We have to stress these were done in a lab setting which doesnt always translate to the real world so doing something in a lab is different than if you were on a subway or, you know, in a hospital or wherever but it is a huge sign that we just need to be extra vigilant about this virus when it comes to airborne spread. This all comes as the debate over masking everyone continues. Riverside recommends they cover their nose and mouth when leaving home. The task force still discussing it. Could a major shift happen here . I do think were going to see a little bit more of a major shift. There needs to be consistent messaging when it comes to this, i have to say, because one thing people are hearing right now is, wait a minute. You know, President Trump said you could wear a scarf and were hearing reports about surgical masks preventing the spread of droplets. Whats the deal . The thing is its common sense. If you are sick and youre coughing out droplets, any barrier is going to reduce your transmission to somebody else. Now the question still remains of how much you can protect yourself if somebody else is sick by wearing a cloth mask but people are saying anything is better than nothing. The issue, if we just kind of have no guidelines and let people run out and get masks were concerned about the supplies for hospital workers. Were hearing about reports of shortages on common prescription drugs at pharmacies, generic and antibiotics, Blood Pressure meds. What are you hearing . Im hearing the same thing. Both officially and off the record. So weve already heard a week ago reports of shortages of hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, two of the medications that were referenced by the white house as being potential Game Changers of this, hydroxychloroquine is now in a clinical trial. Ill already heard of patients who normally take this medication because they have autoimmune disease and cant fill their prescription because the pharmacies are out. Could this type of crackdown harm the public or other medical professionals . This one gets me riled up and it hits me on a personal level because there is nothing positive that could come out of that. Theres nothing good about the optics when you hear about a story about a Front Line Health Care worker who spoke out because they didnt feel safe and sends a terrible message. Especially when you think about the fact that every last medical professional is needed. Dr. Patel says as long as hospital workers dont reveal patient information, they shouldnt speak out about revealing safety. These stricter social distancing efforts are all in an attempt to further decrease our contact with people as we try to go about our daytoday lives dont overwhelm our hospitals with the growing number of coronavirus patients.
