Marin county reported its first death yesterday, a man in his 70s who got sick after taking a cruise on the grand princess. Its second case of covid19, a campus employee recovering at home. In partnership with the Silicon Valley community foundation, several relief funds are in place meant to help small business, nonprofits and anyone at risk of becoming homeless or doesnt have access to money, food or other necessities. They still have to repay their rent in a timely manor, a key aspect of this moratorium that doesnt sit well with senator scott weiner. It doesnt go far enough. People can still be evicted for not paying rent. They wont be evicted right now during the state of emergency but could be evicted after the state of emergency ends. A quick fix and way to delay evictions and not necessarily stop them. But while the crisis is going on, we need to cancel rents and make it so that tenants dont have to pay it back at the end and neither do homeowners or small landlords.
