Reporter a glimpse into the fear and uncertainty that many lived inside this walmart. It was scary. I was at the back of the store and all i heard was a bunch of people running to the back saying there was a shooter. And so it scy. Eporter this s preferred to remain unanimous, drove to the store hoping the lines were shorter for supplies. Instead found chaos. This was like a long line up in the davis one so we just decided to kind of try this one to see if the lines were shorter, and they were. Reporter up front right at the entrance, a man was shot and killed by a San Leandro Police officer. Two Police Officers received a call about a ban brandishing a baseball bat inside the store. Initial reports pointed to a potential robbery. During the detention officers deployed the taser. The taser was ineffective. The same over then fired one shot at the suspect, striking him at the torso. At the same time simultaneously, the second officer deployed their taser. Nderso confirmedhe officersder s dropt baseball bat but he refused. If theres a taser deployment, there has to be some type of perceived threat and this is an active threat. Reporter at least 20 people are being interviewed as witnesses of this shooting. In a statement walmart said to abc7 news in part we appreciate the Quick Response of local authorities and are thankful no one else was injured. We will consider to assist law enforcement. According to s the officer who shot the man is a 20plusyear veteran and now is under administrative leave. And abc7 also saw workers in a mcdonalds in oakland walk off the job over covid19 safety concerns. Take a look. Representatives for the workers say they filed a complaint with the Alameda County health department. They say people are worried about sick leave and getting personal protective equipment. This past week Governor Newsom ordered two weeks of paid sick leave for Food Industry workers. Then the panels roadmap suggests people who had recent contact with a positive individual need to be carefully traced. Right now the guidance were getting is we can resume the evalua proceop. That would mean matthew would be in bim low for six months without what is called an individualized Education Plan from his local school district, berkeley unified. In other words, a loss of precious time. Getting involved and having therapy at a very young age and critical and clinically shown to help improve. Reporter when the lockdown order came, the California Legislature was quick to pass senate bill 117 to provide guidance and to protect School Districts, granting them the right to waive certain requirements. For example, School Districts are now allowed to extend time lines for assessments. But family advocates say its time to think out of the box. We could make those kids automatically eligible. Reporter right now if districts are having a hard time coming up with online instruction for their regular education students, the reality is that very little is being done for those in special education programs.
