So this is video of the hennessey fire from overnight. It broke out yesterday morning. It exploded in size in the afternoon. Its burning to the east of san helena and rutherford. Grown to 2,400 acres with zero containment. Evacuation orders are in effect in the area. Some people are choosing to stay. Abc7 News Reporter Amy Hollyfield is live this morning. Amy . Goodern morning were in st helena and authorities behind me have sage canyon road blocked off. This is the area that is being impacted. They have evacuated about 205 homes in this area. We do have new video in from overnight. We want to get to right away. It shows that this fire is still raging. Sometimes you will see a fire lie down overnight and not this one. It is still going strong. The hennessey fire is burning east of st. Helena in central napa county. Firefighters are staging at Hennessey Ridge road here in the area. It started yesterday morning, but really took off in the afternoon. As officials ordered evacuations, though, some residents said they wanted to go ahead and stay behind to try and protect their property. We are going to stay here as long as we can. If it gets unsafe, we will leave. Let the sprinklers run and hope for the best. As of last night rsh fire Officials Say it burned 2,400 acres but we do expect to get an update on the acreage at 7 00 this morning. So, within the hour, they also will be giving us an update on the firefight. The weatherorning a to be a bit helpful giving them a hand. It is not windy this morning. We can definitely see that, amy. Thank you. Another wildfire in napa county and this is new video of the gamble fire overnight. This one started yesterday afternoon. So far it burned at least 600 acres west of brooks near berryessa knoxville road. At last check, no evacuation orders have been issued there. A cluster of fires in Contra Costa County make up the fire. Evacuationered oers a ereorders and no containment. We all need to get prepared for rotating Power Outages this afternoon. A flex alert is in effect from 3 00 to 10 00 today and youre being asked to help conserve that means tng like 78 so that degrees and unplugging things youre not using and keeping your refrigerator closed as much as possible. Some people in san jose have been dealing with Power Outages for days. Pg e says some of the outages not due to rolling blackouts but putting the blame on the weekend weather. The worst part is the frustration of not getting any warning and not getting any answers. We had the same message online from pg e since friday. Now, among the issues from the heat, blown transformers adding to the frustration the areas that suffered these outages are not exempt from the rolling outagesld c again t and tomorrow. San jose mayor sam liccardo pushing back after pg e said these shutoffs have nothing to do with equipment. The mayor said, quote, while certainly the heat is a contributing factor, the fundamental reason is the inadequate infrastructure that pg e has failed to maintain and replace over many years. Thats our hot spot northbound 680 because of the Road Construction in the area. All picked up at 6 00 a. M. Youre going to experience residual delays there. The high clouds and you can see them just slowly marching to the east as the entire line marches to the northeast. So, low pressure is going to nudge this hot high to the east tomorrow thursday. Well lose a little bit of the heat. But not a lot. 92 in sunnyvale and 96 in san jose and 100 in morgan hill and gilroy. Millbrae and san mateo and 72 to 74 along the peninsula coast. 80 to 85 for Downtown South San Francisco and sausalito. Mid 70s north bay coast and then look at all those upper 90s to near 100 in your valley. Along the east bay shore, low 80s around richmond and then mid 80s to 90 else where. As you head inland, we have 101 in san ramon to brentwood at 107. Notice the 55 in half moon bay. The low 60s around san rafael, santa rosa and oakland and San Francisco. Thats where your best sleeping weather is. The rest of us in the mid 60s and a whole lot of 70s inland and even 80s in our mountains. You can see even though we lose some heat, warmer than average. Well get rid of the 100s for one day thursday. Come back friday and then gets even hotter sunday and then you throw in hotter temperatures and that humidity monday. But look at the excessive heat warning expanded to all neighborhoods except San Francisco and the coast. So, congratulations. Your 70s and 80s keep you out of the excessive heat warning where the rest of us in the 90s and 100s. A touch of humidity out there this morning. You can see the 60s in the south bay and also the east bay and thats also where our temperatures are in the 70s slightly less humid air and 50s along the coast and low to mid 60s along places like novato and San Francisco and oakland. Little bit better sleeping weather. Look at this, 80 in San Francisco today and 80s and 90s around the bay and 90s and 100s inland. I do have a little bit of a pull back in the heat before it surges back this weekend. Ill have that coming up. More on the heat and how it pertains to you. Heres kumasi. Thank you, mike. With all that heat an alert will be in effect this afternoon. From 3 00 p. M. To 10 00 p. M. The grid operators are pleading for us to lower our energy us e usage. I know that its going to be highly disruptive to people and i truly, truly wish that there were other options. In our case, supply and demand always have to be equal. When theres more demand than supply, then you can eventually crash the system if you dont take the steps, which is what our operators are doing. So those steps include setting your ac to 78 degrees and turning off the lights that you do not need and not using major appliances. A rotating power outage never happened here yesterday because people were conserving power but still a lot of outages for a number of other reasons. The california independent, excuse me, independent system operator still has those flex alerts in place for today, tomorrow. Asking folks to conserve energy so we dont have to deal with any of the rolling Power Outages. That not being the he in it butther associated power out today. This block was without power for several hours. Started at 6 00 p. M. Last night. By the time we got out here around 4 00 a. M. , it appears the lights were back on and intermittent outages across the bay. We want to tell you about this morning. The rolling Power Outages were called out last night shortly after 8 00 p. M. Because the Energy Supply would meet the demand of last night. Were learning two big reasons there. The temperature stayed cooler and people did conserve energy. Governor newsom taking some of the blame for those outages during his monday news conference. Let me just make this crystal clear. We fail to predict and plan these shortages. Thats simply unacceptable. The governor did sign an emergency proclamation monday allowing Energy Reserves to be used. But the flex alert is still in effect for today and wednesday from 3 00 to 10 00 p. M. It is possible we could see some of those rotating Power Outages later this evening. In san jose, we just checked moments ago, still 69 active Power Outages right now affecting some 2,400 customers. That is way down from earlier this morning. Were now about 3,200 customers throughout the san jose area being affected by those Power Outages. Of course, you still have to feel for the people who do not have power right now making things like Distance Learning and working from home difficult hoping the power gets back on so those homes get cooled down before the temperatures spike back up again later today. Were expecting an update in about a half hour on this fire and the fire fight. We do have some new video to show you this morning of the fire from overnight. This is the hennessey fire. It is burning east of st. Helena. It was still very active overnight and this is why officials who evacuated about 205 homes in the area. It started yesterday morning, but it really got going in the afternoon. And as of yesterday, it did burn 2,500 acres. Some residents ignored the evacuation orders and said they wanted to stay behind to try to protect their property. Little winery, but we have a big family and there are about half a dozen of my cousins around right now and were at the ready if the fire gets a little bit closer. Have the hoses out and ready to make a stand. This possibly started because of lightning strikes. Witnesses saw lightning in the area yesterday morning and the fire started soon after that. No injuries have been reported on this fire. It is calm this morning, there is no wind. Hopefully that is giving firefighters a little help this morning. We are expecting to hear an update on that fire fight in less than half an hour at 7 00 this morning. Live in st. Helena this morning. In the east bay four fires burning near alameda and santa clara county. Air drops help beat back the flames yesterday afternoon. Nearly 1,800 acres have burned with 0 containment. Mandatory evacuations in the kilkare canyon have been advised to a warning. For the first time in two weeks, we are seeing movement in the States Coronavirus watch list. Santa cruz county is now off of the list but added on to it five other counties including mendocino. Those counties on the watch list have to roll back reopenings and they wont be able to reopen until they are off that list for 14 days. California still has the most coronavirus cases in the country with more than 629,000. We have a running tally of the list. The toll plaza is busy, but once you make it through the metering lights that came on at 6 02 a clear ride into San Francisco and well check in with meteorologist mike nicco who has a warm or should i say hot, its not even warm, its hot, mike. Forecast. It really is. Some of us are a little safer than others, but definitely going to be a hot one today. I want to take a can tour redet quick and talk about the hennessey fire. The winds did drop down thankfully four to six Miles Per Hour blowing from north to south. So, there may be a little smoke leaking down into napa valley. Look at the temperatures mid to upper 90s and then increasingly hot. 101 for monday and tuesday. And humidity in there also. Thats going to make it very dangerous for the firefighters. Winds today will blow from northwest to southeast. So that will push some smoke down napa, solano and possibly eastern contra costa and youll see all the other fires around also. So, we could have some issues with smoke in those areas. Were not technically under a spare the air day, but were under an advisory for that smoke. All right, lets talk about temperatures. Upper 60s to low 70s down in the south bay. Low 60s up in the north bay. Up 101 pretty comfortable there. 50s along the coast. Our best sleeping weather. If youre commuting, lets take a look at the weather side of it. Warm to hot from our inland neighborhoods. Dry on the roads.
