You know, ill say i actually do think it is plausible. There are safe ways to fast track drug evaluation, development. We do it all the time. Its not by cutting out the safety measures, its by cutting out the bureaucracy, moving things to the front of the line, and thats certainly warranted for something of this level of importance. Weve got a couple of vaccines in stage 3 trials, which look very promising, which should have data by the end of the year. If its good, i think spring is plausible. Of course, once we have a vaccine, then we have to look at how we distribute it, which is going to be a big task. I think the key there is going to be National Coordination on a level thats a bit more effective than weve seen so far with testing. Dr. Ribiera, the fda has granted emergency authorization for a coronavirus test that gives results in 12 minutes. Could perhaps Something Like that help the u. S. Testing issues . Well, so unfortunately thats an antigen test, which is a bit less thorough than the molecular tests we usually use in the hospital. So that means if its positive, wed say, oh, thats probably real. If its negative wed say, well, that test isnt very thorough, so we dont know if we can trust the negative. Thats what the fda basically said about this particular test in their approval letter, saying if its negative, it doesnt necessarily indicate lack of infection. Id say 12 hours is a great turnaround time, but because of the nature of the test, i dont know that we can use it as a screening tool. Scientists in the u. K. Have studied singing and the droplets produced by singing. They say singing is no riskier than talking when it comes to spreading the virus. I want to get your thoughts on that as well. I dont think this should be too surprising. Singing is just talking, except longer, then you move the pitch around. Thats basically what they found in this study, that talking and singing at different at the same levels of volume, pretty much equivalent in terms of the probability of spreading the virus. I think this is good news for lovers of music. Its still probably not safe to be in a choir where youre surrounded by people, but listening to a live performer, perhaps outside at a safe distance, i think its a relatively lowrisk activity, and this study helps reinforce that. We were worried that he would not appear as strong or as consistent as we needed him to be. I think the fact that he brought everybody into the room, the fact that he directly addressed racism in his speech and didnt avoid it, were really good indicators that hes actually going to take these things on. But i would agree that the specifics were missing, particularly around criminal justice reform. So the work the progressives have got to do now to speak to the part of our party that we need to show up, young black voters, young black male voters, we have to do that work to fill the gap. Next week is about republicans and what donald trump stands for. Hes got to do a couple of very important things next week. He has to address the covid crisis head on.
