Now to the breaking news in the Antonio Brown saga with the raiders. The wide receiver posted on instagram this morning, asking to be released from the team. Here is the post. He writes, quote, i have worked my whole life to prove that the system is blind to seek talent like mine. Now that everyone sees it, they want me to conform to that same system that fail me all those years. Im not mad at anyone. Im just asking for the freedom to prove them all wrong. Release me raiders. Adam schechter from our Sister Network espn says by fining brown 215,000 for conduct detrimental to the team, the raider voided the 29 million worth of guaranteed money in his deal. Sources tell espn the raiders sent brown a letter, saying he will not be entitled to termination pay if the team releases him. Jeb darlington from espn received an email from brown. Brown says the team, quote, took away my guarantees. No way i play after they took that and made my contract week to week. At this moment espn says dont expect brown to play on monday. And happening today, sfos busiest runway will be shut down for nearly three weeks. This is a live look from the airport right now. There are threeandahalf hour delays on arriving flights at sfo at this moment. The shutdown is part of a 16 million maintenance project. Abc 7 News Reporter liz kreutz has the details. Reporter friday night at sfo flights were on time, but starting on saturday that likely wont be the case. One of our runways, runway 28 left, will be closed due to necessary construction. So we can expect delays averaging 20 to 30 minutes. Reporter here is what you need to know. For the next 20 days sfos busiest runway will be out of commission for maintenance. During that time all flights coming in and out of San Francisco will have to use just one runway, meaning you better be ready for delays. Obviously people say it is such an inconvenience, but why is it important . I would think of it like this. Like a roadway has maintenance, like a regular road, so a runway is similar to that. Reporter to help ease the traffic, sfo worked with airlines to reduce the number of flights during the period by 13 . Many airlines including united are sending passenger emails like this, warning people about the expected delays and offering to change flights for free. We talked to a guy at sfo leaving for palm springs. You think it is good theyre doing this maintenance and shutting down . Better than having plane crashes. We dont need potholes on our tarmac. Reporter worth the inconvenience, but he doesnt have to deal with it. You missed it by one way. How are you feeling about that. Happy, delighted. Reporter to avoid delays we are told to book early, flights billy r before 9 00 a. M. If you can, avoid traveling on wednesday through friday as those are the busiest days. Like we said, talk to your airline as many are willing to change your fly for free. Liz kreutz, abc 7 news. How would you feel about taking a ferry to catch a flight . It is a new option with the San Francisco bay ferry. Travelers ride to the south San Francisco dock, then pick up a free shuttle bus to the airport. There are three ferry trips in the morning and three in the afternoon, we days only, with service to both alameda and oakland. From oakland it would take about an hour to get to the airport. A oneway trip costs just over 8 with a clipper card. By comparison, taking b. A. R. T from west oakland to sfo takes 40 minutes and costs closer to 10. People have so many different feelings about the outcome of the ghost ship trial. A juror spoke with abc 7 news to share his story about what he has called one of the most fascinating and frustrating experiences of his life. Abc 7 news anchor dan ashley has more. Reporter millard billings was one of the alternate jurors. He never expected to deliberate, but when the judge threw out three jurors he was called back to court. The case was very, very complex. I was very frustrated because i felt there were a couple of people on the jury that immediately had already made up reporter billings says after hours of deliberation it seemed likely the juror could be hung for both derick almenas conviction and max harriss acquittal. Two days before the end when the woman who was sort of saying that she wasnt going to allow us to let him go, we talked to her. She was very nice. She was very reasonable. Finally, at the last minute she said, okay, i will join the other 11, and so max harris got off. Reporter as for almena, the jurors had two arguments, one legal and one moral, implicating the warehouses landlord, chor ng. Ten of us felt he was guilty based basically on the fact that he violated the lease. They argued that because the ngs collected the rent and the ngs collected the utility bills and the ngs knew it was all illegal, but by going along with it these people felt that then gave almena tacit agreement that what he was doing was okay. Reporter dan ashley, abc 7 news. Billings said after the verdict was announced prosecutors asked the jurors about the strength of their case. He said because almena faced a 102 guilty vote it would be interesting to see if the county takes him back to trial. New details about a deadly hitandrun in the south bay. Here is amanda del castillo. Reporter neighbors say these seemingly peaceful streets turn to grid lock during holidays and weekends. He blames googles waze app for detouring highway 17 drivers during congestion, a nightmare igniting fire escape concerns. Their one and only escape route is this road. So it doesnt take much to bring that to a halt. Reporter alison amed lives along the marked wildfire escape route. She said fastmoving fire and slowmoving traffic could have devastating, even deadly consequences. We get stuck in our house because of the cars cut through on the street over there and over there. Reporter captain bill murphy with santa clara fire says the department is aware of traffic issues along the corridor, but admits theres Little County fire can do with mitigating traffic flow. An Italian Police officer died from 11 stab wounds in 32 seconds. Thats the stunning finding from an investigative report involving two bay area teens being held in a rome prison. Iteam reporter dan noyes has the latest developments in the case. Reporter family members visited both teens at the prison in central rome. A spokesman told me lea elder traveled to the city under the radar to see 19yearold finn elder for the First Time Since he was arrested and accused of stabbing to death Italian Police officer Mario Cerciello rega. Italian prosecutors say the teens were looking to buy cocaine in the Early Morning of july 26th, and when undercover officers intervened they took what Police Called a pushers backpack to the Meridian Hotel where they were staying. When the socalled pusher called his phone still in the backpack, the boys answered and demanded 100 euro and a gram of cocaine for the return. You could hear the backpack owner calling police for help retrieving his property. Undercover officers Andrea Varriale and Mario Cerciello rega responded and confronted the teens who said after they didnt know the men were police officers. Prosecutors say finn elder admitted stabbing rega with this marinestyle knife. They fought him off and ran away. At this Police Conference the commander said the varriale couldnt fire at the suspects run away because it would violate policy and he was busy helped his mortally wounded colleague. Now he has changed his account in a deposition, admitting he and rega did not have service weapons, handcuffs or police identification, and that they were wearing bermuda shorts and tshirts at the time. Finn elders attorney in rome tells abc news the admissions bolster both teens statements they dont know the officers were in fact police and they call into question the credibility of the cases main witness. The public has an incomplete account of the true version of the events. It is said however the truth will set you free. Reporter new images from Surveillance Video published by corriere della serra show elder and natale an hour before meeting the officers, looking down the street and crouching behind a car near their hotel. Those pictures are part of the investigative report handed to the defense teams this week. Lea elder sent me a statement saying after seeing her son finn is depressed and it is difficult to see the facts unfairly represented. For the iteam, dan noyes, abc 7 news. Taking a live look at drivers going across the Golden Gate Bridge. Traffic is one of the issues we are focused on as part of our effort to build a better bay area. The electroniconly toll at the Golden Gate Bridge soon will spread to other bridges in the bay area. We first told you about it earlier this week. You had lots of questions and now were getting the answers. Here is abc 7 News Reporter lyanne melendez. Over the next five years all bridges will transition to eectronic tolls. If you have a fast track device nothing will change for you. This device is attached to my personal credit card. So i know it is the year 2019, but, lets face it, not everyone has a credit card. The Golden Gate Bridge transitioned to all electronic tolling in 2013. We wanted to find out how it is working there. If you do not have a fast track and you cross the bridge, you will receive an invoice by mail to the registered address for the vehicle. Reporter is it extra . It is not. Reporter one of our viewers, kendra thompson, asked on our abc 7 Facebook Page asked, what about people who rent cars visiting from out of state. I personally went to a Car Rental Company to find out what their policy was. Okay. So i found out that the big rental companies do have a tolling program, but it comes with a fee. So in this case if you just drive through you would pay a 3. 95 surcharge on top of the cost of the toll. But as the Golden Gate Bridge highway and transportation district told us, there are cheaper options. You can do that online. You can pay by phone. Reporter another viewer, Andrea Takemoto asked, what about the people who work in the toll booths . Are they going to be out of work . The short answer is theyll have other jobs just like toll takers at the Golden Gate Bridge. The Bay Area Toll Authority estimates that with this new system they will speed up time at all of their seven bridges by three to seven minutes. The Golden Gate Bridge saw immediate results. Before cashless tolling, 500 vehicles per lane per hour moved through the plaza. After cashless tolling, that number went up to 1,500 per lane every hour. Isnt that what we all want, a seamless commute . In San Francisco, lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. We want to hear your ideas about building a better bay area. Were going to stay on top of that Antonio Brown situation for you all. Now were going to check in with the weather with meteorologist lisa argen who is here, and things seem a little cloudy behind you there. Thats right. And we are in the east bay. This is walnut creek where were starting with the cloud cover. Just down the road in concord, beginning to see some sunshine although, you know, when we get that onshore flow all the way into our inland valleys, it will be a cooler afternoon for you. We had that yesterday. The trend continues today. As we look at the next several days, were starting out with these winds in the upper elevations that work their way down to the surface, creating the breezy to gusty winds throughout the day today. The temperatures a little bit below average in spots, and then the heat comes back for the middle of next week. Especially inland, were definitely going to warm up around the bay as well. A live look outside closer to the bay in emeryville, where you can see that weve got blew sky in the distance there. Thats what we have to look forward to. And with the cloud cover, a lot of it is associated with a front. This will allow for the mixed skies today, the partly cloudy conditions, and then the gusty onshore winds. Check out mount tam where you see all of the fog here. Visibility still reduced in the north bay. 62 in san jose. 61 in gilroy as well as half moon bay. 58 in San Francisco. Those numbers look mild. But as we look at san jose and then look at this panel, it looks cool. Santa rosa and napa in the mid and upper 50s. The winds definitely playing a factor out there today. The upper elevations are looking breezy already. But as we go through the afternoon, those breezes will be felt right at the surface and then the wind gusts continue along the coast. This is 4 00 and we have 15 to 25milesperhour wind gusts. As we go through the evening hours it just gets stronger. Up to 30 Miles Per Hour from point reyes. The airport has had wind gusts already up to 20 Miles Per Hour. It is kind of a mess there with the construction and delays. As we go through 11 00, still windy out there but we wont have that fog tonight. 76 in san jose today. So a mild afternoon. How about 73 and sunny on the peninsula . You felt the cooldown yesterday, but we are adding in the wind today. 70 in millbrae. Mid 60s downtown, and up in the north bay looking at numbers ranging from the upper 60s in sausalito. Remember last weekend . Boy, yes, it was hot. This weekend we are comforable in santa rosa, at 80 on the east bay. Look for 74 in union city with partly cloudy skies. The winds kicking up in berkley, 69. Heading inland, 80 in concord and 78 in pleasanton. A switch for you. Overnight tonight, patchy fog along the coast. Otherwise we are clear and breezy and the numbers continue to drop off in north bay valleys. The accuweather sevenday forecast, low 80s inland. So it is a cool and you gusty afternoon. Feeling like fog. Tonight we will look at the winds dying back and temperatures rebounding a bit tomorrow with less wind. We will keep it that way through monday. Another system keeps us cool into tuesday, but eventually we will warm up. You can download the accuweather app and track the warmup, but for now it is the cooldown. Oh e yes. Your forecast was making me think of when i first moved to the bay area and i made the rookie mistake of leaving the house with no jacket and it is hot, and then youre like freezing. Youre no rookie anymore. No, i have it. I will pack it all this week. Thank you so much, lisa. Okay. Moving on to napa where theres a beautiful example of building a better bay area that also serves as a bridge between generations here. It is the story of a 92 year old who seems unimpressed with his age, who has used those years to make a difference by motivating others and building playgrounds for kids at the same time. Today he finishes work on his 73rd playground. Here is abc 7 News Reporter wayne freedman. Reporter do not let appearances fool you about the seasoned citizen who likes to visit parks, who can measure accomplishments by watching little kids trying to tear up a playground. This is cute life, thats all. Theyre s cute . Theyre unaware based on the signage jim roberts is a napa treasure. Were you honored . Reporter i guess. Thats pretty nice. Youre looking at the volunteer most responsible tore building this playground. After construction across town theres so much room in the front. I guess theyll have have have e reporter even after 92 years. I thought we would do one playground, 73. And 74 next month. We are doing another one next month. Reporter but who is counting . Yes, who is counting . I love it. Reporter it is not like jim went looking for playgrounds. It is more like playgrounds found him. In 1998 a little girl here in napa fell off a play structure, got a concussion. It didnt sit right with jim. He said it wasnt going to happen again. It shouldnt happen. A playground should be not only fun but safe, and this was not safe. Reporter so began jims campaign with the kiwanis club to bring in volunteers to cut down the cost of building labor. Jims home is his office, surrounded by pictures of his High School Sweet mart and wife with whom he raised four children. Reporter what makes him go . Life. Hes a happy man. Reporter and forever young at heart it seems. I used to do the building. Now i do the managing. Reporter when volunteers arrive they wont just be building a playground, they will be working with a force of nature, one man making a difference, leaving a legacy to future generations. I didnt know growing old at 92 would make me a lessened. That make me a legend. It is funny. Reporter also priceless. In napa, wayne freedman, abc 7 news. Awesome work. Thank you.
