This morning we are getting reaction to the pg e settlement from some victims who suffered losses in the Northern California wildfires. Reporter denny is a single father raising three kids and trying to rebuild after losing everything in the north bay fires. He has concerns with the current 13 13. 5 billion settlement. It sounds very good, big number, but we dont know how many people and how it breaks down. Reporter lawyers from the three firms representing the victims say pg e will pay 13. 5 billion, half in cash, half in stock. Lawyer richard bridgeford says once pg e emerges from bankruptcy, victims will be given stock, clear of past pg e liabilities. Theyre drawing upon the future value of pg e to compensate the victims. They will be generating billion of dollars in income as a public monopoly. The settlement has the support of Governor Newsom but has to be signed off by a bankruptcy judge which can take months. If approved the lawyers think victims will start being paid next year. The most important thing for everybody to know is when theyre going to have a check its going to go into their bank account and that should be the Fourth Quarter of next year. Some victims are concerned that the settlement isnt enough to cover individual losses, but and dust, who lost his house in the tubbs fire, is just happy theres even a settlement.
