Reporter on january 11th, 2019, six teenagers crashed off lone tree way and indian hill drive in antioch. 17yearold leanna rubin and 13yearold jay, arjaia lightne killed in the crash. God spared their lives. Their lives will never be different. My neff urk was a football star. He played baseball. He lost his leg. Willies mother tearfully thanked the First Responders that helped rush willie to the hospital that night. After the crash, willie was hospitalized for 57 days. Dear god, we love you. God, we thank you, we praise you and we magnify your name. Willie stood shoulder to shoulder with neari dillworth, another crash survivor. Together they released balloons to honor the four lives that were spared and the two lives that were lost. I feel blessed that were both here. One of the last all girls catholic high schools in San Francisco was now helping students following word that the school will be closing. Some parents we spoke to at Mercy High School on 19th avenue say the announcement was a bit of a surprise. Friday night the school said in an email it would be closing in june, just a if you months ago. The school had been running on a deficit for more than two years. It also said they would have to charge an extra 5,000 in tuition to stay open. There had been rumors of turning mercy into a coed school but they say that is not an option. The school ran through possible transfer options for their current students. These are my sisters. These are my families. The thought of not being able to spend my final year of high school with them is just devastating. Five juniors started a gofundme page trying to raise 5 million to stay open. So far they have little more than 4,000 in that do fug gofu happening today, dont be alarmed if you see people riding bart without pants. New this morning a teenager is in the hospital after being shot during a High School Basketball game. It happened in dallas. Thieves apparently stole their tools and computers weeks before their championship competition. We spoke to the students as they pick up the pieces at their equipment shed. They stole almost everything. Reporter this is the devastating scene the Robotics Team was welcomed with. Over here they stole computers and hand tools from the drawers. Up here we had a bunch of hand drivers. Reporter this was not the first time. Last year the Robotics Team, as they are known, built the shed on School Grounds barr they store equipment for upcoming kpmpg competition. After the 24th it was locked. They decided to add five locks to the shed. This time around they broke in through the wall. This loss was bigger. Over 10,000 worth of equipment and their code. Our laptop was stolen. Laptops, they need to be configured. All of our code was on that laptop. Weve lost a lot of time. Its not its a lot of work. Time is running out. Especially going into build season. We only have about eight weeks to make these robots. So were going to have to take like two weeks to deal with this. That is a quarter of our time gone. Abc 7 news was at the square yesterday where firecrackers and dancing dragon mark the anniversary for Community Clean team. Its the longest running volunteer neighbor program. They have been at it 20 years now. Today we have over 300 volunteers who are here giving us the extra hands that we need to keep our city clean. Of course they celebrated with cleaning and greening. Since the program started, the volunteers logged more than 2,000 hours, painted over 4 million square feet of graffiti and collected more than 5,000 bags of litter. They are clearing making a change in our community. The museum is always a great weekend exhibit. Internationally claimed exhibition is there right now. Certainly clear sky, light winds, passage of cold front yesterday setting us up for a very cold morning. Weve got another one on the way after a second front pushes through. Were going to be in and out of weak cold front, chilly mornings, and a possibility of rain showers. As we look live outside, looks pretty quiet and it is. Tracking cold morning temperatures. Stepping out, youre going to start out with temperatures near freezing, north and east bay valleys. Then well see some sunshine. That will help us out a bit. The clouds increase. Best chance starting in the north bay, then the showers slide down the coast. Well be looking at better chances of rain coming in monday night. So thats another weak system. Right now looking at numbers in the low 40s to low 30s in parts of the north bay. 33 livermore, San Francisco in the 40s, looking at 42. Gilroy a pretty cool place at 37. Here is our roof camera. San francisco looking pretty good this morning. Numbers have been chilly. They have been below average in the 50s. Its been parts of the east coast, they have been warm and above average. Things changing there. Live doppler 7 looking at Clear Conditions here and then our next weak weather system. When they come from the north, they are pretty much moisture starved. We get them off of the west coast at Pineapple Express as we used to call it. They bring in more moisture. It looks like the system wednesday night into thursday could tap into more moisture but will be cold as well. Our High Surf Advisory continues until 3 00 today. Look at the current wave heights. 12 out there. That king tide in the city at 11 54. Another day where its pretty dangerous. Certainly dont turn your back to the ocean. Looks like well see a little sun to start out. Winds west to northwest throughout the day keeping that chill in the air. Despite the sun yesterday, the air definitely chilled out there. Thats going to be the situation again today. So starting out with some sun. About 10 00 weve got some clouds. They will increase throughout the day. But noontime maybe showers in the north bay. Not much. By later evening hours, you could see a shower perhaps in marin county, along the coast, san mateo coast. Then into monday morning its another cold start. A sunny start. Then by late in the day were talking after the evening rush we could see little bit more rain. But were going to put the totals together from today into tomorrow, and were talking just a few hundredths. Really just nuisance showers. Picking this up on monday night, looking at the possibility of spotty showers. Once again into your tuesday, certainly not probably more than. 2 out there for this second system. So looking at highs today around the bay, 55 downtown, 56 in fremont as well as vallejo, 57 san jose. Narrow range of highs in accuweather sevenday forecast. Cold start, increasing clouds. Maybe an isolated shower. Level one on storm impact scale for slightly stronger system tomorrow. Then we get a break on tuesday. Wednesday night into thursday. Maybe a half inch to inch of rain with this system. So overall wed need the rain. Were going to get some. Not as much as you would think for january. All right. Just a little bit every day. They are lending out bicycles to borrow at no cost as abc 7 News Reporter david found out its the new trend in the library of things. These 1500 bicycles are the latest example of where libraries are headed in the 21st century. They are becoming libraries of things. Starting this week adult patrons can borrow them free for the day. They come with Safety Accessories such as helmet, front and rear lights and a kit. Things being lent at the belmont library. They can borrow toolkit for energy efficiency, laptop, seeds cultivated by residents to plant in their gardens. Even a ukelele. Thats a wonderful instrument that most school kids are learning to use now. If the parents cant afford to buy them one, they can borrow one of ours. Librarians are hoping the library of things will attract one segment in particular, 20s to 30 something who usually dont visit until they have kids. Check out a bike, wifi hot spot, 3d printer and engage with all demographics especially those folks that might not come to a library otherwise. Libraries arent just book repositories anymore. Sometimes its a tangible thing you can feel in your hands. Library is a place we try to make that accessible to everybody. Ideas for what to hand out are voted by the staff. Those are funded up to the tune of 5,000 an idea. So its a system that really encourages creativity, innovation. San mateo county libraries went finefree about a year ago. Over that time, about 95 of people return their items, including books and things, on time. They are hoping the same thing will be true with the bikes. In belmont, david louie, abc 7 news. Very cool.
