Were going to go to washington now where the impeachment showdown has entered a few phase. It was a Party Line Vote and our brand new poll reflects that divide, a country split down the middle. 49 in favor of removing President Trump, 47 opposed. The president s Approval Rating stable but low at 38 and one possible red flag for trump his job approval among republicans now at an alltime low of 74 down from an alltime high of 87 in july. One big question, what impact will this new public phase of the impeachment investigation have on Public Opinion after that house vote to set the rules for the inquiry. Our Senior National correspondent terry moran is on capitol hill. Terry, President Trump now the fourth president in American History to face this kind of inquiry. Reporter thats right, george. He joins andrew johnson, Richard Nixon and bill clinton and he doesnt like it. President trump has called impeachment a dirty, filthy, disgusting word, so this is a historic step but as you point out, its one that was taken almost entirely along partisan lines. With the bang of that gavel, the impeachment of President Trump has moved into a new phase. All but two House Democrats voting to formally approve the impeachment inquiry setting the stage and the rules for open hearings. When we move into open session, both parties will have an equal opportunity to question any witnesses that are called. Reporter for weeks, republicans demanded a full house vote on impeachment and they got it but afterwards they still cried foul calling the new process unfair. If the chair says they dont like the witness, the witnesses dont come forward. They allow the president to have Legal Counsel in the room unless the chair decides that they dont want the president s Legal Counsel in the room. Reporter overnight speaker of the house, nancy pelosi, defended the process. You would have thought that the republicans would all vote for it because it gave them more rights than we ever received in any of the other impeachment proceedings. Reporter President Trump slammed the vote claiming again he did nothing wrong on the phone call with ukraines president that sparked the inquiry. When you know the line is crowded with people listening, intelligence agencies, military people, theyre all listening. Would i Say Something inappropriate . Im supposed to be a they even say a very smart person, right . I dont think i would be a i dont think i would be doing that. Reporter several witnesses testified they were alarmed by what the president said and one witness who was listening, colonel alexander vindman, a decorated combat veteran, he was so concerned he alerted his superior. The president s republican allies vowing theyll keep defending him. Will you all go on the record and say that the president did nothing inappropriate . Very clear yes. Yes. Reporter so with this impeachment inquiry vote, it moves to a new phase. This is a new chapter but its pretty clear from that, george, politics in washington hasnt changed at this time. Boy, no question about that. You compare it to bill clintons impeachment 20 years ago, president clintons Approval Rating at the time was higher than President Trumps. The big question now what impact will these public hearings have . Reporter well, evidence will matter. Theres no question the polls do show that the public wants to hear more, but these are different times, hyper partisan times, and right now the battle lines are formed and they are solid and unmoving. Certainly seem to be. Okay, terry, thanks very much. Michael. Thank you, george. The president is also making headlines overnight with a surprise announcement saying hes moving. The born and bred new yorker is breaking up with his home state, officially declaring himself a florida resident now, claiming he was treated very badly by political leaders in new york. Gio benitez is outside his home at trump tower with more. Good morning to you, gio. Reporter hey, michael, good morning. Yeah, hes called the big apple home for decades. His penthouse apartment right here at trump tower, the tleep floors, but this morning the president says hes headed to florida. Overnight President Trump leaving new york city behind changing his primary residence from manhattan where his name is emblazoned on skyscrapers to palm beach, florida, home to his maralago resort. We encourage other states to follow floridas example. Theyve done a great job right here. Reporter the president tweeting, i pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year. I have been treated very badly by the political leaders of both the city and state. Few have been treated worse. But for now, thats impossible to confirm since he still refuses to release his tax returns. His new home state also happens to be a swing state. It was just this june when the president launched his 2020 Reelection Campaign in florida. I stand before you to officially launch my campaign for a second term as president of the United States. Reporter until now donald trump and new york city have gone hand in hand. Born in queens, trump has been a pop culture staple in his hometown, becoming a tabloid celebrity. The people i get along with as i walk down the street, the taxicab drivers are yelling and construction workers, i seem to do well with those folks. Reporter befriending then mayor Rudy Giuliani and popping up on the big screen in movies set in the city. Down the hall and to the left. Reporter but now decades later [ crowd chanting ] reporter many new yorkers seem to have turned on the man once simply known as the donald. Overnight, new yorks Governor Andrew Cuomo tweeting, good riddance. Its not like he paid taxes here anyway. Hes all yours, florida. And while were just learning about this now, records obtained by abc news actually show that the president officially made this change about four weeks ago. Cecilia. Yeah, gio, also worth noting theres no inheritance tax or income tax in florida either. Okay, thank you. We turn to the latest on isis in the wake of the death of Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi. The terror group is naming a new leader, and this morning, audio recordings now show isis is issuing a new threat, warning americans not to be happy or arrogant. Our senior Foreign Correspondent ian pannell is there with more. Good morning, ian. Reporter yeah, good morning, cecilia. Thats right. Overnight a new isis leader was announced just days after Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi blew himself up as a Delta Force Commando has closed in. In a newly released audio message isis for the first time acknowledging al baghdadis death, and naming a new leader, Abu Ibrahim Al hashimi al quraishi. Although little is known about him, that is unlikely to be his actual birth name. Later in that same message the group threatening the United States and warning dont be too happy or arrogant, insulting the u. S. As the joke of nations. While u. S. Military commanders say the fight against isis is far from over, they insist theyre ready for whatever comes next. I can tell you that underscores the threat weve heard overnight, isis attacks in two different areas here in iraq. George. Tense time, okay, ian, thank you very much. Right now were going to turn to the fiery farewell from congresswoman katie hill. In the face of an ethics investigation into her relation with a staffer, the california democrat is resigning today with a blast of what she calls a double standard in washington. Linsey davis is here with the story. Good morning, linsey. Reporter good morning, george. Hills last speech to the house was a heartfelt apology, solemn promise to fight the cyber exploitation of women and fiery rebuke of the double standards faced by females by male public officials. Her overriding message, while she is stepping down, she will not be silenced. Democratic representative katie hill once a rising star in the Democratic Party addressing the floor of the house in an emotional final speech after giving up her congressional seat amid an ethics scandal. Apologizing to her supporters but also exposing what she calls a double standard. I wanted to show young people, queer people, working people, imperfect people that they belong here because this is the peoples house. I fell short of that and im sorry. Reporter the 32yearolds resignation comes less than a year after she took office amid allegations she engaged in an improper relationship with one over her congressional staffers which house rules forbid. Rumors of the allegations began as nude photos of hill were leaked online. Hill who was in the midst of a nasty divorce has accused her husband, kenny heslep, of leaking the photos in an act of revenge porn. Heslep hasnt commented publicly but his father tells abc news as far as he knows his son had no role in distributing the photos and his father also spoke to buzzfeed news, telling the outlet that his son claimed his computer was hacked shortly before those photos were published online. I no longer want to be used as a bargaining chip. Im leaving because i didnt want to be peddled by papers and blogs and websites used by shameless operatives for the dirtiest gutter politics that ive ever seen. Reporter while hill denies engaging in an improper affair while in congress, she does admit to a sexual relationship with a Campaign Staffer before being sworn into office. She says in part shes leaving because of a deep abuse of power and a double standard in washington. We have an entire culture that has to change and we see it in stark clarity today. The forces of revenge by a bitter, jealous man cyberexploitation and sexual shaming have combined to push a young woman out of power and say that she doesnt belong here. Reporter hill has since vowed to battle revenge porn and recently hired powerhouse new york attorney, carrie goldberg, the revenge porn warrior to determine who should be prosecuted for the published photos. In her last act in congress she voted to move forward on the impeachment inquiry of President Trump. So the fight goes on to create the change that every woman and girl in in country deserves. Reporter House Speaker nancy pelosi said that shes sad hill is leaving and praised her as an Outstanding Young public servant. Pelosi also added its shameful shes been exposed to public humiliation by way of cyberexploitation and went on to caution everyone that they may also be subjected to that so to be careful, george. Okay, thanks very much. Lets bring in our senior legal analyst sunny hostin for more on this. We saw the former congresswoman hires a lawyer, wants Legal Recourse against those who leaked the pictures. Does she have options . She does have some options. 46 states and d. C. , they have banned this sort of revenge porn and but the problem is, who do you prosecute . Do you prosecute the person that uploaded it . Do you prosecute the companies that published it like red state, like daily mail . How do you prosecute a publication . Thats more of a civil penalty. And then how do you go about it . Where was it uploaded . When did she find out about it . There is no federal revenge porn law. There have been efforts to pass that, but it doesnt exist. Theres this patchwork of state laws and thats a little bit difficult. The law is often very slow to catch up with technology, unfortunately. And adding to the difficulty in this, its really now a case of he said she said, between hill and her husband . How difficult does that make this to prove . I think its not as difficult as some people think because again, theres sort of a technology trail so to speak, but her husbands father is saying, no, he didnt upload it. Hes saying his computer was hacked which is often the defense here, but i think that part of the is rather its going to be a little easier than people think. What about the bigger issue of whether katie hill is a victim of a double standard in washington . Yeah, i think there are two different issues. Theres sort of the revenge porn issue which i think we can all agree is wrong. You dont do that if theres this picture taken, you dont disseminate it to the public, a picture taken privately whether consensual or nonconsensual. And theres the issue of having a consensual relationship with someone when you were running for Public Office or a relationship with someone while you were in office. So i think those are two separate issues. And those questions about resignation and when people decide to leave office, theyre political in the end, not legal. Exactly, i think. Thanks very much. Thank you. We turn to an urgent 911 call for help that never arrived. A utah woman is suing saying despite four calls to 911, a dispatcher never sent police while she and her sister were facing a Home Invasion. Now theyre blaming the emergency Software System and amy is here with more on this story. Good morning, amy. Reporter yeah. Good morning, guys. This is disturbing and frankly pretty scary. Breann lasley says the Emergency Response system that should have rushed to send her help ended up nearly costing her her life. Hes stabbing my sister help. Reporter Breann Lasley and her sister were terrified when an exconvict broke into their arm and began to attack them. I could see his left hand strangling my sister up against the wall, but her head had just gone through from him kickin her down the stairs. He beat us both. Reporter the women say they called 911 four times while trying to fight off the attacker. Help us help us, please. What do you want . Hello . Ill give you anything you want. What do you want . Hello . Reporter lasley says despite the calls being recorded, police were never dispatched to the home. It was just this feeling of hopelessness. There was nothing i could do. Reporter this morning lasley says shes suing utah emergency dispatch company, priority dispatch for gross negligence claiming the Company Created a technological monster. Stop it. Stop it, please. Reporter according to the suit police were never dispatched to the home because the companys emergency Software System requires 911 dispatchers to ask a series of scripted prompts and questions before sending police to the scene. But to be able to call 911 and not have help sent is terrible. Its not just a disservice to the community and puts the community at risk. It literally put my life in danger. Reporter the nightmare only ended after an officer at a nearby home heard one of the sisters cries for help, entering the home and shooting the assailant. The additional trauma of not being able to trust a 911 call in that type of situation has been lifealtering. Its completely changed my life and added so much trauma and difficulty to the entire situation. Reporter in a statement priority dispatch corp, the company that makes the 911 software used by dispatchers, says we all recognize this is an unfortunate situation. At the same time our system does not dispatch Police Officers, nor can it. From our review of the 911 calls, it is apparent our system was never used. Now, priority dispatch also added that if the call had proceeded to the point that proqa would have been used, it would have recommended an officer be dispatched to the scene. But Breann Lasley maintains that despite her and her sister doing all the right things they absolutely could have lost their lives and when you hear those phone calls and someone is stabbing me, its kind it blows your mind to think an officer wouldnt be called when someone hears that immediately. Plea for help, yeah. Its crazy. An infuriating story. Thank you. We will switch gears. Coming up, now that halloween is over, the Holiday Shopping is under way. I am counting here three of the right lanes now appearing to be open, but you can see that police cars are there. We understand that an offduty chp officer witnessed a cartocar shooting while on the bridge. That is what halted traffic and caused all of the lanes to be blocked earlier and we can see that three are open now, and no injuries reportedt that moment, and we wanted to show you a ground look here, and show you what is going on as the officers are looking for shell casings, mike. Very dry and difficult firefighting conditions once again and windy here across the northeast. Cecilia, back inside to you. Thanks. Important new information about the measles. A study revealing a probable reason why people who have had the measles are vulnerable to other infections month os are even years after the measles have gone away. Dr. Ashton is here with more on this. Good morning to you. Good morning. This study seems to suggest its more dangerous, the measles are even more dangerous than we thought. Its kind of a onetwo punch and its about immune amnesia so two small studies led by researchers out of harvard looked at antibody level, our immune memory in children who had had the measles and tested them and found that the levels had dropped by anywhere from 11 to 73 . These are antibodies against viruses and other bacterial infections and that can persist for one or two years after the measles goes away. We, of course, have been talking about that historic outbreak that we saw this year so i guess that makes the timing of this study even more important. And it really drives the point home that the vaccine is important not only protect you short term against the measles but longterm potentially against other infections. Two dozes, 97 effective. First dose recommended around 12 to 15 month, second dose by 4 to 6 years of age. Very, very important. We can prevent measles outbreaks. Cant say that enough. Nope. Very important, indeed. Thank you, michael. Thank you, sara. We move to our gma cover story. Gma investigates a website called mylife. For Many Americans its one of the top hits that comes up when you google your name and advertises about threats online to your identity. Good morning. Mylife. Com says it has more than 300 million public pages with information they say on almost everyone in america. But now were learning it also has tens of thousands of complaints from consumers in the u. S. So this morning, gma investigates. Search for your name online and a top hit may lead you to this page. Mylife. Com. A site that says it gathers data from public sources to create biographical reports. It may include everything from your address to criminal history. That data then used to generate a reputation score. A Bad Reputation could hurt you personally and professionally. Reporter my life ads seem to suggest a poor score could cost you a job. Did you ever send out your resume and never hear back. Reporter the ftc and Better Business bureau say combined theyve received nearly 30,000 consumer complaints. They see a potential criminal record file and theyre alarmed by it. Reporter the bbb investigating it after consumers complained that certain information about them was wrong and that the only way to fix it seemed to be to pay my life. There have been consumers that have had bad information. They cant fix it and their represent takes are being harmed. Reporter the company now battling at least four lawsuits. I actually googled my name. When you looked at this information, what did you find . It said i had a criminal and arrest records which i dont. Reporter john is part of a proposed class action complaint. To have me be essentially blackmailed forward to fix that misinformation is just horrible. Reporter its not the first time the company has faced legal trouble. In 2015 without admitting wrongdoing mylife agreeing to a Court Judgment in california paying more than a Million Dollars in fines and refunds. They advertise that for free people could find out who was searching for them online. It wasnt free. Reporter now some consumers are complaining about a different my life service. That reputation score product. We wanted to try the site for ourselves. Our abc news producer taking a look at her profile. 2. 98 out of 5. Court records found. Reporter to access her full report and see what records theyre referring to, she buys a sevenday trial membership. After she pays im already at 3. 68. Reporter her score getting an instant boost but she doesnt see a detailed report. We have heard that from other consumers. They see alerts and then they pay money and their score automatically increases. Reporter weeks later her trial has rolled over to a paid subscription but that report is still nowhere to be found. Cant find that. Reporter shes concerned because it says that she has a criminal and court record. So she calls my life. After 30 minutes on the phone the company is unable to produce the report and offers her a refund. My life later telling abc news her report not generating was a rare glitch which has since been fixed. We checked and it was now there. And when we check someone elses page, there was no glitch. Their report populating immediately and appearing to be accurate. But our producer questions the accuracy of her report. My life still says she has a criminal and court record. But when she clicks it says she actually doesnt have that record. Good news. Reporter but now more confusion just below. A civil court record she doesnt recognize and neither the courts website nor the court clerk could find anything. My life telling abc that item in her report originates from the courts and they cannot account for what the new york civil courts report. They say our producer can post a comment saying that this record is not correct. Bonel says he hopes his lawsuit will lead to changes. What do you hope happens next . It has to be free for you to be able to update that information and ensure that that information is accurate. My life says it does not comment on pending litigation but a spokesperson there says publicly available information can have errors and much of the information on their site can be corrected for free like your religion and income but not your criminal history. So can you eliminate your profile. The company says you can remove that profile for free on the website but you have to send them a photo of your i. D. Cant stress this enough. Follow up. Gio, thanks very much. We turn to a couple proving that early retirement is indeed possible and they are not alone. More and more people are joining whats called the Fire Movement. Rebecca jarvis is back with all of the details and, rebecca, this couple were about to see retired at, listen to this, 40 and they have children . Yeah, this sounds great, cecilia. Right . Youre about to meet this family. They made the conscious decision to dramatically and radically change their lives so they could be financially independent and retire early. We are financially independent and have retired early. Reporter meet the Browning Family from San Francisco, california. Christina, amman and their two kids. Christina and amman are already retired at just 40 years old. I was making 9 ,000 a year and christina was making about 70,000 a year. Reporter now living their retirement dream in port gal. How did they make it happen . Theyre part of the Fire Movement which stands for Financial Independence retire early. Your money works for you instead of the other way around. Theres more to life than just sitting in my cubicle. When he told me that it was like, okay, ive never heard of this. This sounds so bizarre but it was like, maybe we can do this. Reporter the brownings were able to save more than 2 million in just eight years by investing 70 of their income. Flipping fixer uppers, trading in their expensive bmw for a used minivan and earning thousands more as drivers for uber and lyft. Theyve been sharing their journey along the way with over 100,000 followers on youtube and instagram. We just thought this would be a pretty fun project to do. Share our story, share our journey and reach people and tell them theres this alternative to working these long hours. Reporter now they spend their days eating breakfast as a family, walking their daughters to school. Traveling and learning portuguese. Anyone that has a plan in place can do this. All right. We have so many questions. So lets say youve piqued someones interest. Dramatic sacrifice. You have to dramatically reduce how much money youre spending in order to retire early. Pay off all of your debts. If you have any debts thats going to eat into your savings. That wont help you then theres the extreme savings component. Youll be setting aside to prepare for this between 40 and 60 of your earnings and you have to get to a point in order to do fire successfully you have to get to a point where youve saved 25 times the amount that you plan to spend annually. Wow. Its a lot of money. That is a lot of money and takes a lot of planning. You say there are really important caveats you have to consider in this. The brownings did this successfully. Part of it they moved to part gal where the cost of living is dramatically lower than where they were living before. If youre planning on retiring in a city like nashville that 5 types your annual spend something going to be 657,000 whereas new york, you need over a Million Dollars saved to even consider this and i would say to people, Health Care Costs are the thing you cant plan for and thats something people should prepare for in the future whether theyre retiring at 40 or 65. I hear portugal is lovely this time of year. Oh, yes. Thank you. This was fun. Read for about f. I. R. E. On our website. Lets head over to ginger who is in my neck of the woods in washington, d. C. This morning. Youre going to give us a sneak peek of the National Childrens museum before it opens. Hey, ginger. [ applause ] thank you, cecilia. We actually are at the reimagined National Childrens museum that opens in a couple of weeks during the Holiday Season. Right mind me you can see the kids throwing the pitches to be like the Washington Nationals but theyre learning too because this is the engineering games and playroom where were not only learning the engineering of a pitch but send the cars down. This is on the go go with these girls learning about speed, grade and how they can change that all. In this room you also have basketball thats teaching you about air pressure and how that can actually make a basket. So much to learn and it is time now for a snack food swap. So many snacks claim to be healthy alternatives to our favorite junk foods but a new article in the wall street journal reveals that many of them arent actually that much better for you so weve got registered dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner here to show us some healthier options. Now, first up well start with something im sure a lot like. Who likes potato chips . A lot of people love potato chips. Exactly. But now weve been told a lot of other supposedly healthier alternatives like cauliflower chips. You look at the stats here. 160 calories, its got about 10 grams of fat, 150 calorie, 9 grams of fat. Very similar, so heres the deal. Even though there might be a little bit extra nutrition youre still looking at a package snack. Had isnt like youre gobbling up real fruits and vegetables so i have a better idea. You have a more natural option. Ooh is right. I got the real swap for you. Theyre hungry. You ready for the reveal . Reveal. Here we go. Okay. All right. With in this is just roasting Sweet Potatoes in your oven. All youre looking at is Sweet Potatoes and oil and youll save calories and fat but youll get good, fresh simple nutrition . Wow, thats really good. I like that. I can do that at home actually. I do do that one. Heres a little weakness i got. Chocolate chip cookie. We got a yeah back there. There are so many organic options but are the ingredients in those organic options any healthier. Oh, boy, no. Oh, boy. Heres what weve got so weve got stats that are very similar and when you read the ingredients which can so important youll see they both have refined white flour. So even though its organic, yeah, youre not getting any extra nutrition for that so ive got a better idea for us. What is the swap . Swap it, baby. Here you go. So this is what you could make at home. This is a little chocolate chip bite with rolled oats that is a whole grain. A little bit of honey. A little bit of flaxseed. A little bit of nut butter. No baking. You just roll them up and this is like a little bite and getting Real Nutrition with ingredients just from your kitchen. I would try that but i got to keep on talking. It looks a little thick. Another great option. Yes. Here is a breakfast staple. Cereal. Cereal. [ applause ] but we do know that its loaded with sugar. Yes. First of all but some brands say they have protein in the cereal. Does that make it any better. Nope. Come on. So lets look at this. This is like 100, 110 calorie, nine grams of sugar. You get these vergaras with protein. This is zero grams of added sugar. 16 grams of protein but its all processed ingredients so the swap, you ready for the swap . This is overnight oats you just soak, yes. And instead of all the fruity fake flavors real fruit sweetening it up with nut butter, yeah. You cant beat it. Thank you so much for that advice. And make sure you can try all these things at home, everybody. Stay right there because well be right back. [ applause ] good morning, everyone. Im kumasi aaron of abc7 mornings. We want to tell you that there is a backup on the bay bridge when an offduty officer witnessed a cartocar shooting. And that has forced some closures. Over to jobina. Yes, the eastbound 80 with the backup on the bridge and the backup is bad right now. We are looking at 7 Miles Per Hour, and 6 Miles Per Hour on the bridge at this moment. You see the red line extending on the match and looks like a 38 minute drive across the bay bridge from San Francisco. This is a live look from the toll plaza and all of the lanes are moving at this point, but the impact has also extended to mass transit here. So capital corridor, and the eastbound buses from San Francisco, expect delays. And the Treasure Island route, expect delays and east bay transit riders expect delays. We build spaces for curious travelers. We create the things that we want to exist in the world. We want people to feel like they spent time with family. Im damon. And im marcus. And were airbnb hosts. Now, your accuweather forecast with mike nicco. The sun is up, but we are at our coldest part of the morning up in the north bay, and still freezing in nevada and san rafa rafael, and the frost warning continues until 8 00. The orlandos outside San Francisco took in seven siblings first fostering then adopting them. Our kids really have identified the fact that were not to take anything for granted so now they are doing something so that other kids can get something. Take this stuff into the closet. Reporter the kids chipping in, they now help other families find clothing for their foster children. Ones girls. Reporter with this clothing closet. Foster children often have nothing except the clothes on their back. In ohio darlene bell and her family volunteer doing equine therapy at dreams on horseback in columbus. They use the power and beauty of these horses to help veterans who struggle with ptsd. What are you going to tell him. Walk on. Reporter they also help children with autism like young maddie here. Her teachers have said she has tremendous selfcontrol in school now that she didnt have before. Hello. Were from georgia. Reporter also helping others with autism luke and his family. Their support means the world to other families. Theyve helped us to see that these children are not disabled but differently abled. Reporter helping seems to be a gift in both directions.
