But the company said that website is in Early Development stages. Here is what the administration said about that site. Start in the screening website up here, facilitated by google where clients and patients and people of interest can go. Fill out a screening questionnaire, move down for symptoms and risk factors, yes. They would move down this and be told where the drivethrough options would be for them to receive this test. The labs will then move to the high throughput automated machines to be able to provide results in 24 to 36 hours. Testing so far has really lagged in the united states. According to the cdc, fewer than 15,000 federal and state tests have been administered so far. For more on this, we depend greatly on our coronavirus experts. One member is medical expert dr. Alok patel, not just a pediatrician, but also a journalist and producer. Thank you for coming in and talking to us about a couple different topics. Im going to get through every question i have. Well do it. Lets start big and kind of get localized. You heard the president talking about google working with the administration to set up these athome tests and drivethroughs. Whats your first thought . My first thought, in theory, if theres a way to screen americans and get them to a testing site, it may keep people out of urgent cares or hospitals where they can potentially get other people infected. We obviously have a lot of questions. Theres some key features missing about this such as data, are they going to be tracking people . Also, what are people going to do if they cant access this . Talking about the homeless, people who dont have a phone, dont have a car that can go wait in line . So i like the overall idea, well have to see if the execution matches it. If you dont have a car, you get a bunch of people standing in line and everybody is not doing the social distancing. Or there are people that wont be able to go. That site is too far, im going to stay home. Yesterday Governor Newsom reiterated concerns about the testing kits and said basically we dont have what we need here in california. Now the president is saying those issues are being resolved. Talk about why its so important to get people tested, although as the president kept pointing out today in his address, not everyone should get tested. Weve been saying were going to have millions of tests for weeks now. We have to have them available for people who may be at risk, people who are traveling or concerned about their level of isolation or what theyre going to be doing, who theyll be around. One thing we have to clear up, when we say tests, its a broad term. Theres a testing kit, chemicals go into the test. Then you need to take out the genetic material from the virus. These are three different supplies. The cdc is sending out one part. State labs, commercial labs have to step up because there is a national shortage. Thats what Governor Newsom was saying, its like having a printer and no ink. We have to make sure we not only have the availability of tests, but all the right chemicals to run the test. People have to have access to them. A lot of things in the supply chain of tracking this disease. Theyre trying to get the turnaround time once tested to getting results to be within 24 hours, whereas right now its several days. Wed love to get it down to a o help s. Public health but help people understand what they need to do in that moment. Lets talk about social distanci distancing. We cant talk about it enough. Is this six feet . Keeps coming down, now down to about 100 people or less. Talk about why this is so important. This is super important. It gives all of us something to take into our hands. Also, it goes back to the spikes we were looking at yesterday in flattening the curve. If we can keep our distance and we look at our individual risk and we do our best to not spread coronavirus, what well do is spread out the amount of new cases over time and not create that huge influx of new cases. What this is going to do, its going to keep our health care h capacity. Thats the bread and butter of social distancing and why its so important. Weve seen today its really hitting the fan. Its hitting. S cas eeing closed. A lot of parents are saying, were closed for three weeks, lets head to tahoe, make an early spring vacation. Does that defeat the purpose . I guess if you can have nice cabin and can quarantine yourself in your cabin. Does it defeat the purpose if everyone is going to these vacation spots . Again, you have to look at what your situation is and what social distancing means for you. Social distancing is a behavioral change. If you were to say, listen, were going to take our own private car to our own destination, wherever it may be, tahoe or somewhere else, and were going to avoid these large gatherings such as a crowded bar or a restaurant, probably wouldnt take your kids to a bar, that may absolutely qualify as social distancing. Again, thats a specific situation. People who have the means to do that. This is going to mean Something Else for a lot of different people. For some families this is a critical period because they have to figure out child care, do i skip work, how am i going to follow social distancing while maintaining my life. How do you keep the kids from hitting the wall . You want to take them outside, its probably going to rain spencer was telling us. What about being outside . Some places are closed, the zoos are going to be open. Can we still take them to the playground . Kids, they need to get out that energy. Whats the effect on just being outside unless youre under a stayathome quarantine, thats different. What about being outside . Youre totally right, being outside is important. Play is important. These are different behaviors and activities that help children cope with stress and fear. It is important that children are not going insane indoors. Again, parents have to think about where is this playground, how many people are going to be at this playground, can i reasonably watch all four of my children and make sure theyre not touching playground equipment and eating something or touching their eyes. Im not saying playgrounds all across america are covered in coronavirus. These are basic things families should think about before taking the kids out in public. Take an evaluation of the playground youre thinking of. Some libraries are closing. If its open, same thing . I would take caution with the library and look at the situation. Again, basic, basic, hand hygiene and protective measures apply everywhere. Those are powerful. You can dip your hands into coronavirus. If you wash properly, youre still good. These are things we need to teach our kids, whether theyre going to a water park, the li o publi park. My last question. Bear with me. The water, im seeing a lot of moms asking, well, swim class is still open. Something a lot of parents take their kids to weekly. Is it still safe . They feel like thats one of the relatively safe places to still take their kids . Does chlorine in the pool kill coronavirus . According to the World Health Organization and the epa from what i was reading, chlorination should actually kill this coronavirus, even our basic filtration and treatment we do for our u. S. Water supply, should keep the water clean and coronavirusfree. With that being said, thats only in the pool environment. That is not including the changing room. Any other wading area. The play lobby. Some public pools are very crowded. Another thing to take into account. I told you i was going to get through all my questions. We did it. Thank you, doctor. We want to make sure you have th ltevelmere prepared and safe. Thats why we have our team of experts including our fabulous dr. Patel. Im not sure if im comforted or more scared now.
