Yet it turned into a source of frustration for a pacifica woman. 7 on your sides Michael Finney has her story. A bank of America Customer thought she had done everything just right after she received her fraud alert. The bank, well, it had a different opinion. She works in the fastpaced world of biotech. To keep up, she has to be quick on her feet. But one thing she has never mastered is being in two places at one time. She recalls being in downtown San Francisco one day when her phone buzzed. And i got a fraud alert on my phone. So i called the bank and they said that there was some potential fraud activity happening. Reporter she went home and looked up her account online. She saw 3700 worth of unauthorized activity in southern california. I was in San Francisco using my debit card. This was happening in west hollywood. Thats what triggered a fraud alert. Someone withdrew 700 from various atms in southern california. There were also three withdrawals totaling 2,950 made inside two Different Bank branches over three consecutive days. She immediately blocked her card and initiated a fraud claim. The bank reversed the atm charges within 24 hours, but the check Fraud Department refused to do the same for the other charges. She appealed. After more than two months, the bank again ruled against her. She could appeal again if she could prove her whereabouts. Prove that i was not in southern california, prove that i didnt travel back and forth to southern california, prove that i didnt give my card to my husband and send him to southern california. That seemed unfair. They basically put the burden of proof on me to prove i didnt commit the fraud. I turned into the criminal somewhere along the line and im not sure how that happened. Instead of appealing a second time, she contacted 7 on your side and we notified bank of america. Within 24 hours, b of a reversed its decision. The bank told us additional Video Surveillance revealed proof that the person making the withdrawals was someone other than our customer. We were glad to be able to fully return the lost funds. I really believe without you guys this would not be where it is now. I would still be fighting this bank. B of a denied the original claim because the person used the debit card and pin.
