The shut off starts at 2 30 a. M. In butte, nevada, placer, and yuba counties. In the north bay, pg e decided against large shutdowns because of improving weather conditions, but at 4 30 a. M. , 708 customers are due to lose power near calistoga, napa and the northern end of lake berryessa. In Sonoma County, 71 1 customers near sosa long porter creek road will be affected. Abc7 News Reporter kate larson is live in santa rosa with details. Kate. Reporter well, ama, larry, we are on Mark West Springs road and just about five miles up the road towards calistoga is where pg e will begin their planned power shut off. But there are businesses all over Sonoma County who are paying for the power shut off even though the lights are still on. You can feel right now how cold that is. Reporter Robert Morris is the coowner and general manager of custom crush in windsor where cooling is key. Were looking at millions of dollars worth of inventory that really cannot get warm. Reporter he and the rest of the wine country are in the middle of harvest. They need pg e and their power to keep their wine and grapes cool so the threat of largescale power shut offs is no small inconvenience. As a business owner, i really dont like being in this situation because it causes me a lot of anxiety. Reporter it also costs him a lot of money. This is what it boils down to, United Rentals and generator and were ready for the power shutdown. Reporter money spent, whether the power goes out or not. Morris is also a reserve firefighter in healdsburg. He worked 96 hours straight fighting the 2017 wine country fires and says we need to prevent those type of fires at all costs. As a firefighter, yeah, i dont want to see fires started from d pow l ow. So its probably a good preventive measure. Its just a very unfortunate set of circumstances. He said before pg e had their planned Public Safety power shut offs, he would normally set up about five generators by this time of year. But this year, now that we have the possibility of all of these power shut offs, he says that he has rented out 35 generators, which is seven times his usual number. Starting with what house Speaker Pelosi did today, announcing the opening of a formal investigation. She has asked six house committees to figure out if there are grounds for impeachment. Reporter from there heres what will happen. The committees have to decide if there are grounds. If there are and if there is evidence of wrongdoing, it then goes to the full house. Reporter larry, by next summer, those living in rvs or trailers parked on narrow Mountain View streets will have to move along. Were talking about streets that measure 40 feet wide or less. Mostly residential. That controversial decision came down less than an hour ago. Hundreds of Mountain View families have found shelter in these oversized vehicles. Rvs and trailers the city says are impacting safety along narrow, mostly residential roads. This has been three years in the making. Its not that we woke up and said, you know, lets talk about safe parking and rv parking. Reporter a continuing conversation that hasnt become any less contentious. 24 7. Reporter in a 43 vote, council decided to restrict oversized vehicles from parking on narrow streets. Changes go into effect on june 30th, 2020. The city will also restrict those vehicles from parking on any street with a designated bike lane. Many argue these rules would disrupt lives. Most of these people will still want to stay in their communities with their family and their friends and their home and their schools. Reporter one man living in his rv asked not to be identified. Hes new to the streets but has spent 16 years in the Mountain View apartment. His longtime girlfriend died in february and he was unable to cover rent on his own. I tried my best, but i couldnt find a solution than this. Reporter the ordinance considered an allhours ban in some areas and allow sanctioned parking in certain areas. And that provided by the city shows rv residents could park in industrial or commercial areas. Those living on the streets arent convinced this is the answer. I just think it means we have to really stand up as strong as we can. Reporter council is also looking to establish a safe parking program. They want to bring three cityowned lots online by the end of this year. Those lots together would host 60 oversized vehicles. Right now across Mountain View, there are more than 200.
