He says he used drugs with tyler skaggs and not only that, but he says that two Team Officials were aware of this ongoing drug abuse. Reporter this morning, explosive new revelations in the investigation into the sudden death of Los Angeles Angels pitcher tyler skaggs. Espn now reporting a team employee, eric kay, told federal investigators he provided skaggs with oxycodone for years, that the two of to them abused the drug together and that two Team Officials allegedly knew it was happening. Tyler skaggs would give eric kay money and eric kay would go buy opioids for both of them, and tyler skaggs would cover the cost of erics pills. Reporter kay is the angels director of communications. He reportedly also gave the dea agents the names of five other Major League Baseball players who claims used op yats while with the angels. If any angel employees were aware that a player had any sort of drug issue, theyre required under Major League Rules to immediately notify the commissioners office. The people we spoke to said that never happened. Reporter the angels president responding in a statement saying in part, we had never heard that any employee was providing illegal narcotics to any player or that any player was seeking illegal narcotics. A spokesperson for Major League Baseball says the league was unaware of any of these allegations. After fully cooperating with the government investigation, the league will conduct one of its own. Tyler skaggs was just 27 in his sixth year as a major league pitcher. In july, two days after taking the mound, he was found dead in a texas hotel room. Skaggs death clearly weighed on the angels player. In late august, an autopsy found fentanyl, oxycodone and alcohol in his system. Skaggs family then releasing a statement about his death saying, we were shocked to learn it may involve an employee of the Los Angeles Angels. We will not rest until we learn the truth about how tyler came into possession of these narcotics, including who supplied them. The dea investigation soon followed. Theres the issue of what the team knew and when they knew it. Theres also the issue of if there could be a link between those drugs and his actual overdose. That employee, eric kay, told dea investigators he gave tyler skaggs oxycodone in the days leading up to his death, he doesnt believe he provided the drugs that killed him. Kay said he saw skaggs using opioids hours before he died, but it also included a drug he didnt recognize, and the dea investigation into that is still ongoing.
