Helping feed people in need is no easy task. One petaluma garden is making sure families have access to food. Before the pandemic we were doing regular services, meals on wheels, our bounty farm. We were meeting the needs. Then when the pandemic broke out, we lad to increase the numbers and had to increase fast. In fact, it was almost tenfold. How many people we had to serve instantaneously. Thats when bud came knocking on the door and said, we can help you figure out how to raise the additional dollars that you need in order to continue to feed seniors in order to make sure families have access to the food. Thought about it for a while and going, well, how can i make meals on wheels work by somehow rather invoking the future of food. I think Everyone Needs to be part of their food system, play a more active role and know how to grow food. It feels different but were going back to our roots, learning to grow our own food. It happened in world war i and world war ii, everyone got into growing their Victory Gardens. Im thinking vanquish a virus with veggies. How is this going to work . Well, the people will pay 75 for a garden bed. People will give the money directly to petaluma meme services. Well fund meals on wheels for a while. We all have a common goal, and thats to make sure as this pandemic stretches on, people in our community have access to fresh fruits and reg tables. Happy gardening. We heard there was going to be Victory Gardens, and were partnering with petaluma bounty and Petaluma People Services along with heritage salvage. Whatever they need, were able to do. Weve donated a few hundred bags of soil to accommodate our brothers in need. You show up at heritage salvages driveway and you get a box kit, tenpack of seeds, vegetable starts and the amazing Victory Garden poster by katy indicated. Its amazing to be a part of this, to see everybody coming together. It blows my mind. Its my great desire that after covid well see all these pople picking the fruits of the future of food and, therefore, we vanquish the virus with veggies. They grew it, planted it, harvested it and fed their families. They did it all themselves. Hopefully theyll recognize they dont have to throw away the extra. They can give that extra to our petaluma bounty farm and well get it to families who need that extra food. Thats what the value of this kind of project is. We sold out instantaneously. Thats a community paying attention. Theyre not just doing it because theyre getting a good deal. Theyre doing it because they know this is going to help somebody else. I think thats what were really getting out of it. Were becoming a Stronger Community because of the pandemic. Thats our silver lining. You can check out more Great Stories at localish.
