No word on when the initial results are expected. Several new concerns are being raised about testing for the coronavirus. One member of the White House Task force says we need a breakthrough in technology. Earlier i asked dr. Imran ali what such a breakthrough would entail and why so many tests are not reliable. Well, right now, kenneth, what we use is a viral pcr tool. So the rna, the major component of the virus, is very, very small, so when we go to the laboratory, we use something called pcr, which amplifies it and then it lights up in the lab showing whether its positive or negative. It detects the whole virus particle. What she was talking about yesterday was looking at an antigen test, which would look at parts of the virus which can be rapidly detected. We want to get to a point where we can do tests and get results within five minutes. Vice president mike pence says the worst of this pandemic may be behind us here in the u. S. By memorial day weekend. Thats in a month. Your thoughts . Well, i wish we could really be ready by the summer, but from all the projections im looking at by april 15th we had been seeing on average 2,600 deaths per day from the coronavirus. That was a peak. We are seeing a slight dip in the numbers, but still the projections say for at least until august were going to have to keep the social distancing, and the peak and the slight dip were seeing now is because of the current restrictions. Many people are Wearing Masks in public. Its recommended especially in hot spots now, but how long should we be wearing them during the day, and can they cause breathing problems . We see police in new jersey say a driver may have passed out from wearing an n95 mask for too long. I recommend patients if youre driving by yourself in your own car, you dont need to wear the mask, per se. Even if you want to wear a mask and youre exercising, dont wear the mask for more than two hours. If you have asthma or if you have other breathing problems, this makes it much more difficult to get in more air because youre filtering all that air through this thick material. Plus, also, the Carbon Dioxide you breathe up just gets trapped in here, and thats what probably caused that gentleman or that person who was driving that car to be faint and to get into that car accident. Lots of reaction from those two doctors. Doctors we spoke to in the bay area completely disagree. Now is not the time to lift the governors stayathome order. Those two doctors from the bay area, theyve been getting a lot of clicks and likes online for their comments that were largely based on Data Collected from a reported 5,000 coronavirus tests theyve done at their system of urgent care facilities around bake bakersfield. It suggests a large portion of the states population is already infect would the virus but medical doctors we spoke to said not to use the slice of numbers from one county to make a case to reopen the entire state of california. Its not scientifically sound to take one population from one county and try to make a claim based on our National Picture or even the rest of the state. Doctors we spoke with said the goal is to still continue flattening the curve as much as possible here in the bay area and right now the stayathome order is helping us do that. The big question remains. When will we see the shelterinplace restrictions lifted. Dr. P, a, it el says that he can see things beginning to reopen in late may, early june, soon, but not quite now.
