Developing news in the south bay, a oneman crime spree ends in a near fatal house fire. It started as a report of a stolen vehicle near lewis and center roads. This led to a foot chase and subsequent house fire on santee river court. Abc7 News Reporter amanda del castillo is there live with late details. Amanda . Reporter dan, the bizarre development has left a family without a home tonight and a suspect badly burned. It all ended in a home you see just behind me. Now, we are told the countys Regional Auto Theft Task force tried to stop this man, 29yearold Raul Anthony Rodriguez in a stolen vehicle around 4 00. Rodriguez then took off on foot and broke into a home on santee river court. Fortunately the homeowner was able to run out of the house without injury. The Santa Clara CountySheriffs Office say he refused to come out. Police helped with the barricaded man. The house caught fire with rodriguez inside. When the Fire Department arrived, they say the fire was starting to grow. By the time they got here, the house that was burning was fully engulfed that i could see from the street. We started our fire attack. We were able to find one person inside the home, bring him out and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Reporter captain says the suspect suffered plenty of pretty significant injuries, i should say, and was taken to a local Trauma Center for treatment. We want to get back to the older mugshot of rodriguez. They say he will be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting, delaying, obstructing an officer and residential burglary. Task force later learned rodriguez had a 25,000 felony warrant for burglary. We are told that he will be booked into the main jail once he is released from the hospital. In san jose, im amanda del castillo, abc7 news. Strange story there. Amanda, thank you. In the sth bay, a 2yearold girl will be glad to know is safe tonight a after police say her father stabbed her mother and then took the toddler from her home in san jose. It led to an amber alert. Good samaritans cornered the suspect in cambria 200 miles north of san jose. Victor magana locked his keys in the van. The daughter was insides. People surrounded him and they arrested him. They watched the whole thing happened. He went over and grabbed him pretty much in a choke hold or bear hug and held him until the police came. The girls mother was found slumped over in a car late last night not far from her home in san jose. She is hospitalized tonight and in critical condition. In the east bay, violence broke out during a sideshow over the weekend in oakland. Police today tweeted this photo of a car being towed away. The Department Says one person was cited. About 100 people were at this sideshow. This illegal road rally, officers say someone in the crowd fired shots and a Police Vehicle was damaged. The good news, no one was hurt. Building a better bay area means coming up with solutions, of course, to the homeless and hosing crisis that were facing. Some of which can be quite controversial, as you know. And you know what, its almost dne. The security cameras have been installed. The fence is up and the lights are actually on. Soon hundreds of Homeless People will be moving in, while others in the neighborhood feel like theyre being pushed out of the high rent district neighborhood. In the shadow of the bay bridge along the busy embarcadero, surrounded by Million Dollar condos is San Franciscos newly built Homeless Navigation Center. Well see what happens. Reporter and everyone will be watching as it does happen. The first residents are expected to move into the 200bed shelter by the end of the month. Worried that more criminal activity could happen. Reporter cheyenne who walks past the tent facility on the way to work is worried about this. In august a homeless man viciously assaulted a woman in front of her home. The water mark condos, which are right next door to the nav center. The victim told me by phone she moved out because of the attack and other water mark residents are considering the same. Im mainly worried about my kid picking up needles and syringes off the street. Reporter not all neighbors are opposed. From start to finish mike bradley thinks the process center is a win. Its not like we havent had a problem here before, so i think anything we can do to help out is probably a good idea. Reporter when debate over the center kicked off in spring, dueling gofundme sites launched. He ran a pro nav center site. He no longer lives in the city, but every San Francisco neighbor of neighborhood should have a shelter. All the money the city has and we cant get people a safe bed at night. Thats a basic human right. Reporter the center cost the city 4 million to build and mayor london breed who pushed hard for this center will be here along with other local officials tomorrow to tour this new facility. And in the north bay, Sonoma County officials tomorrow will announce Emergency Response measures for the homeless crisis in their community. Sky 7 was over an encampment earlier today on highway 12 near the Sonoma County fairgrounds. The press democrat report includes the short term indoor and outdoor shelters near the fairgrounds. Pg e has to have a deal in place that will get it out of bankruptcy protection by june 30th, so the clock is ticking.
