Details on that and the week ahead in a few minutes. Now the 2020 race for the white house. We launched a new series of reports, chasing california which explores issues and strategy leading up to the president ial primary on super tuesday in march. In our first episode, my colleague and i travel to fresno to take a look at Bernie Sanders strategy to win california by winning the latino vote. Heres a portion of that story followed by a discussion on why this matters. [ cheers and applause ] people are excited to have, like, a spotlight on fresno. [ cheers and applause ] its not the sexy San Francisco, its not the sexy l. A. Why do you think the Central Valley has been overlooked by a lot of politicians. Because of our high communities of color. We deserve attention too. That candidate who wins california has an excellent chance to win the nomination. Were here in fresno because Bernie Sanders has his very first rally here in the Central Valley. Its kind of a big deal that hes campaigning here. A lot of times politicians ignore this part of california. Its a part of his strategy that hes trying to campaign in different parts of the state. In 1,000 feet, your destination will be on the right. Were heading to a coffee job to meet with an organizer whos involved in get out the vote efforts especially among young people and latinos. What does the youth vote look like right now here in the Central Valley . Across the seven counties that make up the valley, weve seen the largest turnout in latino voters in the midterms last year. Young latino voters, but we exist at the crosssection of many identities. Weve had over 3,000 preregistered young people who are ready to vote. And thats just part of the story. You can see the rest of the episode at abc7 news. Com. Whats interesting about this story that weve been covering of the latino vote and Bernie Sanders strategy is that Bernie Sanders was not in the lead when we first started reporting on this. And now this week he is the frontrunner here in california. And im curious, how much you think this strategy to go after the latino vote might be part of that. It is. Its a key part of it. In california its all about getting different groups and building up, up and up. It takes a lot of money if you want to buy tv time. The other way is to go directly to the people. And thats what Bernie Sanders has been doing. Hes been doing it now for five years. True. He ran last time and he never stopped running. So he is continuously been running. This isnt his first time in the Central Valley. Hes been there. Hes come back there. Its not his first time with latino voters and younger voters. Hes been there as well. Unlike the other candidates that dropped into this race or got started a year ago or two, Bernie Sanders has been moving hes got the operation and on the ground in the Central Valley. You could say, all of these voters know joe biden. We know him. But Bernie Sanders thats why biden is up there as well. He is, but hes not campaigned hes up there in the polls, but he has not the campaigned in the Central Valley yet and thats a unique thing that Bernie Sanders and no other candidate still in the race has been pete be the va. But Bernie Sanders, every single one of his Campaign Offices whic is really interesting in california are in communities that are heavily latino. Here in San Francisco, his Campaign Office its in the mission. He has one in fresno. Hes the only candidate that has a Campaign Office some of that is cosmetic. Some of that visuals. You want to put your Campaign Headquarters in a place that makes a statement. For sure. Some of the candidates are going to be making their statements along similar lines. Kamala harris chose oakland. Theyre all pushing. In california, the big vote is right here in the bay area. Its the democratic stronghold. The first race you win is the democratic primary. You have to get democrats. Theyre in San Francisco. Theyre in monterey, theyre in sacramento, theyre in the east bay. Theyre in los angeles, but in los angeles, they dont vote. They just dont vote as much. The latino vote is disportionly small versus the population. But hes appealing to them and its going to give an edge use the rest of the pot is going to be sliced up. Theres only so many slices in the pie. The trick is to go some place where other people arent going. Its the Central Valley. Its down the spine of the state which is usually ignored because its heavily republicn. Turnout is getting higher among latinos and i think the Sanders Campaign knows that. Turnout, you need enthusiasm for turnout. U do. You spoke with the younger people and the people working in the central value. What is it about Bernie Sanders that theyre enthusiastic about . You would think they might see an old white man and might not want to vote for them. And theyre drawn to his messaging, policies, they like his health care policies. They like his, you know, Affordable College policies. Those are the issues. We can dig into this for a very long time and this is what this piece explores. Its on abc7news. Com. Were digging into the political race. We have another one coming out next week that we worked on together about bloomberg and his strategy. The billionaire. Yeah. Weve got everything in this race and theyre all chasing to catch california. Totally. We have women, billionaires, weve got bernie, weve got biden. And the other candidates are still out there waiting to see what happens. They might be coming back into the race. California really matters this time. Thats why we have this series. You can watch chasing california in its entirety, you can read the column on wednesdays and sundays. This episode we just showed you is available right now on online. Thanks for watching and joining. Thanks. Good to be here. That was a great conversation with phil. California really does matter this primary. Seeing that piece we did, those young voters, many of them the first people in their families who have been able to vote are energized and excited to get to the polls. We look forward to sharing more of these types of stories with you in the coming weeks and you can watch each episode on abc7news. Building brick by brick has been the moto of the head coach since 2017. Now in year three, the 49ers are seeing the fruits of their labor having built a poised team. As you go through a season together and you have a lot of experiences and most of those have been positive, i think it gets stronger. This is a family atmosphere and guys care about one another, fight for one another, guys care about each other on and off the field. Thats cool and its special to be a part of. When you have that kind of chemistry and its all throughout this team, this organization, i feel like when you have that, the sky is the limit. And i feel like we deserve it at this moment and we have to take advantage of it. Stay with abc7 all day as we bring you the 49ers coverage from levis stadium. Enjoy the game and have a great sunday. Were focused on the game this afternoon which will feature cry conditions and mild temperatures. A live look outside where you see the golden gate bridge. Not as much fog. That easterly breeze, offshore wind has brought in the chilly air, bringing some fog by the delta and has kept us cool a lot like yesterday. Keeps the clouds around with a weak system to our north. And some of the clouds are thinning out for partly sunny conditions. And looking at rain returning, its a weak system, a level one system for tuesday. Current check right now with upper 30s still in the north bay, 47 in San Francisco, 41 in livermore. Here is a look at santa cruz where temperatures are in the low first times. And by tuesday, this rain will travel down to the south bay, the Central Coast and well get wet there in san jose, santa cruz and some scattered showers around the Central Coast. As we look at emeryville, it looks a little breezy. We have those easterly winds and theyre gusty in the upper elevations, 20 to 25 miles per hour. At the surface unless youre in the valley, youre not noticing the wind. A little breezy at times in spots but overall its the cloud cover. Lots of high clouds from 10 to 20,000 feet with High Pressure in control, though. Were looking at the storm track diverted well to the north and these clouds moving in with the ridge and that will allow for the clouds. But as we look at that offshore flow this morning, here are the winds and thats transported some of the fog, certainly the cooler air into the bay. As we look at temperatures in the mountains, cold to start, this next system bringing snow anywhere from four to maybe 10 inches. But the forecast for today, cloudy, in the 40s, south lake, and for the holiday on monday, temperatures coming up a little bit through the overnight. As we look at our storm impact scale, this is what arrives on tuesday, its a level one. Rainfall less than a half an inch. A few locations in the far north bay. Could see a half of an inch. Most of us a tenth to 0. 2 with those breezy winds. As we take a look at your early tuesday, the morning could be wet for some of you in the north bay. By the Early Morning hours, by 10 30, here comes the front. It moves on through throughout the day. That will allow for scattered showers. Amounts, very minimal from a couple underneaths in fremont, 0. 2. Highs today, 56, palo alto. Santa cruz, milder, 61. In the south bay and san jose, 60 in santa rosa. And looking at santa clara where temperatures will start out mild. But when the game gets under way, getting cool with temperatures in the 50s. 45 in oakland and with milder readings throughout the overnight tonight. Thats due to the cloud cover. Level one system arrives on tuesday and then we have dry and milder conditions. It would be fun, wouldnt it, if we could take it all the way. It really would be. I think were going to do it. Lets not get our hopes up. But i think its going to happen. As excitement builds for todays game, so are warnings about ticket scams. Some fans may be so amped up that they could become targets of fraud. Heres a message from the team. Tickets like the old days. Instead, fans must purchase tickets on a mobile device using an app that displays a bar code which must be scanned at the gate. The system makes counterfeiting difficult. This Team Executive tells us by phone scammers are bound to try. Theyre still going to be nefarious people out there that are trying to be opportunistic and catch that those fans that are overly excited and want to get into the game thinking that theyre buying a ticket. The team has provided paper tickets to a few holders who dont own mobile devices. However those are rare. If someone tries to sell you one, be careful. Its likely fake. Theres no way to print out an electronic ticket with this app. If someone tries to sell you a printed version, its likely not real and wont get you through the gates. The screen shot of an electronic ticket will not get you in. You must scan the actual bar code, not a picture of one. What he happens is, you wont know that until you come to the game. You spent a lot of money for a ticket and you come to the game and we tell you, im sorry, that ticket is invalid. And now you have four victims standing outside your gate very upset that they cant watch the game. There were no reports of fake tickets last week, but some fans were disappointed to find out that screen shots of tickets didnt work. A seller must transfer a valid ticket onto a buyers mobile device and then the bar code will get you in. The team says the safest way to buy a ticket is through the 49ers website or ticketmaster. But, youll need a mobile device to download your ticket. Im michael finney, 7 on your side. The championship is giving us one adorable reason to root for the blow a kiss into the sun we need someone to lean on blow a kiss into the sun all we needed somebody to lean on conditions are protected. Vo a broken promise. Trump repeatedly tried to undermine coverage for 134 million americans with preexisting conditions. Vo as president , mike will lower costs, and protect americans with preexisting conditions. Mike im Mike Bloomberg and i approve this message. Here is a live look from the city of santa claras Traffic Camera just down the street from levi stadium. Lots of cars already there, up early this morning. 49ers parking lots dont open until 11 40 this morning. Gates to the stadium open at 1 40 and kickoff is at 3 40.
