plowed into pedestrians at a busy intersection in the mission district. this happened about 4:20 yesterday afternoon at 23rd and mission. a muni bus stopped after being clipped by the suspect's car. as he was trying to get away, police say he hit three people. two of them were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. >> i see when that happened on the corner, so i'm really, really -- i feel really bad, i don't know if that guy died or not. >> nobody has died so far that we know of. the third person was treated and released. police say the driver left the scene for about five minutes, then came back. you saw video from sky 7 t shows the driver receiving a field sobriety test. >> fremont police are investigating a serious crash. you can see this vehicle hit a tree near a pole on mission boulevard at nickel street. police were called to the scene around 8:30 last night. they closed part of the road and redirected traffic. paramedics responded to this incident but police have not said how the driver is doing. new information on a developing story in the south bay. the search for a wanted fugitive has come to an end in san jose. police say a k-9 officer took down the sspect after 3:00 this morning on vista verde drive. the suspect is being treated at a local hospital for nonlife threatening injuries. police will release new details about the suspect later today. part of building a better bay area is building a b.a.r.t. accessible and safe for everyone. >> today the b.a.r.t. board will discuss how to improve the system, they're dealing with declining ridership and growing safety concerns. julian has more on what they'll be covering. >> reporter: we know b.a.r.t. is far from perfect but it's what we live with in the bay area, so the board is meeting to build a better b.a.r.t. there's several things that people have been tweeting about about what they can do this comes at a time when they have declining ridership, steady decline in the off-peak times, nights and weekends. in an article published in the "san francisco chronicle" yesterday, it was reported that b.a.r.t. has seen a drop in 10 million night and weekend passengers since 2015. top concerns were said to be safety, reliability and trains not running in the direction or area that you're trying to get to. inside of b.a.r.t.'s two-day board meeting they'll take up those concerns like rebuilding ridership perhaps by further increasing service on weekends, b.a.r.t. police department will also be discussing their vision for safety and goals for the riders experience in five years from now come the year 2025. we did not see anything on the agenda discussing the newly launched ambassador program that now has those 10 uniformed civilian employees walking the trains and making sure nothing is bad is happening on nights and weekends. that meeting does start today in oakland at 8:30. it's open to the public. so this is your chance to voice those concerns if you do have some. for now latest example of b.a.r.t. facing crime. police are searching for the person who attacked a man on a daly city bound train as it was approaching the lake merritt station. police say the suspect attacked the man with a chain after asking him for directions. the victim's injuries were not life threatening. developing news, japan just confirmed its first death from the coronavirus. >> the victim was a woman in her 80s who was being treated in a hospital. china reported 14,000 new cases yesterday after implementing a new way to diagnose the virus. 218 people are now infected on the diamond princess cruise ship which is quarantined in the water near tokyo. a 14th american has now tested positive here in california just hours after the cdc warned the spread of the disease in the u.s. is likely. health officials are warning about a problem with some coronavirus test kits sent to labs across the country including here in california. the cdc says some of the kits are flawed. they don't work properly. they were meant to allow states to do their own testing. they're supposed to get reslts faster than if they sent the samples all the way to the cdc in atlanta. the cdc is woman putting 33 bottles in a bag and police say they left without paying. investigators are working with officers in other east bay cities to see if the richmond suspect that you see on the left is connected to other crimes. he does resemble one of the men caught on camera attacking and robbing a man in his oakland driveway on monday. you can see the red pans are similar and the hairstyle also seems similar. we're asking what should you do if you get attacked like this man was in oakland. we talked to a retired san francisco police commander. he's the current director of the institute of criminal justice leadership at usf. he said an attack can happen fast but it's important to stay calm. >> there's traditional rules, one is to stay calm, do what you're told, only what you're told. no
