Finals today and tomorrow at monta vista high, then christmas break begins. But this season doesnt feel so jolly. On december 6th, the principal sent home the first of two troubling letters. First one said we were getting reports of racial harassment. Then yesterday another letter went out. We had more incidents reported to us throughout the week. In one incident in an online chat room, a student called an africanamerican male she was talking with the nword. It doesnt surprise me based on whats the climate of the country right now. It stays with you. They are hurtful. Her son graduated last year. She credits School Officials with trying to improve things but theres always going to be hate, right . Theres always going to be hateful words. But i think its really a matter of how we address this as adults. Monta vista is not identifying the student involved in the incident but they say there are already programs from inside and outside the district to reduce racial animosity and increase understanding. Officials vow to keep trying and say there will be repercussions. There will be serious consequences. Reporter so the obvious question is why we keep seeing this at Monta Vista High School. I put that question to administrators. I was told its not just monta vista. Its everywhere. They dont have control of everywhere. Developing news from San Francisco state, police are searching several buildings after a bomb threat. Evacuated buildings include the library, student union, and residential building. The school of nursing was holding a Graduation Ceremony when they had to evacuate. Fortunately everything got done. The nursing pledge and all the Student Speakers and all the awards. And we were about ready to leave anyway, but yes, that did put a bit of a shadow over our celebration. There was also a bomb threat on the campus last month. The suspect in that incident was arrested on two felony counts of making criminal threats. Developing news in oakland. Take a look at the damage done to an Oakland Police car after he was rammed by a suspected armed robber. That crash happened when officers tried to stop the suspect along burkholder avenue. The collision sparked a grass fire. Firefighters put out that fire. Police also captured the suspected robber and recovered a gun. A homeowner in San Mateo County cant live in his home after a large oak tree fell on to it this morning. It happened in emerald hills. Ansar hassan explains the oak tree gave way due to the recent rain. Reporter the roots that ripped up show how massive this oak tree is. Fortunately nobody was injured but his house was severely damaged and its probably not livable right now. Reporter si seal says no one was injured and the damage was limited to the one house. But the house is red tagged and the homeowner cant come back until the tree is removed. One tree expert we spoke to says big trees falling is an ongoing problem throughout the bay area. Roots are weak because of the drought. The tree fills with water because of the rain which saturates. The root fall was muddy because of all the rain weve had the last month or so. So, the tree obviously fell over because of its own weight. Theres absolutely work that needs to be reporter jill and her family have lived on this street thats lined with huge trees since 1990. Todays crash has them taking a look around their yard to see what needs to be done. We were so concerned about fires for obvious reasons that hasnt really thought about this. Then after the rains came thought theres no fire risk at the moment, but now i see other risks. Reporter cal fire suggests to get trees trimmed and trees inspected. Were approaching the holidays. It would be a real shame to have a tragedy, something that could be preventable. And another large tree came toppling down in mill valley today. The tree is apparently 80 feet long. Public works Officials Say the tree was dead so the ground didnt directly cause it to come down but that probably didnt help of course. The tree came across panoramic highway forcing a closure between Stinson Beach and pan toll road. The there have tweeted that the road is open again. In the south bay an 11yearold girl is credited with saving their family from a fire Officials Say could have been caused by the Christmas Tree. No one was hurt thanks in large part to 11yearold berlin who saw the spoke and alerted her parents, grandmother, and sister.
