An east bay Water District is getting ready for a rupture on the hayward fault by installing new flexible water mains. Leslie brinkley has the details. We are in the middle of the hayward fault zone. We could be standing on the hayward fault now. Reporter east bay mud Civil Engineer over seeing pipe replacement is excited about the new materials theyre using. Right now we are putting in pieces of pipe that are tenfeet long. At every joint, the joint can move three inches back and forth. So when you add that up over 1,000 feet, you get quite a bit of movement that the pipe can withstand during a seismic event. Reporter it is laborious and expensive. There are 4,000 miles of water pip pipes. This year theyre tackling 17 1 2 miles of it using money from julys 6. 5 rate hike. So we have the changes in store for your saturday and sunday with a return to some mid 90s inland. Here is a look from the east bay hills camera. You see a bit of fog there out in the distance. We are beginning to see a little bit of clearing along the coast. It is going to take a while and were going to enjoy a lot of sunshine and mild temperatures throughout our beaches. How about 70 day in pacifica. But the highs will be climbing certainly inland with the mid, even upper 90s today and tomorrow, and then it will get milder after tuesday. After the holiday, we get through the weekend, and then it is september and temperatures are going to cool a bit with a stronger onshore push. The winds are going to kick up and well see a return to the upper 80s for the warmest locations by the middle of the week. Here is the Golden Gate Bridge where were looking at the low clouds and fog, with us throughout the next several hours, and then this begins to erode and we will be looking at patchy fog, but pretty mild at the coast as the sea surface temperatures continue to come up.
