Reporter this is night three of oakland protesters demanding justice for jacob blake, an africanamerican man who was shot seven times in the back by Wisconsin Police officer, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and generating nationwide protests. Oakland Police Reporting one of their officers was injured as the crowd threw rocks and bottles and pointed lasers to their officers. Changes in policy need to be made with the Police Brutality against the africanamerican males in this community. So definitely were supportive of peaceful protesting. Reporter many are afraid of history repeating itself where smashed windows and fires were left behind. Shonda scott, with the oakland africanamerican chamber of commerce says Small Business owners are the ones picking up the broken glass and the bill. This is serious business. Recently, a black Clothing Store owner in tiburon said he felt he was being profiled by police while filling inventory at his store at 1 00 in the morning. There were a few counter protesters, holding up signs at a nearby sidewalk. In the south bay, san jose mayor sam liccardo is responding to vandalism at his home last night. It happened after a blm protest in the city. The mayor posted this image today of the spray painted messages, but they werent up for long. Neighbors helped scrub the walls and the driveway. And in a tweet today, liccardo said his neighbors represent the true spirit of the movement. He responded to the vandalism on camera last night. Protesters were otherwise peaceful. Hundreds marched from city hall through downtown toward san pedro square. Some even danced in the streets. At one point, they knelt or sat, blocking traffic at south main street and newell avenue. A city councilman tweeted the marchers honored george floyd with a moment of silence that lasted eight minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time an officer knelt on his neck resulting in his death. Firefighters are making considerable progress in sonoma and lake counties. While containment is now up to about 55 , some of the people who had to evacuate are returning home this weekend.
