But an expert says it will be almost impossible to make enough changes to please Governor Newsom. On friday night the governor rejected the utilitys plan. He says it doesnt do enough to improve management or beef up safety enforcement procedures under the state wildfire statute enacted in july. A professor the Bankruptcy Law at uc hastings says right now the company is focused on survival. It is fair for Governor Newsom to criticize the company and to criticize this plan. He seems to be suggesting that he wants the right, if pg e leaves bankruptcy and is not successful, to perhaps seize its assets and maybe give them to local entities although thats not clear. Newsoms approval isnt legally required for the bankruptcy but his cooperation will be needed to tap into that state fund to settle with fire victims. In a statement, pg e says it believes the plan complies with the law and it will work to resolve any issues. Sues. Sues. Dungeness crab season began.
