Good night announcer today on tamron hall, whats happening inside our nations Nursing Homes . The elderly separated from family, and seemingly trapped in facilities. Tv personality bevy smith shares her familys tragic story, next on tamron hall. Welcome to tamron hall from my home. Over the last couple of weeks, weve talked a lot about issues and problems that, prepandemic, had been swept under the rug, but now the coronavirus has exposed the broken systems in our country, like education, prison reform, disparities in health care, hunger, and now Nursing Homes. I think back to when i was a teenager, going to visit someone who was injured and being cared for at a nursing home. I remember seeing what i thought were unlivable conditions. It had a profound effect on me. Now, when i read headlines about people dying in Nursing Homes, like many of you are seeing, i asked myself, how is this even possible . There are a lot of unknowns about covid19, but one thing is certain it preys on the vulnerable, our elderly. Nursing homes all over the country are prime targets for the virus. According to the wall street journal, more than 56,000 people, including residents and employees, have been infected. More than 10,000 have died. Nursing homes are still our number one concern. The nursing home is the optimum feeding ground for this virus. It can just spread like fire through dry grass. A seattle nursing home was ground zero in this nightmare that was about to grip Nursing Homes across the country. For days, families watched helplessly as one body after another was brought out. 37 deaths from the coronavirus
