How about putting power lines underground . Reporter Kevin Burnett lives in an area with buried lines, but hes been without power since saturday night. Pg e anticipates the new shutoff will impact the same customers. Burnett admits he has concerns. Ive done the best i could with some ice and doing okay right now. That goes until wednesday, thursday, not going to make it. Reporter lights have stayed on for this womans family in Scotts Valley. Her lines also buried. Got candles and flashlights and water, and it never went out. We are one of the lucky ones. Reporter no luck for denise whose power went out the first two rounds. Were planning to get out of town tomorrow. Were going to get some nice away time from this madness. Reporter the pg e power shutoff is one reason youre just taking a vacation . Thats the only reason. Reporter Scotts Valley police took to facebook to explain their frustration with getting reliable information about who exactly will be impacted in this third round of outages. More than 450,000 people lost telephone, internet and Cable Tv Service in this weekends round of shutoffs. The blackouts are knocking out cell phone towers, more than half the towers in marin went down. Six radio stations went off the air. While the kincade fire is still growing in size, calmer winds did help gain ground. More than 74,000 acres and 15 contained is up from yesterday mornings 5 . So thats a bit of good news. Last night firefighters said they expect to reach 100 containment by next thursday, november 7th. So as the containment goes up, the more confidence grows. I always say we are not out of the woods yet. That is the day before the anniversary of the campfire. People in western Sonoma County had evacuation orders downgraded yesterday afternoon. Firefighters were able to keep most homes standing. Dozens of schools across the bay area will be closed today because of smoke, power shutoffs and evacuations. And as we head into the 2 00 hour we start to see some highs in the diablo range and some extreme up in the north bay where its going to stay up there all the way through the afternoon into the early evening hours and we start to see some very high to extreme in the east bay hills and down into the diablo range. Lets watch the peninsula. You become extreme by midnight tonight. All those areas under the red flag warning are hitting our highest level of fire danger during the evening and overneat hours. As we head to tomorrow you can see by the end of the morning commute it moves into the north bay and by the afternoon hours it finally vanishes. Worried about smoke today, this is spare the air. The most concentrated area of smoke in the north bay and blowing over to the coast and down into the central part of the bay area and then tomorrow it will be back up in the north bay. Take a quick look at the temperatures if we can and you can see were starting in the 30s and 40s this morning. Low to mid60s by noon. Mid60s to low 70s. Temperature wise a delightful day. Pg e filed documents with state regulators late yesterday and the fire started in the same general area as an electrical malfunction. The utility could face possible fines for not turning the power off before that fire. We are assessing whether or not we should advance appropriate fines where the protocols have not been met. Those fines would include the possibility of 100,000 per incident per day. According to the chronicle the fire destroyed two outbuildings and damaged the roof and chimney of a home. A fire also broke out on the other side of highway 24 at pleasant hill. In milpitas a fire burned four homes. The fire destroyed a home and damaged three others. It took fire crews about five hours to get that fire fully put out. Wine country here in california is one of the most sought after wedding settings in the entire country. Such a special place and they wanted to make it a special day. They did and now they have this photo. Hopefully that wont be the new normal. We want it to be beautiful like it always is.
