I want to start by talking about the rapid test for covid19. One has a 15 false negative rate. This on top of the challenges when it comes to testing supplies. According to new analysis, states have to significantly step up testing to reopen the economy. Are you concerned about these developments . Yes. I think theres pretty good evidence at this point that were still having significant supply chain issues around the country. There are surveys from the society of pathologists that suggests that the laboratories are having significant issues. Im also concerned about the types of tests that are being used and the limitations of some of the tests, that is, the false positive and the false negative rates need to be very clear before people do these tests so they can let people know what the limits of their test results might be. This is going to significantly impact our ability to understand whats going on in the community if we dont know that we can depend on our tests and that we can depend on having enough tests. Dr. Maldonado, as more of the country does especially reopen restaurants, gyms, and hair salons, theres new concern about public locations that have been dubbed super spreaders of the virus. New studies looked at how many people visit these locations and how long they linger. Thursday california said the first case of Community Spread there came from a nail salon. What can we take away from this new analysis of public places, and should we avoid certain places over others . I think the term super spreader doesnt mean theyre more likely to get infected in a particular type of place. I think what it really means is that there are places where people are more likely to linger and stay closer together. So i would suggest that many places, which many places are already considering doing, is start to stage people to come back to areas that are less dense, where people can spread apart more freely, and may also not linger as long. Or if theyre going to linger for an extended period, they could have more space. And as for treatment, theres a new study about the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine which researchers and the president hoped would be effective fighting covid19. What are we learning regarding that . Well, again, more bad news about hydroxychloroquine. First the news was many people in a previous u. S. Study had to drop out because of heart concerns about death and heart problems. We need to be careful with that drug. The Current Study with almost 1,500 people did show there was no effect of the drug it was not a randomized control trial but it still had a large number of patients and it was a welldone observational study. So i think it is still being studied in a randomized fashion, a very stringent way, but those data wont be available for several weeks to months. At this point i think we need to focus on doing studies with other drugs as well. Drugs that may target the virus in different ways than hydroxychloroquine. Other doctors have found success with hydroxychloroquine plus zinc, what do you think about that . Its hard to know if it would work alone or in the presence of zinc or any of the vitamins being suggested and those need to be put through rigorous studies in order to understand if they would work or not. In a letter one of those prosecutors says he sees the video differently writing, arbery initiated the fight, grabbed the shotgun, and under georgia law mcmichael was allowed to use deadly force to protect himself adding it was perfectly legal to stop arbery in the first place. The important reason it could not be a citizens arrest is under that statute, a citizen would actually have to observe a crime taking place. Ahmaud arbery is only observed running down the road. Reporter before the arrest arberys mother appeared on Good Morning America remembering her son, who would have turned 26 years old today. Ahmaud carried the most humblest spirit. Ahmaud was kind. He was well mannered. Ahmaud didnt deserve to go the way that he went. We expect to learn more about the charges against the mcmichaels later this morning. Theres an expected news conference.
