Here in santa cruz yet another blow for Business Owners either forced to use outdoor space if down completely. As you mentioned, it has already been a tough summer for many of these businesses that really rely on tourism thanks to a rising number of coronavirus cases in Santa Cruz County and nail salons, barbershops and shopping malls and places of worship and nonessential offices and gyms will have to shut down before those numbers go back down. We were preparing, some of them were preparing for the inevitable. Santa cruz power fitness. Theyre taking their work outdoors now. We were preparing for this. We had a hunch it was coming down the pipeliding an outdoor facility in our back parking lot. Santa cruz county at the state watch list this weekend with 130 coronavirus cases per 100,000 people that is over the threshold of 100 cases per 100,000 people. Now businesses here really just trying to survive at this point. The city says 40 businesses have already taken advantage of their Outdoor Expansion Program which means theyre allowed to operate outsi outside. Com and why the state is keeping an eye on the spread of coronavirus in those particular counties. Dr. Anthony fauci is concerned about the rising number of covid19 cases as states remain open. Jobina fortson is at the live desk with what the expert said on gma just a few moments ago. Dr. Anthony fauci doubled down on his plea for people to wear masks in public. Speaking on gma this morning he is particularly concerned about the rising number of cases in southern states, arizona and california. He hopes governors will heed National Guidelines now that theyve seen a spike in cases after reopening. If you look at the guidelines the way we put them out some time ago, that really is the national strategy. At this level, you wait until you have a period of time over 14 days where it comes down and then you graduate to the next phase. If you do well there, you go to the next phase. Oviously, as youve mentioned, some states are not doing that. We would hope that they all now rethink that what happens when you dont adhere to that. Thank you. Ifiess pfizer is making progress in its covid19 vaccine. Up to recruit 30,000 volunteers for the next round of trials. They will test their vaccine on people 18 to 85 years old from all around the world. Pfizer is wrapping up phase one of vaccine testing and the next round will be a combined phase two and phase three trial. President trump has been spotted wearing a mask in north carolina. He was there yesterday touring a vaccine lab. The facility requires all visitors to wear a mask. Yesterday the president praised moderna for entering phase three of vaccine trials. Happening today, three popup testing sites reopen again in santa clara county. All three sites will now give you a wrist band when you check in that will help you decrease the amount of time you have to stand in that line. Each wrist band is linked to the site when you can return to get tested. Here are the locations open this week. Oak Grove High School in san jose is open until saturday. The county office of education in san jose. A new Testing Program is launching in San Franciscos Mission district this week. Its an effort to curb coronavirus cases. Officials say a lot of infections in young people in that community. The Latino Task Force is using with ucsf, b. A. R. T. And the city to conduct the test. Were taking a very limited amount of tests to see how efficient or effective it is to target cumuommuters workers with low testing. You can take your test and be on your way in under five minutes. It testing will take place at the 24th Street Mission b. A. R. T. Plaza. It starts at 7 00 a. M. And that will be going on for the next three weeks. A new poll finds that latinos worry more than other californians about how the coronavirus is going to affect them. According to the Public Policy institute of california, 61 of latinos are more anxious that they or their family will be infected. That is compared to 28 of black and white people. And 37 of asian americans. Latinos make up nearly 39 of californias residents but they represent 55 of the States Coronavirus cases. A downtown san jose diner that has been around for more than 20 years unfortunately is now closed for good. According to our media partner peggy sues the closure was sudden. The retro rock n roll was doing take out and delivery but now a sign on the door says its closed permanently and the memorabilia inside is all going up for sale. More details are expected on the restaurants website. The Science Center in oakland will not be welcoming back visitors any time soon. They are holding off on their reopening date until june of 2021. You could pay up for things like not wearing your mask or not social distancing. This is all in an effort to protect everybodys health. Yeah, theyre talking about fining you 100 for the first time that youre caught without your mask. That fine can go up to 500 if you keep getting caught without it. And that is quite a bargain. A couple of other bay area counties charge even more. In napa they charge you about up to 5,000 for those who dont wear masks. In marin the penalty goes up to 10,000. Contra costa county is the third area that approves fines for those that dont wear mask. They require the age of 2 when theyre inside a business or waiting in line to get one. If you get a citation and dont agree with it, you would have ten days to write an appeal. The board of supervisors is expected to discuss this meeting, this issue at its meeting this morning. That means malls, gyms, churches and more have to close indoor operations. More than a third of the countys 970 covid cases were reported in just the past two weeks. You can see on this map the only county not being monitored right now remains San Mateo County. Could that change . Now, weve been saying this for many days that it could get on that list, but our media partner the mercury news reports that officials expect to land on the list any day now. In the last 14 days, San Mateo County reported 100,000 coronavirus cases. Health leaders say the leaders meet one of the benchmarks the state uses for putting counties on the list. We do have that interactive map at abc7news. Com that shows you what is and isnt open by county and also shows you why the state is keeping an eye on the spread of coronavirus in those areas. One region hit hard by the virus is getting financial help to control the outbreak. Governor newsom says the state will provide 52 million to the eight Central California counties you can see on this map. The positivity rates in these counties range from nearly 11 to almost 18 . Those rates are a lot higher than the positivity rates in the rest of the state. Strike teams made up of health, safety and emergency workers will be deployed to Central California this week. Republican senators have released an outline of their federal relief package. It could be months before people suffering financially during this pandemic actually get that help. Hanna made landfall in texas at a category 1 before weakening to a Tropical Storm and heading to mexico where it continues to bring rain and possible flooding the next 24 to 48 hours to the gulf side of mexico. Happening today, san jose mayor sam liccardo is expected to ask the city council to delay a ballot measure to give him more power. The reversal comes after polling shows that it would be difficult to pass. Liccardo wants to delay the measure until november of 2022 but move forward to shift the election to president ial years. The council will discuss that proposal at the meeting this morning. Abc committed to building a better bay area and a big focus on the economy and part of that is the housing shift were seeing right now. This week were devoting a lot of time to dig into housing and how the pandemic is impacting it. Falling rents during the pandemic are opening up new opportunities for some people, but, of course, not for everyone. Some rent prices are dropping. Now, the rental listing site said that rents in San Francisco fell nearly 12 from last year.
