Reporter aboard 25 medical professionals coming back home to San Francisco after two to four weeks of working on the frontlines of covid19 in new york city. Just two days ago, ucsf doctor ethan weiss told abc7 he was concerned about this scenario during the sixhour flight. Im scared of getting on the airplane on saturday. I have been taking care of covid19 patients the last two weeks and more scared about getting on the airline than walking into a hospital. Reporter ten days after the flight passengers received an email from united saying social distancing would be part of the new changes during this pandemic. In this tweet dr. Weiss showed his message to united, ensuring the middle seat in every row would be blocked. But the reality was different and potential of what he feared the most became a reality. If i randomly happened to be seated in an aisle seat and the person in the window seat has covid, then im probably more than likely to get infected there than i would be in the icu. Reporter united did not comment on why social distancing was not implemented on this flight and instead replied in part, with overhauled cleaning safety procedures implementing those on board in the process to promote social distancing. United also added this was a complementary free flight for medical professionals and everyone on board was asked to wear face coverings consistent with their new policy. New this morning, another major question for california businesses are how are local Wine Industries going to bounce back after reopening . Small bay area wineries have lost on average 40 to 60 of sales during the shutdown. I spoke to a topline analyst rob mcmillan from napa county. He said wines will have to shift Business Models and many should start thinking now about marketing towards a younger crowd. I think at this point with older consumers sheltering in place, maybe a little less anxious to get out, youre naturally going to have that younger consumer in your tasting room. So i suggested to wineries in my blog that they think about maybe think about changing their casing treatments, like surcharging like uber does. Super busy, you raise the price. If its not busy, you lower the price, instead of a flat thing. Interesting idea there. But rob says right now the average is 45 a person so a little sleep for maybe a younger couple. Still, wineries rely heavily on tastings in their wine rooms. Which will not be opening for some time. Right now the winners are seeing an average 60 increase in sales thanks to so many people sheltering at home and buying wine. And speaking of wine, spend time with mom for a virtual wine tasting.
