In fact, in parts of massachusetts, we have already seen between yesterday and today already a foot of snow. This is the famous conley square, this is packed with commuters, not today, so much of the northeast seeing whiteout conditions. This morning, state of emergency as a massive snowstorm slams the northeast. The new york state thruway closing all lanes overnight after a truck and bus carrying 30 passengers collided in columbia county. New York State Police say all passengers declined medical attention when emergency crews arrived on scene. Governor cuomo mandating a state of emergency in seven new york counties. Were also going to call out 300 National Guardsmen to be deployed in these seven counties where we need the most assistance. Now this coast to coast storm is a noreaster and were seeing eastern new england get peppered with snow. Lets talk about this, boston, you could see another two to four inches of snow. Gio mentioned the winds, 40mileperhour winds there, new york city will see gusts as well. For the most part the snow is over here in new york city and it will be over in boston after lunchtime but winding up in maine with snows continuing through tonight. As the impeachment showdown plays out, President Trump is in london for a highstakes nato summit preparing to meet with the queen and our allies, and tensions are running high over brexit and a possible trade war between the u. The president kicked off his meetings here in london with an impromptu freewheeling press conference and some harsh words aimed at president macron. This morning, the president turned what was supposed to be a quick photoop with the head of nato into a nearly hourlong press conference. Asked about recent comments by french president macron that nato is becoming brain dead, he hit back hard. Very, very nasty statement to essentially 28 including them, 28 countries. You just cant go around making statements like that about nato. Its very disrespectful. Reporter but later in a face to face meeting with macron, the president struck a more diplomatic tone. We have done a lot of good things together as partners. Our countries have been partners in many good ventures. Reporter in the past, President Trump has boasted of his warm relationship with macron and has had his own harsh words towards nato. Nato is obsolete, its old, its fat and sloppy. Reporter the Trump Administration is now threatening tariffs of up to 100 worth of french imports including wine, cheese and handbags. Theyre starting to tax other peoples products, so, therefore, were going to tax them. Reporter the new tariffs are retaliation against new french taxes targeting u. S. Tech Companies Like apple and google. Im not in love with those companies. I want to tax those companies. Theyre not going to be taxed by france. If anyone is going to take advantage of the American Companies its going to be us. Reporter as President Trump takes the world stage, the drive by House Democrats with impeachment is clearly on his mind. Does it cast a cloud . Well if it does, then the democrats have done great disservice to the country. Reporter for his part, macron was diplomatic, too. Regarding the threat of a trade war, the president referred to it as a minor dispute and predicted a rosy outcome. George. George. Jon, thanks very much. It is a critical day for impeachment on capitol hill. The House Intelligence Committee will release its report making the case against President Trump before sending it to the House Judiciary Committee before their first hearings tomorrow. Our senior Congressional Correspondent mary bruce tracking the latest on capitol hill. Good morning, mary. Reporter good morning. Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee this morning are putting the finishing touches on this report that is likely to be the basis for their impeachment case against the president. The public will get a look at it later today. We are told its roughly 175 pages and is likely to conclude that the president abused his power by pressuring ukraine to investigate his rivals to try and get an advantage in the 2020 election. It is also likely to outline evidence of obstruction which democrats have said is overwhelming, george. Mary, ahead of this weve seen the first republican prebuttal overnight also and it defends the president , holds the line with the president even though its at odds with much of the witness testimony. Reporter yeah, george, republicans are picking over this same evidence to try to defend the president. They have released their own report which is dismissing much of the witness testimony so far as hearsay and presumption. They argue that the president was acting out of valid concerns in ukraine and they note that theres no specific evidence that the president was trying to benefit himself in the 2020 election. Democratic chairman adam schiff though not surprisingly says the republicans are ignoring much of the evidence. He has said that the republican report is, quote, intended for an audience of one. That one person being the president. And mary, phase two begins tomorrow in the House Judiciary Committee. That first hearing could be fiery. Reporter it could be fiery but it is also expected to be a bit of a civics lesson on impeachment. The witnesses are all legal scholars. This could be quite feisty. This hearing and this committee including some of the president s fiercest defenders. They are ready for a fight here tomorrow. In fact, george, both sides are holding mock hearings here later today. The 95yearold former president is back in the hospital this morning to treat an infection just days after a separate procedure on his brain. We should point out that hes being treated at his local hospital, the hospital closest to his home. For more serious issues and Serious Health issues, hes usually treated at Emory University hospital in atlanta. About three hours to the north of here. In a statement his spokesperson says that he was admitted here this past weekend to treat a uti. They say, quote, hes feeling better and looks forward to returning home soon. Last week doctors at emory in atlanta sent him home to enjoy thanksgiving dinner after a risky surgery to reduce pressure from blood that built up over his brain after a number of recent falls at his home. After one of those falls that he suffered he actually suffered a black eye, but continued true to form to nashville where he then helped build houses for habitat for humanity. Now to new orleans and the search for the gunman who wounded ten people on a crowded street in the french quarter. Police are investigating and theres dramatic new Surveillance Video that youre seeing showing the moment the shooting breaks out. Victor oquendo is there in new orleans with more. Police have been poring over that Surveillance Video and they now believe the people responsible are from louisiana but somewhere outside new orleans and this all started with some kind of feud. Take a look at that video. It looks like someone pulled out a gun and started firing. Ten victims total. Five men, five women. The youngest victim just 16 years old. All but one right now in stable condition. This happened hours after a big football game. A weapon was recovered from the scene. So far no arrest. Maxwell previously denied the allegations and has not been charged with any crime. That made me sick. I just didnt expect it from royalty. I didnt expect it from someone that people look up to and admire, you know, in the royal family. It was a really scary time in my life. I had just been abused by a member of a royal family. I couldnt comprehend how in the highest levels of the government and powerful people were allowing this to happen, not only allowing it to happen but participating in it. Reporter giuffre also blasting andrews suggestion that this nowinfamous photo of the two of them which she says was taken by epstein was faked. The people on the inside are going to keep coming up with these ridiculous excuses. He knows what happened. I know what happened and theres only one of us telling the truth and i know thats me. Reporter now, Prince Andrew has already been forced to step back from his royal duties after his own interview was so badly received. Reporter this morning, chicagos top cop out of a job fired just days after an Inspector General report found what mayor Lori Lightfoot calls a series of ethical lapses. Im announcing that i terminated Eddie Johnsons employment as superintendent of the Chicago Police department for cause effective immediately. Reporter lightfoot says the new report which included Video Evidence found johnson lied after an incident in october when officers found him in a parked Police Vehicle asleep at the wheel. He intentionally misled the people of chicago and he intentionally misled me. Reporter at the time, during a press conference, johnson claimed he had not taken his Blood Pressure medication. The mayor declined to be more specific about the videotaped evidence hinting it could be hurtful to johnsons family. We require a leader whose actions reflect the virtues of integrity, honor, and legitimacy, the touchstones of what it takes to have the privilege of being a Chicago Police officer. Reporter johnson in the spotlight earlier this year during the Jussie Smollett case, accusing the actor of lying to his officers. Chicagos Violent Crime rate dropped under johnson. Last month with the mayor by his side he unexpectedly announced he was retiring. The mayor now regretting that appearance. Reporter this morning nbc has reportedly launched an internal investigation after reports that Actress Gabrielle Union was fired from the show, americas got talent, after complaining of racism and other onset issues. What we all just witnessed here tonight was nothing short of absolute brilliance. Reporter the investigation comes after variety magazine released a report claiming union had complained of a toxic culture at the show. Insiders say the company labeled union as difficult. Nbc and a thirdparty counselor that theyve hired will attempt to meet with gabrielle and hear her specific grievances. Once that happens, i think that there is a very good chance that nbc will launch a formal investigation. Reporter according to variety, the insider says union is set to meet with nbc to gather information about the complaints, some including racially insensitive comments and excessive criticism about her appearance. The Screen Actors Guild is also looking into the allegation saying we take issues of Workplace Health and safety very seriously. One specific incident involves former latenight host jay leno reportedly making a racially insensitive joke in front of four other staffers. On his radio show, former americas got talent host, howard stern, was critical of simon cowell, the shows creator and judge, over his decision to fire union and her cohost, julianne hough. She is of course beloved for her character cookie and now many fans are finding taraji p. Hensons reallife frank talk refreshingly honest and helpful. Shes really opening up and quite vocal about her struggle with what she calls the dark place and how she deals with it. She may play one tough cookie and she knows what men want. But off screen taraji p. Henson says dont let the strong black woman facade fool you. Sometimes the weight is just too much to put on that facade like youre strong all the time. Its exactly what it is, a facade. Thats whack. Reporter the 49yearold actress gracing the digital cover of self and opening up like never before, telling the magazine about her struggles with Mental Health and going through menopause. I struggle with depression and anxiety. I realized that about two years ago. I noticed the mood swings like you know one day id be up, the next day id be down. Reporter henson at first she didnt realize some of those mood swings could be related to menopause saying, quote, i would get so low, really, really low, beaten like never before. She said that she would usually be the life of the party but she wouldnt want to go out and see her friends and her friends started noticing a change in her behavior. With her anxiety she would get heart palpitations and she really understood that it was more than yoga and meditation could fix. Reporter the actress learned how to manage those highs and lows with regular checkins with her therapist and herself. I talk to myself. I think more people need to talk to themselves because you work things out. Reporter now through her nonprofit, the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation named after her father, henson is working to help others struggling with Mental Health issues especially young children. Well, henson says sometimes she calls on her friends to pull her out of the dark place she sometimes finds herself in. She says having a therapist is also so important, and for the many people who suffer from depression and anxiety i imagine that her honesty is going to be so helpful to them. So candid about it. Your first day of shooting with the wonderful Eddie Redmayne who youve worked with before, it didnt end like it was supposed to exactly. Can you tell everybody about that. No, we had we had a bit of a bumpy ride, so to speak. It was our very first day shooting. We took the balloon up. They were doing a Helicopter Shot of the whole sequence. It was a part of this sequence youre seeing now. The balloon took off. It was all fine until suddenly we hit a load of trees. Oh. Eddie and i are holding hands, bracing ourselves as we hit the ground at this incredible speed. The basket bounces, eddie and i bounce to the back. I think that ive broken my back because i hear this creek of the basket. And then we are just sort of lying there slightly thinking we might be paralyzed but luckily we were fine. And you went back the next day. Yes. Back at work 5 00 a. M. The next day. And thats the first scene. Thats the first day and the first scene. Wow. [ applause ] i can only imagine everybody standing around going, whats happening . Would you like to see a little snippet . [ cheers ] there you go. Oh. Whoo youre incredibly late. What kind of training did you have to do . Well, actually i did a lot of i worked closely with an acrobat with a woman called deb richards who had worked with Cirque Du Soleil so i was learning how to do trapeze, learning how to do silk work and that was a good sort of three or four months before we started shooting. How about dear eddie, to be reunited with him again in the film, what was that like . It was fantastic. We are such great friends. We built so much trust from doing theory of everything and we both we push each other. We care about what we do and have a good gossip in between scenes which is lovely but it was fantastic. You didnt know when you first got the script that he was going to be doing it . Initially, no, i first read it and then knowing that eddie was interested as well made it so much more appealing because it felt as though we could build on what we had done in theory of everything. Can we show everybody your reaction. I mean, you just broke down. It was a dream that you had. Yeah. And then with this one, your reaction has been just its kind of like youre still in the moment. Morocco, hong kong, moscow, pretty much all over the world, pakistan, and its an exciting book. Yeah, it is. It is. [ applause ] and she cant she cant reveal even to her husband or anybody for 20 years after she for 20 years she has to hole the secret. Actually how that works and what inspired the book is that some of my friends mothers and grandmothers as they passed away my friends would, you know, go through their things and they discovered machine guns in trunks and three of my friends discovered that their mothers had been major spies during the war. Wow. Can you imagine . I thought it was really exciting so it inspired the book. [ applause ] so, were among friends. Were you a spy . No, but i think it would be terrific. You wouldnt tell us even if you were. But no, no, no. You are a thank you for continuing to share your gift with the world like this. [ applause ] you write multiple books at a time. How do you do that . I have no idea. Its got to be a form of insanity of some kind. [ laughter ] but i work on one at a time. I cant sort of switch chapters. I think twice i made a mistake and put a character in the wrong book. I work at 4 00 in the morning and sometimes i work all night and suddenly the person was in the wrong book. Its like, oops. I have to get you back over here. [ laughter ] but i work on a lot in different stages and it takes a long time to write one of them. So i juggle. Its kind of like a juggling act. And i feel very lucky and very blessed that i enjoy what i do and that you all read it and im super grateful to you. [ applause ] super grateful to you. But it was very sweet because, you know, the young author that we just had here told me walking out and she was so excited to meet you and her mother talked about how shes read many of your books. I know. Very nice. You relate to men, women. Theres something about your writing, danielle.
