An oakland dance instructor wanted to do something so she organize ad hip hop protest where adults, kids and seniors came together to dance for equality. Appealing art. It is crosscultural. It is unifying. When people dance together you just get a sense that they are leaving their problems behind. And they are happy. They are joyous. With all this inequality being brought to the forefront i really wanted to do something more. And it occurred to me that what i do is dance. So we organized a hip hop closs out here on the culdesac and had about 17 people all wearing signs, white silence equals white consent and black lives matter. And the Great Success and were going to do it more. I thought it was an amazing idea. Something weve never done. New way for me to protest and im all for it. It was amazing. Im excited to get the word out and hopefully we have more people join us and we make it bigger. When i first saw the slogan white silence equals white consent. It is like i woke up and wondered if my silence was part of the problem, why not protest and say black lives matter and make more awareness that, you know, we as white people we should not be quiet. Hip hop is something so popular we would use that as a means to be able to protest in that way. So i enrolled kenya, my hip hop teacher and we put this together. And some neighbors and friendsi sen e culdesac all wearing the signs and all enjoying the lesson and dancing with love in our heart and dancing for equality. And it just felt like, you know, now were saying something. Now were doing something. Now at least these kids can go back and say im part of a protest and feel really good about it. Everybody feels comfortable and empowered by dance. I would hope that people would really notice they can do more. Hopefully it becomes bigger and we get more people involved and we turn into something great. And you could check out other great storieslocalish. Com facebook and ins gram. Love 123450.
