And a teenager out shopping finds 135,000 in cold hard cash. What he did next and the surprise ending to the story. Good friday morning, everyone. Thank you for joining us. We will bring you the latest on the coronavirus and the new concern inside the west wing of the white house in just a moment. But first that breaking news out of georgia. A father and a son are now under arrest in the shooting death of an unarmed black man. Ahmaud arbery would have turned 26 years old today. Demands for an arrest have grown louder since video of the shooting recently resurfaced. Nearly three months after the shooting the father and the son in the video are now being charged with murder. This morning, authorities making two arrests in the shooting death of ahmaud arbery. This is long overdue, and this is just one step toward justice with a long way to go. Reporter a camera captured the last moments of arberys life in february as he was jogging near his home in brunswick, georgia. Thats him. Thats mcmichael. Reporter agents with the Georgia Bureau of investigation were seen taking Gregory Mcmichael and his son travis into custody late thursday charging both with murder. Gregory is a former Police Officer and a former investigator for a county prosecutor. He and his son are seen here in a photo shared by the naacp. Calls for their arrests have grown louder after video of the shooting surfaced this week prompting Governor Brian Kemp to weigh in. I got to watch the video depicting mr. Arberys last moments alive. I can tell you its absolutely horrific, and georgians deserve answers. Reporter the video shows mcmichael waiting for arbery with guns. The 25yearold was unarmed as he approached a white truck. Theres a struggle between arbery and travis mcmichael, gunshots go off, and arbery collapses. The mcmichaels told police they believed he was the same person seen on security cameras breaking into homes and had chased him claiming they were trying to make a citizens arrest. Theres a black male running down the street. Reporter because of their apparent connections to the father and son, two prosecutors recused themselves from the case. In a letter one of those prosecutors said he sees the video differently writing, arbery initiated the fight, grabbed the shotgun and under georgia law mcmichael was allowed to use deadly force to protect himself adding it was perfectly legal to stop arbery in the first place. An attorney for the victims family disagrees. The important reason why it could not be a citizens arrest is that under that statute, a citizen would actually have to observe a crime taking place. Ahmaud arbery is only observed running down the road. Reporter before the arrest arberys mother appeared on Good Morning America remembering her son who would have turned 26 years old today. Ahmaud had the most humblest spirit. Ahmaud was kind. Ahmaud was well mannered. Ahmaud didnt deserve to go the way that he went. Reporter the attorney for the victims family says theyll also pursue federal hate crime charges. State investigators will hold a News Conference later this morning. The cover of Time Magazine says the great reckoning. More americans are unemployed than at any time since the depression. Some analysts believe 128 28 million jobs have been lost in the last month. One expert at Jpmorgan Chase says it could take 10 to 12 years to get them back, but President Trumps former economic adviser is sounding more optimistic predicting a swift rebound. I would not underestimate the strength and the recovery of this economy. It may look different than the economy we had going into the crisis. By that i mean we may have a different mix of jobs, but we will be very clever and very creative at creating new jobs and new opportunities. Even though flynn admitted to the crime, attorney general william barr says it was an easy decision to drop the case. Abcs alex presha has more. Reporter this morning, attorney general william barr is defending the Justice Departments controversial move dropping its case against michael flynn, President Trumps first National Security adviser. It was not a crime. Reporter flynn pleaded guilty more than two years ago to lying to the fbi. His prosecution was one of the biggest brought by special counsel Robert Muellers investigation into ties between russia and the trump campaign. The case centered around flynn lying about his contact with then Russian Ambassador sergei kislyak. Even though flynn admitted to lying, the Justice Department concluded that flynns prosecution was unjustified and that his statements were not material to any viable counterintelligence investigation concerning the russians. Barr says dismissing the charges was an easy decision. You know, people sometimes plead to things that turn out not to be crimes. Reporter President Trump claims he didnt know the Justice Department would be dropping the case. After the announcement he praised flynn as a hero and directed his anger at the investigation into russian interference. Theyre dishonest, crooked people. Theyre scum, and i say it a lot. Scientists say they can be five times bigger than a honeybee and in rare cases can kill people. Right now the aim is to capture them by using a cocktail of wine and orange juice, a k a mimosas. It is to lure them into traps. They just use those kinds of things because they have the sugars and fermenting fruits and stuff like that that attract these hornets. Some of these things in these cocktail mixes that were trapping with such as the rice wine are actually designed to deter other pollinators. We dont want to hang traps all over the place and catch thousands of bees. Those researchers using thermal imaging cameras looking for nests under ground. We turn now to new concerns about testing for the coronavirus. One test is showing a false negative 15 of the time. Earlier i spoke with dr. Yvonne maldonado. I asked her about businesses where the virus can linger, and i asked her how worried she is about the testing supply chain. I think theres pretty good evidence at this point that were still having significant supply chain issues around the country. There are surveys from the society of pathologists that suggest that the laboratories are having significant issues. Im also concerned about the types of tests that are being used and the limitations of some of the tests, that is, the false positive and the false negative rates need to be very clear before people do these tests so that they can let people know what the limits of their test results might be. Dr. Maldonado, as more of the country does partially reopen, restaurants, gyms and hair salons, theres new concern about public locations that have been dubbed super spreaders of the virus. New studies looked at how many people visit these locations and how long they linger. Should we avoid certain places over others . I think the term super spreader doesnt mean theyre more likely to get infected in a particular type of place. I think what it really means is that there are places where people are more likely to linger and stay closer together. So i would suggest that many places which many places are already considering doing is to start to stage people to come back to areas that are less dense where people can spread apart more freely and may also not linger as long. And as for treatment, theres a new study about the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine which researchers and the president have hoped would be effective fighting covid19. What are we learning regarding that . Well, again, more bad news about hydroxychloroquine. The first news we heard, of course, was that many people in a previous study had to drop out because of heart concerns and concerns about death and heart problems so we need to be careful with that drug. The Current Study with almost 1,500 people did show that there was no effect of the drug it was not a randomized controlled trial, but it still had a large number of patients, and it was a well done observational study, so at this point i think we need to focus on doing studies with other drugs as well. Dr. Maldonado, finally other doctors have found success with hydroxychloroquine plus zinc. What do you think about that . Again, its hard to know if it would work alone or in the presence of zinc or any of the vitamins that are being suggested, and those need to be put through rigorous studies. And our thanks to dr. Maldonado. Coming up, a new job for 98yearold betty white. Plus, a monkey holds up an atm. I promise the video is next.
