The biggest story is from the governors race in the red state of kentucky where Democrat Andy beshear declared victory over the incumbent Republican Matt Bevin even though analysts say the race is too close to call. President trump who won kentucky by 30 points in 2016 threw his support behind bevin at a rally monday. Democrats say this race proves their momentum nationwide. I havent had an opportunity yet to speak to Governor Bevin but my expectation is that he will honor he will honor the election that was held tonight, that he will help us make this transition, and i tell you what, we will be ready for that first day in office and i look forward to it. Nod a we are not conceding this race by any stretch. Heres the thing, understand this, though. Understand this. We want the process to be followed and there is a process. Bevin would need to win Court Approval for a full recount. Meanwhile responding to the results president Trumps Campaign said the president s rally monday helped bevin finish stronger than expected and helped five other kentucky republicans win their races. It was a good night for democrats in virginia. They won control of both houses in the state legislature. That means virginia will be under complete democratic control for the first time in 25 years. But good news for republicans in mississippi. Lieutenant governor tate reeves will take over the Governors Mansion there and easily defeated his democratic challenger. We turn to the other big story this morning, the massacre in mexico. An American Family slaughtered on the way to a wedding. This morning new stories of survival are emerging. Nine members of the same family were ambushed and killed just across the border from arizona. A quick thinking teenager is now being credited for saving several of his siblings hiding them in bushes along the road. The group was traveling by caravan picking up family members for a wedding when they were attacked by a drug cartel in an apparent case of mistaken identity. Nine members of the mormon family were killed including three mothers and six of their children. Two of them were twin infants. This morning relatives say a 7monthold baby named faith is alive thanks to a final selfless act by her mother. I dont know if christina in her last moments of life saved her daughter by laying her on the floorboard. Baby faith was found alive hours after the attack. They think that maybe the mother tried to put the child like on the floor under the seat in some way to save her life. Reporter meanwhile a 13yearold boy is credited with saving several members of the family. Relatives say the teen hid six of his siblings after their mother was shot and killed and then walked 14 mile foss get help. He basically saw that cartel shooting. There were like 60 people shooting at them from all over the mountains around and the little kid decided to keep the kids away in the bushes. Reporter mexican Officials Say the womens three suvs may have been mistaken by rival drug gangs. The family is part of a religious settlement in sonora state known for its drug violence and violent crime. Abcs tom llamas is in mexico. His wife shot multiple types times in their home nearly six years ago. Now his lawyers are arguing what he did was involuntary. This morning, an unusual murder trial is under way in texas. A man who blames his sleepwalking for the death of his wife. In december 2013 Raymond Lazarine said he sauled his wife and said he had just dreamed he shot and killed his wife of 35 years. But it wasnt a dream. He admits he shot her half a dozen times and claims it was involuntary on account that he was asleep. There are other witnesses over there that have seen the manifestation of his sleep disorder and we thought that would be important for the jury to know. Reporter taking the stand for the defense four men who each at one point had been incarcerated with lazarine since the murder and talked about his odd sleeping behavior. How he would often walk in his sleep both day and night. Also on the stand, a sleep expert who gave him two sleep tests in 2015. He did have a lot of movement in rem. In rem youre not supposed to move. Youre supposed to be paralyzed. Reporter as for the prosecution they called debrahs oldest daughter to the stand and she described lazarine as a heavy drinker and in damaging testimony for the defense, she said lazarine had threatened to kill her mother in the past. More testimony is scheduled today and, if convicted, lazarine could face life in prison. A sheriffs deputy is charged with child abuse after this video showed him grabbing a 15yearold girl by the neck and slamming her to the ground. Willard miller has been suspended without pay. The incident came after the girl appeared to kick him. It happened at a school for children with emotional and behavioral issues. A pennsylvania woman has been arrested accused of falsely claiming she had cancer and collecting more than 10,000 in donations from good samaritans. Police say the woman calling herself Jessica Cornell used facebook and a fundraising site and went on podcasts to tell her story, but thats when something didnt add up.
