Bullets fly on grand avenue in oakland. A store owner chases robbers and gets in a shootout. One of the bullets hits an innocent bystander in his own home. Two robbers are now in a dramatic botched robbery. Good evening. Im dan ashley. And im kristen sze. This all began at the Northern California Coin Exchange on one of oaklands busiest streets. Liz kreutz has the story. This all started right here at the Coin Exchange on grand avenue. Two masked men left here with 60,000 worth in coins. They ran across the street and up this hill, only to be slowed for two unexpected reasons, including the own were a gun. Two guys came in, one after the other. They both had guns. They were pointing them at me. And they told me to get down on the floor, which i did. And then they were each had a bag and they were dumping the cases and the safes. And loaded everything up and were trying to get out. I told them i had to buzz them out. I got up, said a few curse words. I grabbed my gun. I went outside and i saw them walking up the hill. And so i followed after them. He believes the men were slowed down by the 100pound bag of coins they were attempting to carry away. When the men saw him copping after them, thats when gunfire was exchanged. Stray bullets hit a car and then someone in their home. There were other family members in the home during this time, and they were not injured. So at this time we only have one report of a person being injured. Police say whos bullet hit that person is still under investigation. You must be threat pretty shaken. Hairy deal. Yeah, it is. And you can see the bullet hole in the window. Police say the person who was shot is in stable condition. A neighbor tells us she saw him giving a thumbsup to his children as he was being taken to the hospital. As for the robbers, they did drop the bag of coins as they escaped, but they have not been arrested. Liz kreutz, abc7 news. Police in union city are seeking help from the public as they investigate why two boys ages 11 and 14 were shot to death in a van early saturda morning. Abc7 News Reporter david louie talked to one of the boys father. Disbelief grows that two boys could be shot and killed many this parking lot outside an elementary school. Friends and classmates of the 11yearold and the 14yearold have been paying their respects at a growing memorial lined with canned. S. The boys parents have asked police not to identify them, so were not showing their photos and names posted on ooh sign. No one seems to know why the boys were at the schoolyard inside this van shortly after 1 00 a. M. On saturday, but that doesnt temper the anger of longtime residents. If these kids were out, there was a reason, or whatever reason it was, it doesnt give the killer the right to shoot at anybody because theyre outside at the wrong time. A man at the memorial identified himself as the father of the 14yearold. He had little to say about the incident. Police say there is no Gang Activity in the decoto district, but they havent ruled out a possible gang connection. A childhood friend said the older boy enjoyed playing soccer and football and was always cheerful. With no leads, police are hoping someone has a clue why the boys were killed. Were hoping that open lines of communication, our trust with our community, our ability to communicate with people in that neighborhood is going to help us to do that. Were in this together. The father of the 14yearold maintains his composure through most of my conversation with him, except at one point he did raise his voice when he asked rhetorically do you know how difficult its going to be to spend thanksgiving alone. In union city, david louie, abc7 news. Guns were used in over 67 of murders involving teens. Thats according to an analysis of state figures by tthe sacramento bee. Data from the California Department of justice show roughly 8600 californians under age 18 were murdered between 1987 and 2016. More than 100 children are still murdered in california each year. Homicides involving children peaked during Gang Violence in the early 1990s. Gang violence is the most common motive in the murders of young people. In sonoma county, investigators are looking into what started a fire that badly damaged a 150yearold church. The fire at the church of christ on covey road and forestville was reported about 6 15 this morning. You can see the debris, including a number of damaged bibles and a gutted sanctuary. The fire chief says the fire appeared to have started close to the center of the church. He says its not clear whether the building can be saved. Half of the building burned while the other half has smoke and heat and water damage. Here is another view of the fire from inside the forestville fire truck as crews arrived on the scene. You can see it was fully involved. Because the fire involved a church, the federal bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms is involved. New developments with a Navigation Center that San Francisco wants to build near the embarcadero. Its been quite controversial. A judge has blocked the effort to stop construction, and the city says it is planning to move forward with the project. The center itself is going to be built on parking lot off bryant street. It generated considerable backlash after a homeless man attacked a woman outside her Apartment Building not far away from this location. Happening now, there are pretty significant delays for muni Metro Service throughout San Francisco. A wire came down earlier today at the embarcadero and fulsome street. That stopped Metro Service at the embarcadero station. Riders along the station had to take bart or buses instead. The delays continue. On the peninsula, Home Security camera captured images of a Mountain Lion roaming around a neighborhood. Take a look for yourself. This Close Encounter happened just after 6 00 a. M. This morning in a driveway at heathcliff and Inverness Drive in the westview neighborhood. The California Department of fish and wildlife says if you happen to see a cougar, do not run. Those gusty winds may take down trees, power lines cause power outages. Wave heights are already copping up. High surf advisory issued for 7 00 p. M. Tomorrow until 3 00 p. M. Wednesday. During our most recent check, there were more than 25,000 complaints about poop to the city. That means were on track for 7 jump from last year. The dirtiest neighborhoods . The tenderloin followed by south of market and the mission. Abc7 News Reporter luz pena is here now with a fight over the plans to expand the citys cleanup of the problem. If you live in San Francisco, chances are youve seen, stepped on or reported to public works feces around your neighborhood. All these 311 reports show this is an everyday problem. People are just fed up, frustrated and infuriated by the filth on our streets, the poop on our streets. For the summer, a Pilot Program was approved. Three public bathrooms known as pit stops were kept open for 24 hours. Thee bathrooms are equipped with two on duty attendants during the overnight hours for safety. Here is the map of where the 24hour bathrooms are located. The first on market and castro. The second on eddy street and jones. The third son sixth and jesse street. Now according to public works, during the three months of this Pilot Program, the numbers of clean and requests went down around these three areas. The results of this program show that roughly 25 of all flushes took place during the nighttime hours. Supervisor matt heaney says thats enough proof that more 24hour bathrooms are necessary. Each of them had over 3,000 uses at nighttime for over 10,000 in all three. We are asking for at least another ten of these bathrooms to be open 24 hours. Today the Mayors Office announced that they will continue the Pilot Program until the next fiscal year, and added the early results telephone mayors pilot are promising, which is why she is using existing funding to keep these 24hour pit stops open and while shell continue to push for funding to continue building on this progress in the next budget cycle. But funding ten extra bathrooms to remain open for 24 hours will cost roughly 3 million a year, something that the Mayors Office says is now part of this years budget. About 9500 cases of breakstones cottage cheese are being recalled after a customer found a piece of red plastic in a container. All three of the recalled batches have a use by date of december 10th, 2019. Plastic contamination has led to a recall of cheese nips. The recall covers 11 ounce boxes of the cheese crackers that have a best by date of may 18th, 19th, or 20th of next year. Airlines are waiving change fees for some holiday travelers due to an upcoming round of weather. Denver is expected to be hard so several airlines are louing flyers flying to or through Denver International to change for free. Offers include american, delta, southwest, and united. Change fees with will be waived for people flying between tomorrow and friday. Mcdonalds will pay 26 million to settle a class action wage lawsuit filed by california employees. Police in louisiana say a fivepound chihuahua managed to put an suv in reverse, sending the vehicle rolling into oncoming traffic outside a gas station in slidell. Check this outhe driver ran vehicle, but couldnt stop it and falls over. Its a miracle no one was seriously hurt. Thats the good news. The chihuahua was able to put the car in gear because of a mechanical issue that allowed the transmission to change gears without the brake being pressed. The chihuahua weighs nothing. No force.
