next to it yet, but honestly any moment it could. It is moving fast. This palm tree, there were just a few flames when we arrived and now it is completely engulfed in flames. This beautiful palm tree destroyed. And it is blowing the embers oh, just got some embers raining down on us. So this is a fast moving sporadic fire. In rhyme or reason to where the embers are landing and starting the spot fires. And if you saw us earlier, you would know that we saw a lot of fire trucks, First Responders working in other areas near here. Right now it is quite and so it is a sign that there are few resources. There is no one here. Again, some of these properties are spared, but that again could change. 17,000 people here in east santa rosa are under an Evacuation Order in this area, they started late last night. The most recent i do want to mention there are some Evacuation Centers. And were told that the focus for firefighters is to make sure that the shady fire does not reach the anondale state and were just south of highway 12 and were told that multiple homes have burned in the skyhawk community. Property has burned in oakmont, but so far homes have largely remained unscathed. Liz kreutz, abc 7 news. Well take any good news that we can. That is terrible to watch. And by later today if you are not noticing some of that wildfire ash raining down in atmosphere, you will because right now it is being held up with the upper level winds very strong. About 4,000 feet. But as the winds dial back, then well begin to see the smoke and ash move down to the surface. And winds yes, 43 miles an hour. And were looking at lighter winds compared to yesterday. By 9 00, it will be less. It is warn out them out there. 80s in napa. Mist and drizzle at half moon bay. Unfortuna unfortunately, the fog will stay there and were 13 to 19 degrees warmer this morning. Those areas are highlighted in purple. For those trying to get out of calistoga, you have to head north. They say avoid Petrified Forest road and also silverado trail. That whole stretch is closed there. And highway 29 closed as well between st. Helena and napa, and if you can head south, silverado trail looks to be open south of st. Helena, but it is closed between calistoga and st. Helena. And of course avoid Petrified Forest road. And of course highway 12 and 128. The blue areas are people that need to leave asap and the ye yellow areas are people who need to be ready to go. And of course there are a number of wineries located around there. And Amy Hollyfield is in st. Helena. Reporter were surrounded on all sides by fire. Were on highway 29. Look up in the hills, this is on the west side of highway 29. We are in st. Helena at deer park road. There is fire behind me and also in front of me. And right here at deer park road, there is a lot of activity withdraw they have shut down this area. These cars are all trying to get into calistoga, and they are being told no, they have been stopped here. Told they cant go any further. And calistoga parts of it under mandatory evacuation south of ly lincoln, and others have a warning to be ready to go. But the way the fire is still so active and so strong, it seems in everyones best interests to get the car packed and get out of here. Weve seen it go uphill, downhills. And now were watching as people are trying to figure out how to navigate the area. The chp is also stationed here. And i asked what is up with this area, why all this activity and they say it is their quick make shift command post. They were closer, but the fire has pushed them to this intersection here. So the fire even has Emergency Responders on the move and pushed in Different Directions as they try to navigate what to do here. And cal fire have had to cancel their briefing because they are too busy reacting and trying to get the evacuations completed. So that is their focus right now. And you heard one chp officer speeding toward calistoga. So much activity going on right now. More information will trickle out once they feel better about this emergency situation being calmed down a bit. And speaking of calms, the winds are not. They are picking up and were experiencing more wind than we were just within the last hour. And now they are giving an announcement to everyone on the loud speak her to turn around. So all these frustrated people trying to get into calistoga being told they wont be allowed in, they must turn around. You see the uturns starting to try to happen. Again, this is on deer park road and highway 129. One guy just got through. He has a horse trailer. So a lot of activity here as people try to navigate how to get people to safety and how to protect this area. Age any ho Amy Hollyfield, abc 7 news. And the shady fire is actively burning through several east santa rosa sub be divisi divisions. Im sure that he will also be mentioning what is happening in the north bay with these fires. That is happening at noon and well be streaming it live for you. Right now lets check in again with lisa. And im looking at the temperature here, were getting very clo to 8 close to 80 in s francisco. And remember the days of shutting the windows . That probably is going to happen given because with all these fires and that smoke suspended in the upper levels of the atmosphere, the winds will weaken and that will allow for the ash to rain down and the air quality to get poor. Even without the fires today, with the wind shift, we would see smoke from the fires to the south of us. Will the fog help us out . It will a little bit in the short term. It will be 10 degrees cooler at the big sur coast. Santa cruz will be cooler. You will feel the seabreeze later on. But not in time to bring down the temperatures. There is a red flag warning and a heat advisory. Winds anywhere from 20 to over 40mileperhour wind gusts above 1,000 feet. And from mount saint helena, mt. Hood, the wind is continuing to dry the atmosphere and the warm temperatures. At the coast, 50s. 76 in daly city. You can get a 50 degree temperature and up the road have it be much, much warmer due to the offshore wind. 80 in san rafael, 82 in napa. So yes, the weather is not in our favor today with 80s in the hills here, winds up to 15 miles an hour for the glass fire. And at the surface, were looking at 15mileanhour winds. So mainly this is above in the upper elevations. And as we go through 7 00, 9 00, the winds will slightly begin to weaken and then the lighter offshore winds will allow the smo smoke. And there is peer air quauoo po. And though well get to the triple digits today, we will feel a little bit of relief into tuesday and wednesday. I say good morning, but sadly there is not a whole lot good to report. So many homes are threatened this morning. And we want to really make sure that everyone is safe, we know that there are traffic jams, we saw Amy Hollyfield and it is a chaotic situation. And lisa argen has been telling us that the forecast is not in our favor either. No, and historically you all know that september is usually the hottest time of year here in the bay area. So this weather as bad as it is is not unusual and well continue to see some very gusty northeast winds. We have the glass fire, the shadeddthe shady fire, the boyson fire. And winds are at 14 miles per hour. Look at the numbers, 70s, 80s and en50s with the fog at the coast. Today will be the hottest day out of the next seven. Well see a little relief in the form of a seabreeze later on today. Good news is winds will continue to dial back but then well have the poor air quality across the bay. And fires are forcing evacuations in napa and snoeono counties. The shady fire is a spot fire from the glass fire which started in napa county. We want to give you a look at this map. The class fire broke out early yesterday morning and cal fire says that it is new at 11,000 acres. And that fire started less than 24 hours ago. Mandatory evacuations are under way for people in cal police toe s calisto calistoga. And two other fires popped up east of santa rosa. And thousands have been forced to evacuate as weve been mentioning all morning. We have a list of the areas scrolling at the bottom of your screen. Yellow means be packed and ready to go. And liz kreutz is live in sand ro santa rosa. And i understand you had to move. Where are you now . Reporter things were getting chaotic, but we came back because as we were leaving, we saw several crews coming this way. I just showed you that the fire crews, they are now working on this fire. Were on channel road. Shows you how the crews are responding to the fires that are popping up so fast, it is almost impossible to get maed of ahead of them. They are trying to prevent the fire from spreading even more. This is what we were looking at that palm tree earlier, essentially there is nothing left of it anymore. You can see before it was ranging embers that they spread all throughout the neighboring property. So far we havent seen any other homes here on channel road go up in flames. It is just this one. Out of respect for they said, wont go more on to their property. But these spot fires in the past few minutes, look, you are seeing a spot fire here and now it is getting bigger. There is a lot of brush here. The pines have been burning. And there is so much underbrush so just ripe to grow and spread. And the challenge is dealing with the wind that is spreading the flames so erratically. Power pole is on fire as well. The crews are just trying to make sure that the fire does not reach an nondale state park. They are doing the best that they can. There are multiple homes in the skyhawk neighborhood unfortunately that are oh, look, see how big it has gotten just as weve been talking. It is just growing sporadically. Oakmont community, properties have been burned, but weve been told homes are unscathed. We hope it stays that way. There are Evacuation Centers set up. So if you have not gotten out, please do so. This is a fast moving fire and some of the winds seem to have died down a little bit the past 30 minutes. So cross your fingers it stays that way. Liz kreutz, abc 7 news. Reporter and i want to show you behind me, were looking down deer park road from highway 29. And it is burning up there in the hills and then if you look down along deer park road, you see a spot fire. So whether you look up or if you look in the flat lands, you see fire. And i want to show you the people trying to toward calistoga but the road is blocked. Chp is telling people they cant go through here. Weve talked to a few people asking why do you want to go towards calistoga. And the reasons vary. One man said he needed to try to get his moms purse. Another man told us go ahead and pan up, henry, just to show them that there truly is fire on all sides of us. There is in front of me and burning on the other side of highway 29. So it truly is all around. And another man told us he specht the day trying spent the day trying to evacuate his elderly father and now he is being told that his calistoga home needs to be evacuated. He wasnt able to get any of his belongs because he was busy with his father. And so this is what the chp is listening to and people try to beg and plead their way in, just giving their hardship stories. One man told us he is very done with these fires. He says five years in a row, this is exhausting and he is ready to leave california. He is over it. We know that the fire is unto 1 1,0 11,000 acres and right now their focus is to get people to safety. There are mandatory evacuations. So may as well pack up and get out of here. This is the chateau boswell winery. The fire is running right up on the hillside of silver rado tra there. And here is the frank family vineyard. Again, another heartbreaking image, so many peoples livelihoods depend of course on the wine industry. And it was already going to be a tough year given the smoke that has decimated so much of the crop. And the entire town of cal police toe gha is under an advisory evacuation, but there are parts under mandatory evacuation. So please keep updated. And here is mount tam, it will be day after day again unfortunately with the air quality not being good. Right now the smoke most of it is being held in the upper levels of the atmosphere due to the wind. And you can see that it is filtering down. 66 in santa rosa, 79 with gusty surface winds at the delta. Where the fires are, you upper 70s, north winds up to 15 miles per hour, but that certainly doesnt tell the whole story. Look at mount st. Helena, 37mileperhour wind gusts. Winds will begin to dial back, but they will still be out of the northeast and air quality is bad. Temperatures climb quickly today. Triple digit heat. I already closed my windows because i could smell the smoke. And there are 20 minute delays on b. A. R. T. Between sfo and antioch due to an equipment problem. And metering lights are on. And major closures in the north bay due to the evacuations and fires. Highway 29 closed the entire stretch. And 128 is closed between st. Helena and calistoga. And highway 12 is also closed east of santa rosa in the kenwood area. And you can see the closures on the map. You can head to highway 128 heading out east and silverado trail along this stretch is open. But silverado trail is closed between calistoga and st. Helena. So you will need to avoid Petrified Forest road and just head north on highway 29 or 128. And of course a lot of closures as well in and the veterans that never quit on their team. And weve seen i would say multiple structures as we were just driving through here burning. What do we know about the communities . Fortunately a lot did heed to the warnings. There was a lot of effort and plans that have gone into unfortunately this type of event. Weve learned a lot here in sonoma and santa rosa following the 2017 firestorm. That following the kincaid of 19 and then the walbridge and myers. So coordination led to significant evacuations and resources being dumped into these neighborhoods. So were encouraging residents to be prepared. Have your plans in place, be ready to go. And if you do receive the order, please adhere to it. We talked to a woman who lives in st. Helena.
