The District AttorneyNancy Omalley says that officer fletchers use of force was not warranted. At the time of the shooting, it was not reasonable to conclude mr. Steven taylor posed an imminent threat of death or Great Bodily Injury to either officer fletcher or to anyone else in the store. Reporter at the time of the shooting, taylor had a baseball bat, officer fletchers Attorney Says his client feared for his life and defended himself. The law doesnt require even in todays age the officer to have their brains bashed with a lethal treatmeinstrument. Reporter and officersased taylor but it didnt work. Officer fletcher fired a shot that proved to be deadly. Omalley charged fletcher with voluntary manslaughter. Tle fletcher seen here in 2013 had been with the department more than 15 years. Family members say taylor may have been having a mental episode, but believe he could have been talked down. Friends of the family say that while they would have liked murder charges, at least this is something. At the end of the day, were very happy with what it is. It looks like we have a crash between a big rig and two other vehicles, this is south bound 880 just before the 16th the avenue off ramp there. It does not look like injuries have been reported, and there have been some tow trucks called out to the scene.
