Operations center. Our town leadership has been evacuated twice from our command center. Once in downtown windsor and on the outskirts and now in santa rosa. Thankfully the city of santa rosa hosting us in one of their buildings. Right now, were the most important thing weve got our residents out. Its just things now. Which, you know, can always be replaced. Were happy we have our residents out. On the fire front our last update were still okay. The fire is up to the east of the town, and were still monitoring. What are your biggest worries at the moment then . Whats going to happen with the wind. I went into town last night and with our town manager and a couple of my Council Members and it was the most fierce wind ive ever seen in the 30 plus years ive lived in our town. So the concern obviously that wind would bring the fire towards the city. Do you know if firefighters are staged in the city trying to do structure protection so that any flying embers dont start fires in buildings . Theyre everywhere. Thats the other big bright spot. Weve got i was here in our Emergency Operations center two years ago during the last fire and were so so much better prepared. Such an amazing response by fire and state and police and our leadership that im confident that if theres anything at all that we can do to prevent loss of buildings in our town, then its going to happen. I know you are a small town but you maintain your own Police Department and you have your own fire or is that Sonoma County fire . We have a joint relationship with Sonoma County fire. Were the only city that is part of that. And then we have a shared jurisdiction with the sheriffs office. The Windsor Police shared with the sheriff. We have our own chief and so in our own our officers wearing uniforms and really kind of proud to be part of our service but one of the great things as i was driving through i was seeing officers from venetia and berkeley and contra costa. The region has really stepped up to support us. I can hear in your voice, mayor, you sound a little sad understandably. Take us through your emotions and sort of everyone who has been around you, you said youre a 30year resident of windsor so life is most important, but that doesnt mean its not sad to feel like your town and home is threatened by fire. The voice is because of the smoke and its connecting to your last story its hard realize the local elected officials we have most of us have other jobs so i have a family winery, my family has been in the wine business for generations and, you know, on a personal note all night realizing that fire is going to either take a turn between windsor and healdsburg where my family winery is, we lose that or it would go and we would lose part of our town. Its, of course, both sides of our Wine Industry, threatened tremendously right now as well which really hits home for a lot of us. We hope the fire will spare the homes and wineries. I was asking you about your departments because im wondering if you can give us a sense for what your First Responders are doing right now. Right now the firefighters are definitely trying to watch out for any spot fires, putting out embers and thats in the town and around the town. I know Law Enforcement is making sure that they can support as well. At one point we had 200 officers stationed in wind sore last night and to help protect the town and keep everybody else out. Mayor, can you talk to us about just the sheer efforts for a small town to, you know, be be a part of something so massive, 180,000 people in Sonoma County the largest Evacuation Order ever, and i know that folks up there are tough and youve been through a lot and, you know, the wildfires two years ago touched a lot of folks up there too, but how is this moment comparatively and just the magnitude of what is happening . For us in windsor it was support role two years ago. We had fire around us but didnt touch. At this time its us were in the bulls eye. Obviously weve had 30,000 of our residents who didnt get to sleep in their own bed last night. Thats hard. What i would like to say to my residents were a very Strong Community and im very proud of how much weve come together and no matter what we will come through this. Such a tough break for the wine country to be going through this once again. All the businesses and wineries your familys winery trying to recover from 2017 and this is just a double blow on top of the outages which have been difficult. Yeah. Thats something we need people to know. Last time it was a double hit for us in the Wine Industry because we had the fires but then we had honestly a lot of the National Media made it look like wine country had been burned down and we lost business a good year. Ive already had half of my calls today have been from customers, wine club members, concerned that, you know, we were no longer going to be in business and canceling trips for the year. Without finding out whether were going to lose our winery, were faced with a tremendous loss of business. Weve been following whats going on and whats happened is the mandatory Evacuation Orders have been greatly expanded. 180,000 people now in the north bay, Sonoma County area and also 30,000 acres have now burned in the kincade fire. One of the big updates overnight and this morning in terms of evacuations was the santa rosa area. Got off the phone with paul with the Santa Rosa Fire Department and he confirmed the coffey park neighborhood is under evacuation. Remember from the fire two years ago that neighborhood was leveled with flames overnight and they have once again had to leave their homes along with another several other neighborhoods in the santa rosa half of Fountain Grove has been evacuated. There are some areas that are not have not been evacuated in santa rosa including roseland and the downtown area and Sonoma County fair grounds. Were waiting to hear more about the areas and the Evacuation Centers are filling up and officials are asking people to go as far south as san rafael if you need an open evacuation center. It is 8 10 on this sunday morning and we have been following breaking news all morning as the kincade fire explodes in size due to unprecedented winds. Were talking 80 to 90 mile per hour gusts at some of the Higher Elevations in Sonoma County. And as a result of that, a greater area is under threat and as a result 180,000 people are under the good thing we can tell you due to firefighters amazing efforts theyve been able to keep the flames from getting to healdsburg or windsor. Those two townses closest to the fire lines right now being threatened. However, there are a few places that have burned including the historic soda rock winery in healdsburg. Embers got to it and even though it is pretty far away from the front lines you can see the facade the only thing that remains now after this historic Alexander Valley winery completely burned down to nothing. Cornell barnard there is and he will bring us more about it from the scene in a moment. We do want to let you know that what we have now is 180,000 people under Evacuation Order. 30,000 acres burned so far. Only 10 containment. Full containment is not expected for possibly ten days or 14 days or Something Like that. The cal fire report was saying november 7th. Full containment takes a long time on the large wild land fires. The interesting part our containment number dropped overnight. Yesterday we were at 11 , now 10 , jumped in acreage overnight, little more than 25,000 acres burned and as the sun comes up theyre able to get air support and see whats burned because theres light outside. More than 30,000 acres have burned at this point. A lot of tough things to talk about because the Weather Forecast is terrible today in terms of the wind and lisa will talk more about that but in terms of the good news, its the preparation. All week long between the outages and just knowledge about the potential fire danger, people have been able to prepare and get out of town. Yesterday morning at 10 00 a. M. They evacuated the towns of windsor and healdsburg. That was 50,000 people evacuate the right then and there. They asked everyone to get out by 4 00 before they cut power to that area which would make evacuations more difficult. Sounds like what from what were hearing they got out and prepared. There was so much frustration in 2017 that nobody had any warning. The fire came out of nowhere and there was no time to evacuate or prepare. They had that time this year. People have evacuated. So much so that a lot of the Evacuation Centers in petaluma are full, theyre sending people down to san rafael to evacuate into marin county. Traffic on 101 because that is the main evacuation route. Be patient but know that that is the route you need to go to evacuate. Highway 101 is now it was closed for a few hours overnight between santa rosa and cloverdale. But it has now been reopened. We cant imagine its because the threat has been reduced but people need 101 open. It is now completely passable the latest information we have from the chp. We should tell you even as we monitor the kincade fire there are fires breaking out in contra costa county. Real quickly we want to let you know theres one burning on bethel island, one at summer lake and up with in the nightson avenue area. Were hearing evacuations related to this. One emergency evacuation in clayton at the base of mount diablo right off marsh creek and Morgan Territory. There is a fire going on there as well. Petalulsoma, a fire there. A bunch of spot fires relating to the kincade fire. As were watching video of pg e workers on the power lines one of the questions that keeps coming up, look, weve got huge outages, most of Sonoma County is out of power and yet some of the fires were near issues on transmission towers or lines including the petaluma fire where we were hearing from a supervisor, a transformer blew near arnold and stage gull much where the grass land fire broke out this morning. Questions for pg e about why is there an outage and why are there still potentially fires being caused by their equipment. Lot of frustration from people through the bay area saying were making these sacrifices to stay safe and avoid the fires but if theyre still happening what does pg e need to do, what do they need to do in terms of changing protocols or strategies in the future. That is a discussion for the future. Right now we want to take you live to our reporter Cornell Barnard in healdsburg at the soda rock winery which has burned down. We are happy to see you got your mask. Yes. Forgive the mask but it is super smoky, folks. Active fire thats burning here on the west side of healdsburg. We cannot tell from this Vantage Point and we are quite a few miles away if that is a structure burning on the top of the hill but we can show you this structure which is totally gone. This is the soda rock winery. It was sadly a victim of this mornings overnight fire that blew through here. It is a total loss. I have to tell you it looks like a war zone. Theres core re gaited metal everywhere. The only thing Still Standing is the brick facade of this beautiful winery which we are told according to the website been here since 1869. Every town here in wine country has a fixture winery and this was the fixture for the Alexander Valley for sure. Soda rock, according to the website, the original site of the Alexander Valley general store and post office and once the central hub of activity for the valley, thats according to the website. Certainly was. We talked to cal fire spokesperson familiar with the area said this is a popular spot for weddings, celebrations and wine tasting for locals and folks traveling all around the world, of course. Its just incredible to see and no words to express how tragic this is. Caused by embers according to cal fire. Embers blowing from the kincade fire which is many miles from here and really hard to tell from our Vantage Point where the fire line is. Active fire to the west of us and smoke, you can show, to the east of us as well here on highway 128 here in healdsburg. Its hard to tell which way the embers came but those embers came in fast and furious for sure overnight, blowing through here and it was too much of a match for cal fire to try to save this beautiful winery. Back to you. Kornl, its been just so hard for the Wine Industry all the reporting that weve done up there after the 2017 fires we were just talking to the mayor of windsor whose family is in the wine business too. People felt like everything had burned down and when in reality the wineries wanted people to come back and visit the wineries because thats how they can get back on their feet and rebuild. Im sure the owners of soda rock are feeling like they would like to start again. Its tough because the outages and fires the Wine Industry is taking a hit. Yeah. It is tough. After 2017 fires, a lot of people thought that wine country was devastated and a lot of the winery were gone. That was not the case. There was a pr campaign to bring people in and that was successful, but, you know, we have the pg e Power Outages this has been very tough for a lot of the wineries because this is crush season when all the grapes come in and you start to crush the grapes and start and try to make the wine. It was a tough time for folks to lose power. A lot of wineries and breweries spending thousands of dollars to bring in generators to keep the operation going. On top of everything we have the pow Power Outages and now tragic fire. Out buildings surrounding this beautiful winery which seemed to be intact. In fact, coming in here from highway 101 about an hour ago, we didnt see any evidence of anything burned by fire. Kate, i think you were mentioning that we have fire breaks all around us in theory with the wineries so with the vineyards. But in this case, the embers flew through the air. This is one of those gusts were talking about just blowing through here. Weve seen this lik every five minutes strong strong gusts really throwing us for a loop here. Send it back to you. Those embers do not discriminate. When talking about how its the crush i was actually up going towards the incade fire on wednesday night an hour after it started and i remember driving back at 2 00 in the morning and there was actually workers in the evacuation ordevineyards dr pulling grapes off the vines and glowing red fire on the hills above them but goes to show you that were in the middle of the crush, this is a vital industry in the bay area and people had to keep going. I remember hearing yesterday as well that even during evacuations when nobody was allowed in their homes they were allowed some vineyard workers to get the work done. Its about these people who depend on it for their livelihood. I also wonder as they talk about the number of people evacuated, if all the vineyard workers were counted. If theyre not permanent residents necessarily but need to be evacuated. The size of the evacuation could actually be even greater when you add in all the folks that youre talking about here seasonally who are working in that area, you know, right up to the gate of danger, but now hopefully theyve all gotten out of the way and escaped to safety because nothing is more important than their lives. That drives home the point when you look at whats happened to soda rock. It is very sad. When people see this, you know, as the mayor of windsor said, nationwide when people see these pictures they think the whole region is not a place to visit right now. And that is not necessarily the case. No. Countless wineries everywhere. Yes. We hope people come still come to visit us. But were going to get to meteorologist lisa argen who has been tracking this weather. The topography of the bay area in general really making for really augmented conditions with the winds. Were looking at the funneling winds coming in through the gaps in the mountains and that just accelerates the wind speed as it moves across the bay. Thats whats happening from the delta. These are the upper elevation winds now. Gusts to 36 miles an hour. Hawkeye 53 mile an hour, northeast wind gusts and mount tam over 25, beginning to see the winds down at the surface now into San Francisco, san mateo, east bay valleys and when you look at the winds out of the delta, look at that 60 mile an hour wind gust. We have a gap from the mountains and the winds get channeled and funneled and gain speed and we get the fast speed through the delta and you can see they are straight out of the north in oakland, San Francisco, up to 36 miles an hour. Looking at them picking up from livermore hayward, so these have strengthened since the past couple hours and they will continue to do so. See san jose out of the north just at ten but you will see the winds in the valleys pick up from 20 to 25 miles an hour in the south bay. I want to give you a measure of the moisture in the air the dew point, looking at dew points in napa, santa rosa, in the teens. Usually the air holds different amounts of water with the different amount of temperature and you hear about the high humidity in the southeast, the high dew points. The opposite going around here with the dew points in the teens and then you core lathe that with the fast wind the relative humidity dropping to 19 in oakland. The fast winds throughout the day today looking at 22 in san jose. You havent had much wind at all. We have fog off the coast but not helping us because the winds are from the north and east. Throughout the afternoon today, still have our wind advisory through thee entiray area. Our wind warning for the upper elevations of the north bay, we clocked wind gusts of the hills in the northern parts of the mountains up to 93 miles an hour north of healdsburg, thats a category 1 hurricane. And also looking at winds at about 50 miles an hour from mount diablo. 20 to 35 miles per hour, the reds, oranges, yellow, here we are into the overnight hours, breezy, the winds lighten up, still offshore. We get a break throughout the day on monday into tuesday, a break, then looking at another offshore event tuesday into wednesday. 54 degrees now near the kinkaid fire. Relative humidity 12 . The nds a5 miles an hour. The air quality is moderate because of all the wind that is blowing a lot of it to the south, a lot of it to the southeast out towards the ocean, but that is an evacuation area there, hugely expanded overnight due to these incredibly strong winds. Another look at our smoke forecast throughout the day today. It will be with us on and off throughout the day but the headlines the wind. The wind in the valley, wind in the upper elevations. The concentration there, of course, right where the fire is for the smoky conditions. Our fire index then continues greatly in the upper elevations of the north bay. Down the diablo range, gusty winds as well. 3 00 in the afternoon. We continue to see the fast wind speeds, the dry air, the low dew points, the low relative humidity. 1 00 in the morning, getting better. Not until tomorrows commute when we see the winds dial back out there. Watching it for you today. But theres already been just spreading the fires has spread enormously with 180,000 people now under a mandatory evacuation in Sonoma County. Were going to see more. Were going to see more fires and more spreading of the fire as the embers get wut ahead and you can see the forecast theres no rain. Its dry. And i said we get that break tomorrow into a portion of tuesday and then more offshore winds. Whether or not these people are ever going to have any power in southern marin, rest of the bay area, they cant get to an update. The kincade fire marched south by about two miles overnight. Given the wind conditions would you say thats actually pretty lucky that it only went forth two miles . Yes. But still more wind out there today and the wind continuing yeah, i think its probably going to expand more. I mean the way it is, you know, over 101 expanding westward to the ocean, yeah. I mean its we dont have the weather on our side. We dont have the humidity. We dont have the moisture. So were we have no rain in the forecast. Were going against everything. Yeah. All right. Thank you, lisa, for that. Its not just the north bay on fire. Contra costa is dealing with several fires including the Clayton Oakley fire. New video into the newsroom youre looking at now. What we know about this is that there are evacuations that have been ordered in clayton because of the fire. Leon court, leon drive, and leon way were told by con fire residents should leave immediately. Like i said, there are several fires burning in east county and if you are in danger according to the Fire Department regardless of location dont wait, evacuate. They say the fire danger is high as we know but just because youre in the in the north bay or Sonoma County doesnt mean you shouldnt be paying attention to whats going on around you. If you see fire, if you smell smoke at all concerned, its always better to be safe than sorry and leave. This seems at the base of mount diablo off marsh creek Morgan Territory where weve had other fierce and issues in the past as well. Even as we look at video of the fire, we have a little bit of good news. The oakley Fire Department saying they have stopped the Forward Motion of this fire and they are now working to contain the fire. Hopefully that is a little bit of good news and lets hope that they keep it that way and keep winning the battle. Right now we want to show you video we got in as well from the soda rock winery in healdsburg which you know has been destroyed in by embers coming from the kincade fire that the winds just picked up and now look at it. All that remains is the facade of this historic winery that dates back 150 yearsn the Alexander Valley. Really a place that tourists love for weddings, special events and they recently went through a full restoration. Right. And Cornell Barnard has been live out at the winery for us. This morning it just sort of is a pile of core re gaited metal and ash and walls. Its completely unrecognizable. Whats interesting is it looks like the vineyards around it did not burn. Another home across the street did not burn. Likely flying embers pushed by this wind that just happened to land on the property of soda rock winery and it just took it down in flames as you were mentioning, kristen, this winery has a great history in the wine country. Its been there for over 150 years. It was the original site of the Alexander Valley general store and post office. It was sort of this central part of this town. So many areas of the wine country. This was there before the wine country was the wine country right. The hub of activity for the valley if you will and as you say there is really nothing left. And th spotes and embers glow interest there and we only hope that winds wont pick that up, the hot spots and spread that to other homes because we saw there were some homes and structures. Right. Out buildings in that general area. It is a tense time, a dangerous time. It is a time when the winds continue to just howl and with gusts over 90s miles per hour. Youre looking at the video from this morning of soda rock. This is Cornell Barnard is there. This is his photographer. Is that cornell in the yellow jacket. That might be someone else. Its nothing, so and you can see all around if you look in the back of the shot those are vineyards untouched by the fire sort of a fire break in the sense it didnt spread but destroyed the entire property. And the vineyards its not dry vegetatio, didnt do anything. Another house across the street that seems to be okay. And this metal sculpture survived of a boar. Otherwise there is not too much left. We feel for the folks who run soda rock winery. Absolutely. And this is one of 79 structures have been destroyed by the kincade fire. 30,000 acres that have burned so far. That acreage jumped about 5,000 acres overnight. And almost 32,000 still in danger. Homes, businesses, likely other wineries just hoping they dont become the next victim pushed along by 80 to 90 mile per hour wind gusts. This is red winery road. Had i was there wednesday night. Its on the border of healdsburg and windsor. When i was there, it was still many, many miles from the fire front and there were people, they all had vineyards and homes, families, sitting along that road youre looking at in lawn chairs looking at the fire probably as the crow flies maybe four or five miles away. Who could imagine the extreme winds that would throw embers into that area sparking just destructive spot fires and thats apparently what happened to soda rock and we did forecast these wind conditions, but sometimes you have the forecast and you hope well lets hope the worst does not come to pass. However in this case it did. Check in with meteorologist lisa argen with the latest on todays wind speeds. Look at the wind gusts going to gust to 40 miles per hour. At the lower elevation. Here we are 9 00, you can see the wind gusts Half Moon Bay out of the northeast at 30. Look at discovery bay, fairfield, oakland, San Francisco, point ray yes, as we go through the next several hours, 1 00, 34mileanhour wind gusts by the delta. The winds get funneled through oebds and San Francisco and san jose now in the afternoon 22mileanhour winds and as we get towards 5 00, they are gusting to 30 miles an hour. It is not uncommon to have wind gusts throughout the entire day today. The sustained winds 15 to 20 miles an hour and looking at 11 00 tonight, yes, we are still windy out there. The direction here is out of the northeast. Its the dry direction. It keeps our dry air drier and primes the atmosphere for fire and fire spreading quickly. Hawkeye, over 50mileanhour winds, mount tam, 25 to 30. Surface winds what im talking about 30 to 35mileanhour. Its a terrible day in terms of winds and in terms of wind direction in terms of speed, the dew points are in the teens and we are looking at the humidity continuing to drop. Those embers, the fire, the weather is not helping and its pushing it along and it was were not going to get a break until perhaps early tomorrow in the day. Weve got a setup in the atmosphere with High Pressure to the west of us, low pressure to the east, and the channeling funneling winds drying out the atmosphere moving fast in the upper elevations mixing down to the surface and that is a recipe for disaster and explosive fire growth through overnight hours. The fire conditions now are pretty much the same with the low relative humidity, high wind speeds and the air quality some of you ive heard from you its nice and pristine and thats because most of it is being pushed offsho. Dont be surprised if you see areas of haze and smoke today. The yellow indicates moderate, the green is better and throughout the day today yes wee still looking at that smoke and most of it up in the north bay around the kinkaid fire around santa rosa, healdsburg, geyserville and be to sea. Were concerned abo our community weve got 180,000 people under Evacuation Orders as you know. You and i met on the campfire in paradise what can you tell us about the kincade fire . We know that a lot of people and lives have been saved but were rrd how quickly its moving . You know, well, weve been predicting it for a few days now and it happened. We got our winds and that being said, we were aware and we put a lot of crews and resources in that area. I actually just came off the hill a little bit ago and can tell you guys and you guys can pass it to the public reassure them that we have firefighters all over that area actively engaged in structure protection and perimeter control in trying to get that fire pout in those areas. Can you talk about the battle plan as to how to achieve those goals of structure protection . How do you build containment lines when the winds are this erratic . Ick our battles. If we can do it safely and it makes sense at the time, we do that. Were very opportunitiesistic. When that opportunity comes up to get in there and get some containment lines even if theyre small and the fire burns to a road and were able to stop it along the road well do our best to get that done. We have dozers working in the area putting in those lines. Structure protection, the engines are there. They will back in and sit there and wait for the fire to come and theyll be there once the fire passes, make sure all the hot spots are knocked down and move on to the next house thats ahead of the fire to do the same thing to homes that havent been impacted yet. Daylight is a doubleedge sword when it comes to fire fighting. It gets drier. You can get your air support up. Can you talk about the resources cal fire has on the fire. We were told theres 1300 firefighters, 24 7 on kincade fire. I dont know if those numbers have change or how many planes you have in the air today. Those numbers have changed. Were over 3,000 fire personnel. So engines almost 300. Multiple hand crews, multiple bulldozers. The numbers of air tankers is difficult because we dont commit them to the incident but this being the only large incident in the state in Northern California were able to get the aircraft we need. Theres been aircraft allocated for this that everybody knows, the 747, dc10 large air tankers have been allocated and listening at our briefing today assigned. Sounds like youre good from a resource standpoint is that what im hearing and the rest is like up to Mother Nature . Absolutely. You know and the public knows weve been talking about this for multiple days now the wind was coming and i didnt want it to materialize but we were aware of it and it did and we were ready and we have those crews engaged. Were in a good spot for everybody that remembers the 2017 fires it was a little different situation. That big fire hit withou all these resources sitting right here waiting. Well were kind of in a different spot this year. Both 2017 and then last years campfire up in paradise i guess do you feel like thats also the good news people were able to get out in time because everyone prepared themselves so well but the Evacuation Orders happened early yesterday . Absolutely. Thats why we made an attempt to get them so early so we didnt have those issues and people had plenty of time get out ahead of it. As we know and weve seen, those lastminute fires that happened so fast and so quickly, and then people are getting stuck and not able to evacuate and having to shelter in place, things we dont wantecause when those things happen, we cant fight fire. Our number one priority is always life safety and then it goes to putting out the fire and protecting property. If we move into an area and the public there is we will stop and move into a rescue mode and get the people out to safe areas. All right. Robert, thank you so much for joining us. Good luck. Yeah, it is. This is what was soda rock winery. 150 years old. A general store in the area. A beautiful location now reduced to ash overnight. As the sun comes up here along route 128 in the hills here were able to see all the devastation we couldnt really understand in the cover of darkness. Driving along this route to get to the soda rock winery, we passed a house that was completely engulfed going to be leveled as you can see the smoke coming in. Its smoky wherever everywhere. The winds are in a lull and fresh air and other times they kick up and youre getting severe smoke and that is whats going to be making this fire a dynamic situation as long as this red flag warning is in effect. 180,000 people under mandatory Evacuation Orders in the area. The fire burning at a reported 30,000 acres plus. That seems to be growing. In the hills there are spots of fires. Were not near direct flames that i can see but a lot of devastation. Flames came through here overnight and that fire will continue to burn for a little while here. Thank you so much, will reeve, for that reporting. So sad to see soda rock behind you like that. We know that theyll rebuild. I shouldnt say that. I assume like many wineries that have gone through this they will rebuild and they will recover like we do here in the bay area. Yeah. I think the smith family and we have no doubt that they will. Theyll get the Community Behind them to do so as well. Will was talking about the spot fires and there appear to be some of those happening on highway 128 in healdsburg. Thats where reporter Cornell Barnard has moved on to from soda rock. What are you seeing there, cornell . Yeah. We were just down the road from soda rock where will is, but we want to show you a fire fight happening here really for the last five minutes. This is an out building at a winery just off of highway 128. We are not sure what exactly that is. Maybe a ranch house. An out building perhaps. It was fully engulfed about three minutes ago. Firefighters have put out the flames, but it is unclear at this point how it started. Weve seen quite a few of those including the tragic soda rock winery which was a total loss. I have with me now robert with cal fire. I know youve been out here for hours and hours perhaps days, tell me whats going on with the fire fight . Before you answer that can you tell me anything about how this fire may have started . I dont have that information how exactly that fire started. With the wind direction blowing this direction from the northeast, we are getting heavy winds. It could be a possibility that an ember could have sparked inside the winery. Sparked inside the winery and spread the embers, the winds have been fierce. Extremely dynamic. Tell me how that is playing a part and challenging you guys. The challenge is with the high winds, coming from the northeast, all of the firefighters on the ground are trying to get ahead of it, preparing. Theyre going around structures in that area doing structure protection. Prepping the homes and just making sure that theres no one else in those homes and everyone else has been evacuated. Everybody okay afar as we know . As far as we know, yes. As we were talking before we came on tv, its really hard to tell because there was so much smoke here where the fire line is. Is it that way . Is it this way . Where do you think the fire is burning at this point . The fire edge right now is behind you. When the course is blowing, you can feel it on yourack and coming towards us. Thats the battle that were dealing with right now. Reporter it is such a tough battle. We saw that this morning. We were in santa rosa. The winds were fierce. They were whipping up. Debris all the way over highway 101. Tell me how thats playing a part in the fight. Part of the section of the highway is closed down for any Public Traffic just because the debris and the smoke going across, the visibility is very low. So they shut down parts of highway 101 just so fire crews can go out there and safely i know the fire grew overnight to 30,000 acres. Reporter how is the firefight going . Is there any hope about this . Theyre out there. Theyre working hard. Theyre doing everything they can. And theyre going to keep going at it every day. Reporter how many firefighters up here . Roughly i think 20. Let me see. Were at 3,000 personnel. Reporter 3,000 personnel. Do you need more staffing up here considering that, you know, youre challenging Mother Nature here . Well, well do with what we have. We cant you know, we still have to have other fire crews protecting the rest of california. Reporter right. I know were not far from the towns of wait for a fire truck to pass from here. Not far from the towns of healdsburg and windsor that were evacuated yesterday. Are you confident that were going to keep the fire at bay, keep the fire from spreading into those communities . Were doing our best to keep away from those communities and keeping those people in those communities safe. Reporter its so important to heed those evacuations and mandatory warnings . Yes. So is it possible that embers from the soda rock fire could have lit that on fire . And then i cant its hard to tell, but it looks like are there vineyards between you and the outbuilding that are burning or did burn or is that just dry brush . Reporter this thats a good question. It appears that we think this may have burned . Hey, robert. Dont go anywhere. W have our cal fire here. Do we think these vineyards have burned at some point . This whole area . Reporter yeah. You can see how the grounds charred up. Reporter kate, at this point its anybodys guess how this fire may have started. I believe robert said perhaps an ember that had started the soda ck winery on fire and it was fully engulfed for quite a long time may have spread over here. It is really unclear where the ember landed and it took a while to ignite, but when we came down the road from soda rock about a half a mile from here, it was really going. It was fully engulfed. According to a ranch supervisor who manages the winery across the road here, everybody is out of that building. Thats good. Dont let robert go because i do have one more question for him, which is we heard that there may be a fire at Alexander Valley school, which i understand cal fire teams were using. Have they had to relocate and are they fighting a fire at Alexander Valley school . Reporter robert, kristin wants to know if there is a fire burning at Alexander Valley dont know. It has burned down to the ground. There are sheets of metal and brick walls standing here and there. Its gone, 150 years of history out in a matter of hours. Somehow they got that property on fire. We have spoken to call fire just recent bely and there are updates. They have more than doubled the amount of firefighters that are on this fire. Yesterday it was 1300 fires around the clock. Now were talking about 3,000 firefighters around the clock. Cal fire is in charge. As we know with all of these major incidents, there are Fire Departments and crews from all over the bay area and state that will come in and provide assistance. We know they have 300 engines and thats on top of all sorts of other firefighting equipment. They might have bulldozers out there to try and cut lines. We know they have air tankers, air support at 747 and at dc 10 to do some of those water drops and retardant drops to draw a fire around the fire containment line so it doesnt spread farther than it already has. The acreage has increased to about 30,000 acres increased now. Thats up almost 5,000 acres overnight. Up 25,000 yesterday. We havent gotten any updates on containment. A containment was down. Lets take you up via sky 7 to give you an ariel view of where sky 7 is actually headed to the kinkaide fire area getting a little closer to the Alexander Valley area in healdsburg. Still being rather far away, the haze. See that hazy smoke right there over the horizon there . That is due to the smoke, of course, from all the fires and all the flames and the air quality is going to be poor. We dont want to talking about structure protection, especially windsor and healdsburg. In some cases its block by block to prevent any spot fires that might hit the Historic Structures down there. Businesses, restaurants, homes. So far they had to keep the claims from keep in mind, its not like these fires move in one straight direction and everything in its path is destroyed. It will move in different directions, different fronts at some point and all of these major wind gusts, 80 to 90 miles an hour can pick up giant embers and create fires in completely different areas, which of course are called spot fires as you see sky 7 moving closer and closer to that giant bank of haze which will be blown all over the bay area. As we look at the wind gusts right now, 50 miles an hour. Knoxville creek. Thats over 3,000 feet. Out of the north and the hills gaining speed. As we look at the surface winds, 51 miles an hour. It is howling at 36 miles an hour. Oakland, hayward, livermore. San mateo, up to 20. Santa rosa, 45 miles an hour. We still haveur high wind warning in the north bay. Wind advisory throughout the entire bay area through 11 00 tomorrow. Thats because the winds are going to continue to gust throughout the day as the Pressure Gradient is tight. Here we are at 9 00 looking at the wind gusts double digit over 25 miles an hour. Oakland, San Francisco, fairfield 11 00. Still out of the dirtion where it is dry. It will get dryer Half Moon Bay. Heard from folks there. Youve got the oranges up to the north, to the east. The diablo range has been at 50 miles an hour. Still looking at the gusty north northwest winds from 30 to 5 00. Winds at sunset will back off a little bit. Stronger winds come in at sunrise. We are not out of this for another 24 hours and as we look at the dew points, 13 degree dew point in napa. That is just bone dry. Oakland. Now your winds are picking up as well in high ward and the peninsula. There is pretty much no moisture or very little moisture in the atmosphere. Livermore down to 19 . 24 in hayward. Look at san jose, 21 . It is 9 00 in the morning and we are at very, going into the single digit rains, the winds continue to gust and its actually not bad in the bay area. The winds are so gusty they are starting to blouw and we will have some haze. There is an air quality advisory throughout the bay area. The blue indicates very little in the way of smoke. Youll notice most of it is up to the north near cloverdale, healdsburg where the fires are burning. Some of the spot fires will continue as well perhaps into the east bay. Our fire danger index shows the winds not lightening up today. In fact, theyll continue to be 25 to 35 miles an hour. Down in the lower elevations i think we have hit our peak wind gusts of 80 to 90mileanhour earlier this morning. Well still see winds up to 60 miles an hour. 2500 feet. As we look towards the overnight hours youll notice were getting into 1 in the morning and well still see wind gusts at sunrise. We mentioned its about 180,000 people under direct orders, mandatory orders to get out, to get out of the kin cane areas. This is divided up into ten zones that are under mandatory evacuation. The city of santa rosa, not all of it, but a good portion of the city of santa rosa many neighborhoods are under mandatory Evacuation Orders right now. If you look at the green dot on the southern part where the yellow meets the purple, thats the of santa rosa. Everything else is mandatory evacuations. Its everything south of the area, the Public Information officer, neighborhoods like roseland are not under mandatory evacuations. Downtown santa rosa is okay and the Sonoma County fairgrounds. In terms of areas that are under evacuation, half of Mountain Grove as well as coffee park, which is just heartbreaking when you think about it because you remember from 2017 the err tire year it was leveled. Thats not to say the fire will reach the neighborhood. We certainly hope and pray that it will not, abobut you can jus about imagine how terrifying it is for the tens of thousands, almost hundred thousand people who have had to get up and leave. A couple of noteworthy evacuations in the santa rosa county. The sutter hospital and keyser hospital. And the Charles SchultzSonoma County airport. Theyre closed to all flights except of the eval cue wags in place for that whole area. Right now we want to take you to the investigation, it helped develop the bay area in Sonoma County as a result of the kinkaide fire that broke out on wednesday. Its a threat that keeps growing and growing and overnight the winds keep reaching the incredible speeds that they did. Overnight winds not sustained by a lot of high density population. Santa rosa, parts of it as well. All the way to the coast, were talking about to bodega bay, sebastopol. Thats the way the wind is blowing, which actually lisa mentioned is blowing a lot of this smoke back out to sea rather than perhaps farther down to San Francisco or the peninsula.
