It runs today from 9 00 until 3 00. Lisa, how is it looking out there . Pretty great, it looks like. We have the same pattern, rewind, repeat, with the low fog, the clouds, the stratus back by late morning. Its a welldefined layer about 1500 feet. When the fog comes back, well have a sea breeze along the coast. This is Tropical Storm hanna, winds at 50 miles an hour. Moving southwest at 9 00 and still unleashing a lot of power here with some flooding. It brought in a 5foot storm surge over the beaches and 250,000 people without power. This continues to wind down, but the flooding is still possible, the very heavy rain and isolated tornadoes. It is moving into the mountains of mexico and will continue the weekend and throughout the day. Certainly treacherous conditions in the next 12 hours. Douglas in the pacific here getting awfully close to the hawaiian islands. Its a category 1. Winds at 9 miles an hour, moving to the northnorthwest at 16. 16. We have warnings for the islands of mau i, oahu, seasonal temperatures are quite warm, so were not expecting a lot of weakening. Were expecting the winds to hold together, bringing a lashing here to the islands. So certainly some rough conditions with the surf, the flooding and the very heavy rain here. So this continues into monday, but as we get back home, boy, it is the same old pattern here. But a nice view from mt. Tam. You can see the low clouds here. The sun coming up at 6 28. Finally, remembering Regis Philbin, the tv legend whose death we learned about over the weekend. We take a look at his on and off the screen. Were exploring the race on social justice and how the pandemic is bringing inequities to light. Latinos make up 55 of bay area cases, but here in marin county, that disparity is even starker. Latinos account for more than 80 , being just 16 of the population. There is one area in particular that is bearing the brunt. In marin county, coronavirus cases are on the rise. San quentin prison has the largest outbreak. But take those numbers out of the equation and more than half of all the cases in the county are concentrated here. Nestled between some of the wealthiest zip codes in the country, the canal looks and feels a lot different than much of its neighboring communities. Its 80 latino and largely low income. You wont find the mansions here, rather, the densely crowded apartments of the countys essential workers. Kreselia calderon is an immigrant from guatemala who lives in an apartment with nine of her family members, including two children with Underlying Health conditions. She and her husband both recently had coronavirus. She has since tested negative, but when she was positive, she let her clients know and stopped working. Translator some reacted, i hope you are well, you and your family. And others asked, why . Didnt you take care of yourself . They wanted to know how and where we became infected, and we began to think we only go to work, to get gas and to buy our food. So it was very difficult to find out we were positive. Reporter kreselia still doesnt know exactly where she became infected, but she knows shes part of a broader story. Latinos count for 66 population, but theyre only 16 of the whole area. The virus is sort of a truth teller around inequities. Reporter if theres one person working to bridge these inequitie inequities, its omar karrera, the owner of a creation called the alliance. They have increasingly set up testing sites here, but long lines of people here today. Some people showed up six hours before this site opened, and there still arent enough tests. Im going to tell the people there arent enough tests today. There will be a lot of people disappointed, but i cannot control the number of tests we do each day. Reporter they are given between 80 and 120 tests per week, and its never enough. Translator i asked for help. Marin county called me. They told me, you tested positive. You need to be home. Get away from your family, get away from your children. I could not leave my children. And where was i going to go . I need food for my children or to pay the rent. Dont worry, he told me. Tomorrow were going to help you. What did they bring me . A potato, two squash, expired ground meat for hamburgers. What could i do with those things . Reporter the county says they are working on solutions, ramping up testing and offering income supplementation, food and housing to those who test positive. Important steps, but as omar has seen firsthand, not always perfect ones in practice. So this idea that i stay home safe and shelter myself means i dont care about whats happening around me . That is the wrong percepti, because we are so interconnected in latinos, when one person in a community is not safe, nobody is going to be safe. So the canal problems are marin county problems. Gray in novato at 57, clear in concord at 59. Fairfield has that southwest wind at 26 miles an hour and it is 56 degrees.
