Governor newsom is expected to announce guidelines for beginning phase two of reopening the state tomorrow but most of the bay area wont be starting phase two. Of the nine regions only napa and sonona and San Francisco, san mateo, santa clara, alameda and marin are not. The number of deaths are still going up and we have not lowered the curve. So we have to be mindful of that and responsible when we look at ways to bring various industries back. Governor newsom says we will still have a long road to a full reopening and full recovery. He says its going to take a long longer than people are saying. The governor is expected to speak today at noon. Some california beauty salons and barbershops plan to sue the governor so they can open back up. A professional Group Representing the beauty professionals say theyre Small Businesses that hire contractors nth it could be months before e places like hair salons can open back up. The morning commute. That is the prediction that the morning commute will be at least 42 minutes longer than it was before the shelterinplace order. This is based on a study of the bay area traffic from vanderbilt university. The prediction is that the bay area will be the hardest hit with new york and l. A. Expected to be second and third. The reason is they think people will not be willing to get back on to b. A. R. T. Or other public transportation. They also think people will skip the car pool. When we reopen, we know we will not have packed transit, we know that. And thats because there is going to be social distancing or other requirements. People may not wish to come back. So, i think the one thing that well get for sure is packed freeways and the question is, what does that mean and what does that look like . We just dont know yet. The metropolitan Transportation Commission or mtc released some numbers for bridge traffic compared this year and last year. 2020 numbers are down from 2019, but they are starting to creep back up. The hope is this study will help everyone with their recovery strategy, commuters and transportation planners. At this point up until now it has been largely Health Care Workers and emergency responders, but we are now deploying this testing model to include all adults both symptomatic and asymptomatic. There are no testing sites in california yet, but peters says he believes 10,000 tests per day to start will be more than enough to meet the demand. The reality is pretty much all of us are excited to hear what Governor Newsom has to say and lifting restrictions on those nonessential businesses. Here is what we expect the governor to be laying out in his daily News Conference at noon today. You can watch that on abc7 news. Some stores wont be allowed to be open for curbside pickup. Clothing, book, music, toy stores and florists and similar shops but in order for that to happen, it must be signed off on the local and county level and then approved boo ity the state. It is going to take longer than a lot of people think. It will take a lot longer than people are saying. This is serious. Never experienced anything like this in our lifetime. This is depression era numbers in terms of the unemployment youll see across this country, not just in the state of california. Kumasi, as you mentioned, we might be on different timelines here. The bay area. Lets look at what will change in the bay area. Abc7 news reached out to nine bay area counties to see if they plan on moving forward with phase two on friday. San francisco, san mateo, alameda, co i orcontra costa, oa and solano counties saying they will. A little piece of good news, though. I should say that napa and solano counties say they will allow lowrisk activities and now to the pieces of good news. Alameda and marin saying they may be ready for phase two as early as midmay. Maybe in a couple weeks restrictions lifted for some on our counties here in the bay ar area. Reporting live this morning, julian fwlglover, abc7 news. Shopping mall is back open. Health official gave the green light because they have a low covid19 infection rate. Only one person is hospitalized with the virus. But there is some confusion. A bar and restaurant in wheatland was ready to open when alcohol Beverage Control agents paid them a visit. The businesses were ordered to close the inside dining room. So, were getting conflicting stories. So, county wants to do it one way and government likes to do it another way. Boat both of them fighting against each other is putting all the Small Businesses at risk and making it difficult for us. At the mall, shoppers were supposed to wear masks and maintain social distancing, but as we can see in this video, a lot of them did not. The yuba center Health Officials said more restriction physical people dont wear the masks and stay six feet apart. Testing for coronavirus is key to reopening california and the state is now making it easier for you to find a testing site. You can now go to a website and put in your zip code and it will tell you where the closest location is. Governor newsom says we are making tremendous progress in getting people tested. We have been able to increase our Testing Capacity substantially over the course of the last number of weeks from 2,000 a day to over 25,000 tests a day. In fact, over the last six or seven days, those numbers have increased roughly 30,000 tests a day. And you see the web address on the bottom of your screen. It is covid19. Ca. Gov. Take it to the east bay now where oakland has opened a free covid19 testing site for anyone who feels they might have the virus. The walkup testing site opened yesterday in east oakland on international boulevard. One of the first walkin only coronavirus testing sites in the bay area. Its opened mondays, wednesdays and fridays from 10 00 a. M. To 4 00 p. M. Health insurance is not required. Napa county is also making it more available to test. So, anyone who lives or works in napa county can get one of these tests and in San Francisco, if you are an essential worker, you can get tested regardless of symptoms. Any resident can also get tested if you display a certain number of symptoms. The Trump Administration has a tight grip on what information the cdc can release about the covid19 pandemic, but that didnt stop the former head of the agency of warning lawmakers about a long and difficult fight ahead. Looks like last week more than 3. 1 Million People filed for unemployment benefits. That means more than 33 Million People have filed for aid in the last seven weeks since the shut downs began.
