Us. Im eric thomas. The scu complex is now the histthe czu complex and these fires have burned nearly here a wildfires burning in the state, many of them sparked by lightning. At least 965 structures have been destroyed, many of them are homes. Heres a quick look at where these fires are located. Te lnu complex is in the north bay primarily in napa and sonoma counties. The scu complex goes into santa clara, alameda and contra costa counties, and theres the czu in santa cruz and san mateo counties. The big concern for firefighters now, a red flag warning and the chance of more lightning tomorrow. Some communities arent taking any chances because of the weather the Alameda County sheriff today issued an evacuation warning for some unincorporated parts of the county. Where there are few exit routes. Abc 7 news meteorologist drew tuma is here now with more on the red flag conditions. Drew . We are tracking the threat of not only thunderstorms with lightning thunderstorm but gusty winds. Two things we desperately do not need right now. A red flag warning will go into effect for the entire bay area starting early tomorrow morning at 5 00 a. M. For that threat of lightning and gusty winds, which means new fires could start or current fires could spread. Right now on live doppler 7 it is a quiet picture with the active scan around the region, but well widen out, add on satellite and show you what we are tracking in the short term. This cluster of cloud cover right here. This is the remnants of what was hurricane genevieve and its moisture is moving into california over the next 24 to 36 hours. And that will be the instigating factor once again like last weekend to spark some storms. The good news, the early indications it looks like this event were tracking for tomorrow does not look nearly as extreme as last sundays. But we are still tracking the threat for thunderstorms. In the main time frame were looking at right now is tomorrow evening overnight into early monday morning. Storms with lightning again could spark new fires and we are tracking the threat of those thunderstorms creating isolated gusty winds which could spread current fires. Were going to go very much more into detail. Well go hour by hour on this time frame coming up in the full accuweather forecast in a few minutes, eric. Pg e says theyre not planning a Public Safety power shutoff due to the weather system tomorrow. In a tweet the agency said the weather system does not meet their threshold. The states Electricity Agency cal iso says they are not anticipating rotating outages but it doesnt hurt to prepare. Outages can still be caused by the weather. Today the lnu lightning complex prompted some new evacuations. Heres a look at where things stand currently. The fire has burned more than 325,000 acres and is 15 contained. Reporter eric, with the potential of thunderstorms cal fire issued new evacuation orders and warnings that stretch in areas west of highway 101 south of cloverdale to windsor. Now, they say that the large geographical area shows just how big the potential is. As sprinklers on the roof of both my house and my barn. Reporter healdsburg resident elliott doss built his home off West Dry Creek road. Some of thinks neighbors above him on the ridge have already lost their homes. Its really hard. Its really hard to have to talk with them and console them and wish them the best and know that youre at any moment kind of in the same situation. Reporter fire engines including the Santa Rosa Fire Department were on standby for any movement from the walbridge fire. The main concern, wind shift and more lightning. And so to go that long until just a week ago well now have the potential for another one to stack on top of this one. Heres a look at the numbers. The fires have burned 67,000 acres. It is 5 contained. San mateo and santa cruz counties are both impacted. Today we spoke to two of residents. The uncertainty and fear of what the flames have destroyed have this Family Holding on to their faith. I hope the whole town, its i hope they can stop it. Theres a lot of friends of ours who lived up here for 50 years, 70 years. You know, mothers and sons living right next to each other. I just spoke to firefighters who confirmed the fires about two miles from where were standing. We cannot see it. But the ashes that are falling right now, we know that its close. In ben lomond, luz pena, abc 7 news. The other massive fire burning is the scu lightning complex. That fire exploded to 339,000 acres growing 48,000 more acres just today. That now makes its second largest fire in california history. The fire remains 10 contained and is affecting five different counties, all experiencing mandatory evacuation orders. 20,000 structures are threatened. Five have been destroyed. Cal fire tweeted out this photo last night showing two crew members folding and protecting an American Flag on the canyon zone of the fire. Governor newsom toured the scu lightning complex fire today. He met with several First Responders and got to survey some of the damage both from the sky and on the ground. Cal fire officials today said theyre still making do with limited resources but some help is on the way. Some out of state crews have arrived and National Guard troops are just days away from being able to help. We are working through the training process. Its a sevenday process to bring on National Guard hand crews. Theyre being mobilized right now in training and theyll be available here in the next few days. Sad news tonight for two San Francisco firefighters. They lost their homes in the wildfires according to this tweet from their union. Firefighters from San Francisco are also working far from home, providing mutual aid to crews on the front lines across Northern California. President trump approved californias request for declaring a major disaster in ten counties earlier today. This means the federal government will provide money to assist state, tribal, and local governments responding to the crisis. Residents of affected counties can qualify for housing and unemployment assistance. They can apply for lowinterest loans as well to cover uninsured property losses. And people can loss receive crisis counseling while they deal with hardships caused by the fires. A Santa Cruz County homeowner is warning about looters who are capitalizing on the evacuations. He shared this video of his home in felton being burglarized on friday. Blink camera systems sent this to his phone when motion was detected at the the doosh. The looters tried to get away by driving through a nearby property but crashed through a fence and got stuck in a ditch. Five people were arrested. Congressman Jared Huffman says the drone is able to pinpoint exactly where lightning strikes so firefighters can be notified. The drone is specially equipped with scanning technology that can see through poor air quality. Yeah, and eric, what we know right now is this next round of thunderstorms were tracking is nowhere near as severe as what we experienced last weekend with the thousands of lightning strikes. But lightning is still in the forecast next 24 to 48 hours, something we done need right now. The air quality forecast over the next two days, again, in the afternoon that is when air quality tends to be worse. Well find it fluctuating between poor and unhealthy throughout the entire bay area. So we do have a spare the air alert tomorrow and another one on monday for that unhealthy air quality. So take it easy if you are outdoors because that smoke is still thick in our atmosphere at times. Right now numbers, its 59 in the city but still warm inland. 77 in brentwood. 69 in san jose. About 59 in santa rosa and 74 that current temperature in vallejo. Overnight tonight we have a really compressed marine layer right now, fog pretty much confined to the immediate coastline and thats about it. Well have haze in our atmosphere and numbers mainly falling into the mid 50s to mid 60s over the next 12 hours. Heres the big picture what we are tracking. Live doppler 7 along with satellite we have High Pressure right over the four corners. That is supplying the heat, especially in the inland east bay in the afternoons. And then were tracking moisture from what was hurricane genevieve a few days ago. It is now really fallen apart but it still has a lot of moisture associated with it. And some of that moisture is going to get funneled again into california thanks to that area of High Pressure over the four corners. Lets go hour by hour, show you whats in store as we head into our sunday. Well start off tomorrow morning, the clock at 8 00 a. M. , and its a really quiet start to our day. We do expect some Coastal Cloud cover, some haze in our sky. As we go throughout the afternoon well likely start to see some showers if not storms fire up close to the monterey coast, even in the sierra as well, and were going to watch this initial line of showers very closely because it looks like as we approach sunset between 7 00 and 8 00 p. M. Tomorrow evening on our sunday that is our first chance of seeing some showers and potential storms develop around the bay area. And then well watch that line advance to the north. Early monday morning by 2 30 in the morning there you can see especially in the north bay and points to the north that line of showers is still with us. There is the threat that those storms could produce more lghtning and even some locally gusty winds as well. Well get more information overnight tonight. Me importantly and dad lost everything. Thats devastating. And i dont think you think things are going to happen to you like that until it actually does. With this tragedy coming up and almost burning my familys home and actually taking some of my best friends families homes and burning them to the ground were just trying to do what we can by stepping up and making a difference for all the families that are affected by this fire. A woman who happened to be an animal rescuer stumbled upon an empty beer box in a walmart in patterson on monday. She noticed the box was taped shut on all sides and making noise. Containment has grown from 15 to 17 . More than 1,100 firefighters are out at the czu complex. That fire has burned 67,000 acres and is 5 contained. And that will be the instigating factor for the potential for storms. The concern we have, the time frame were really looking at is tomorrow evening overnight into monday morning. For storms to contain some lightning that could spark new fires, if you do see lightning or hear thunder you do want to move indoors. And those storms could also contain some isolated gusty winds which could spread existing fires we already have. Were going to take a much closer look at the tiline ic,n fminutes. The walbridge fire was on the move. I dont know. This is bad. So id better get the horse trailer hooked up. Ulotogra. Reporter susan and Richard Wagner were packing up all the belongings from their home that could fit in their cars. Whatever happens here in the future, wherever we end up, we can look around our residence and itll look almost like home. Reporter but others are choosing to stay. Im going to send my wife and kids out. Get them out of here. Reporter youre going stay . Yeah, im staying. Till the bitter end. Reporter a shift in winds to the northeast near the fire prompted the new evacuation orders. Which included everything west of the windsor city limits. The fires path of destruction was found on Wallace Creek road outside healdsburg, where several homes were reduced to rubble. Not far away fire crews took down this charred redwood tree, in danger of falling. The forecast for fighting the fire isnt good. More lightning storms are possible. Were not sure what its going to look like. Ill start with that. If we do get another lightning e gng lightning area with fire isnt good news for Ann Craighead whos choosing to stay at her home. Dont need it. But you cant control mother nature. Reporter there is some good news. Cal fire says firefighters are getting more resources to fight this fire in the air and on the ground. And Sonoma County officials are asking folks in the area to conserve water this weekend to make sure there is enough water available for firefighting efforts. In healdsburg Cornell Barnard, abc 7 news. Hundreds of firefighters are preparing for a difficult day ahead trying to contain the czu lightning complex fire. Abc 7 News Reporter stephanie sierra was in Santa Cruz County with a look at some of the destruction so far. Reporter its not an easy drive. Winding through big basin way in the middle of boulder creek. We found flames lining the roads, melted signs, burntdown homes, and smoke so thick it burns your eyes. Finding it tougher to see, we relied on what we heard. Walking through the rubble to meet people like mark hendricks. We saved a lodge and about 20 cabins below. Now were working on another lodge here and another 13 cabins and a bunch of houses. One house just burnt down this morning. Reporter hes trying to save whats left of the sequioa Retreat Center in ben lomond. We were pretty much on our a while. Couldnt get cal fire up here. So ben lomond has been coming up quite often. Reporter alone along the fire line, not giving up hope. Like robert hiltono who lives down the road. I told him im going down with the ship. Im staying. And they actually said i dont know what id do if i was in your situation. Reporter a tough question to answer. But john teffry didnt have a choice. I just took off and it was i proceeded to sit there and watch everything burn. Reporter packing up. This is everything in my home crammed into every little hole in the trailer. Reporter and trying not to look back. Thats all buck homes going to make it . I hope so. I can only leave it up to god, you know. But hopefully everythings going to be all right. People continue to have really struggle struggling in terms of their ptsd from previous disasters. God knows weve had enough of them. An expert in napa county says hes seeing a combination of anxiety, depression, and trauma in his patients, but there are ways to cope. Really talking to friends, families. Neighbors. Any way you can.
