In all 29 people have been killed and Dozens Injured. The cover of the New York Times may say it best. One shooting massacre follows another, shaking a bewildered nation to its core. The New York Post cover says, president trump, america is scared and we need bold action. That newspaper is calling for a ban on assault weapons. We have a series of reports on both tragedies and the response. We will hear from Mona Kosar Abdi in washington but we begin with Megan Tevrizian in el paso, texas. They include a grandmother who raised seven children, a mother and father who died while protecting their 2monthold son and an army veteran and longtime bus driver in el paso. Overnight communities coming together across el paso. Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name reporter from a parade of mourners carrying sunflowers to an estimated 1,000 people gathering at this baseball field all seeking hope and comfort in the wake of tragedy. Go, go, come on hands up reporter it comes after a gunman opened fire at a walmart in el paso saturday killing 20 people. The massacre unfolding as families packed the store, many of them back to school shopping. Dont stop, dont stop. Reporter surveillance images obtained by ktsm appear to show the gunman walking through the entrance with a weapon pointed straight ahead, wearing ear protection and tactical glasses. Adriana gonzalez was shopping with her mother. This Senior Citizen lady that i tried to help and i couldnt and i just told her to move faster and she couldnt move faster so i left her there and i needed to get out because the shooter was getting closer and closer and so i was just i just told her to get down and hide. Reporter leda dobrowskys sister, 25yearold jordan anchondo, was killed protecting her 2monthold son. On saturday leda pleaded for help locating her sisters husband andre, the infants father. But overnight the family getting the heartbreaking news the infants father had died as well. From my understanding they took the baby somebody else took the baby out from her, so no doubt he fell to the ground with her. Reporter the suspected shooter was arrested blocks away from the scene without incident. We are treating it as a domestic terrorism case, and were going to do what we do to terrorists in this country which is deliver swift and certain justice. Reporter the mall is five miles from the border and often pa paso and nearby juarez, mexico. Six mexican nationals were killed. Mexico is now considering whether to bring charges. Law enforcement Officials Say the shooter is from allen, texas, a dallas suburb 600 miles away. Meanwhile, back in el paso hundreds of people lined up in 100degree weather to donate blood as the Community Comes together trying to begin to heal. El paso, we are telling the rest of the world that if you come into our community and try to scare us, we will not cower. If you try to come into our community and spread hate, we will respond with love. Now to that horrific shooting in dayton, ohio. Nine people were killed and Dozens Injured before Police Killed the shooter. His former classmates say he was once suspended from high school after allegedly making a hit list. This morning the motive for the shooting remains a mystery. Reporter the crowd of people at this candlelight vigil in ohio showing their frustration with gun violence. Governor mike dewine was interrupted multiple times by chants of do something as hundreds gathered for the vigil in dayton. Less than 24 hours earlier, a mass gunman wearing a bulletproof vest opened fire on a busy street. Nine people were killed including 57yearold derrick fudge, thomas mcnichols, a father of four who is being remembered as a gentle giant, and lois oglesby who just gave birth to her second child last month. Very heartbreaking. I never really experienced it, never had to deal with someone that it hit so close to home. I just wish she would just wake up in the hospital. Reporter the gunfire erupted early sunday in daytons oregon district, an area packed with restaurants and bars. The Surveillance Video shows people running for their lives and Police Shooting at the suspect. I aint never going to get those sounds out of my head of just just the gunshots and then the people screaming and the trampling and just the fear. It sounded like reporter the shots rang out as holly redman was walking into a bar and after taking cover she ran to a wounded man and performed cpr. I put my hands on his wound and i couldnt get the blood to stop so i had a tank top on and i pulled my tank top off and i just sat there and i held the blood and she would do the compressions and i would lean over with my body weight on him and breathe for him and i knew he was still getting good air. We kept doing it for a long time and i feel really bad because we tried to save him but he didnt make it. Reporter the police chief says officers killed the alleged shooter within 30 seconds of the first shot. His 22yearold sister is among the nine victims. Police are investigating whether her killing was intentional. Again, police say the motive for the attack remains unclear. More than two dozen other people injured were rushed to hospitals for treatment. And the fbi has been tracking an increase in reported hate Crimes Involving suspects who identify as White Supremacists. Officials say most domestic terrorism cases are motivated by some version of white supremacy. Experts say the dark corners of the internet are gathering places for these extremists. They say the online messaging board 8chan is one of those places and its creator now says he thinks the messaging board should be shut down. Former fbi official steve gomez says much of the rhetoric shared on these sites is protected by the first amendment, limiting what federal agents can do. Those forums have allowed these extremists, domestic terrorist organizations and their followers, to digest information, propaganda and then take that information and it moves them further towards committing a violent attack. So we have to look at what kind of information is being allowed to stay on the internet, what is being posted on social media, because that is contributing to the radicalization of these individuals. Theres been a rise in attacks that were inspired by white supremacist activity but the White Supremacists and their ideology have been in existence for decades, and that has not changed. And a statistic here to think about. The fbi said its investigating 850 domestic terrorism cases, about the same number as active isisrelated cases, and a significant number of those domestic terrorism cases involve racial and ethic hatred. They were on the beach to celebrate her aunt having survived breast cancer, and thats when a 30foot slab of the cliff plunged down to the sand crushing them. Rescue teams tried to move the rocks but could not save the women. Everybody goes down on the beach every day and i saw people crying because theyre like, well, i was just down there ten minutes. Geologists say the bluffs that collapsed are a known trouble spot because of beach erosion.
