Were looking at how people are buying and living in vans. They are not every day vans. In this case they are called glamper vans. Abc 7 News Reporter checked them out. Its great for watching sunsets, sunrises. Reporter rob novotny started glamper vans as a way to update old campers. But hes increasingly getting calls for people not looking for a place to camp but a place to live. The one that comes to mind is the woman who is spending 5,000 for a twobedroom apartment and she actually has all the parking spots all throughout the city worked out already. Like this one is a thursday, this one is a wednesday. As the cost of living goes up in the bay area, so does the number of people looking for alternative housing options. With that is the rise of a new market, upscale livable vans. Inside these vans they are outfitted with a queensized bed, a desk, a refrigerator, and even inside here in some of them a portable bathroom. You just take this to your nearest starbucks or behind a tree and pour it out. Got a fireplace and oven and fridge, shower, skylight to the roof deck, a lot of fun features. Sam austin, a glamper van employee who lives in the van. Its not easy to build your own house while youre living and traveling in it but its been a fun journey. Its allowed me to establish myself in the bay area without exorbitant rent prices but still having a nice space i can call my own. At the moment most people he talks to are like damien who is seriously considering moving out of his San Francisco apartment and into one of these vans but has yet to make the jump. Youre definitely intrigued. Definitely. He still has some reservations. Its not very big in there. I mean, its one thing to go from 450 square feet down to 80 square feet. It is illegal to sleep in your car overnight in San Francisco. That isnt stopping people from doing it. Another reservation, the cost. These vans arent clean. They range from 50 to 90,000 each. You could argue thats less than what it would cost to buy an apartment in San Francisco. In San Francisco, abc 7 news. The head of San Francisco school board is offering a proposal to deal with the fight over a mural that put George Washington high school in the national spotlight. This weekend hes talking only to abc 7. Its called the life of washington. Its been in place 80 years. Some say painting over the mural, the current approved plan, is a step too far and erases history. School board president steven cook wants to cover the mural with panels. There are going to be a variety of opinions about what should happen, but if this passes, actually destroying the art wont be on the table. Time now is 6 18 and frances is here tracking our forecast. Hi, kmoes, good morning, everyone. Starting with low clouds, live doppler 7 and slight image showing cloud cover from the coast and into the bay but things are thinning out quickly. However, we do have some fog developing in the north bay, in petaluma and santa rosa, visibility is about a fourth of a mile, Half Moon Bay, three miles elsewhere. Visibility is fine but we have those low clouds. Although, you will find limited visibility right here across the golden gate bridge. You can see a few cars on the road but it is socked in right now through parts of the north bay and golden gate bridge. San francisco is currently 56 degrees, oakland 62, san jose and gilroy at 61, Half Moon Bay 57. Now we head above those low clouds. From sutro we are looking north right now and you can see weve got clear conditions. So the cloud layer is thinner today. Santa rosa 55, napa 52 and petaluma 54. So thats where were seeing the temperatures drop and thats where were getting the fog. Concord already at 62 degrees. Check out this pretty live shot from the east bay hills. See how clear it is out there as we look out towards mount diablo. We have High Pressure building. So warming trend starts today with High Pressure. Well get more of a land breeze and then as that strengthens over the next few days, we will be about 5 to 10 degrees above average by wednesday, then after that a cooling trend into next weekend. Here is the forecast animation with the cloud cover 7 00 this morning. Lots of clearing around the bay area, just clouds off the coast. Then you notice this offshore flow pushes the clouds away. So well even get more sunshine at the beaches and into tonight. Well see some clear conditions. Well still have a little fog over the next week but temperatures will really warm up with the sunshine and this land breeze. So here are your highs today. Well still see 60s at the coast but this time well be warming up into the low 90s inland. San francisco 70 degrees today. Youll need lots of sunscreen over the next few days. San jose 80, oakland 77. Look for some low 90s in fairfield, antioch, ukiah, 90, palo alto, 80 degrees. Also a great day to head to the beaches with more sunshine. Its going to warm up to 68 at ocean beach, santa cruz 79 degrees but the water will still be pretty chilly at about 58 degrees. I want to show you one of the forecasts that were getting for the next few days. For example, monday will warm up into the mid90s, upper 90s by tuesday. Then look at wednesday. We could see triple digit heat in some of our warmest spots. Some of our more aggressive 75 by wednesday. Here is the accuweather sevenday forecast. Sunny, less humid, warmer today, mild to hot tomorrow. The summer sizzle is on by tuesday and we have got hot weather wednesday midweek, near triple digits for the inland areas, even around the bay. Mid aids at the coast, upper 60s to near 70 and then the cooling begins and then contines into next weekend. So get ready for the heat. Im trying to plan what im going to do. Some nice patio to sit out on and just enjoy. Half in the sun, half in the shade. Sunscreen and sunglasses. Thanks, frances.
