Our windows were shaking really bad and our doors the ground, you could hear the ground just moving and tumbling and rolling. And then we got to feeling the heat from the fire. And so we got in our vehicle and took out, got away from it. That fire created an immense amount of smoke and heat and debris. Reporter the fire shot up 300 feet in the sky. The fire ball was so big it showed up on the weather radar. Crews have been able to shut off the gas. This pipeline stretches thousands of miles from the mexico border to new york city. Michael . Reporter Authorities Say two planes similar to the ones seen here were flying together through this certified military training route when one f18 fighter jet went down. Smoke seen billowing from the steep cliffside as debris burned. The pieces of the aircraft were smaller than a dinner plate and scattered over a large area. Just moments before this house exploded firefighters responded to a call from the homeowner saying they smelled gas. The homeowner and three firefighters were injured but thankfully remarkably everyone made it out alive just in the nick of time, michael. Thank goodness for that, amy. Now to a wild rescue in iowa. Police racing to save a pair of rafters struggling in a raging River Holding on for dear life after their raft went over a dam and flipped. Will reeve has the story. Hold the light. Reporter watch as Police Officers scramble to save a couple trapped in the turbulent waters of an iowa dam after their raft capsized in a river. Dont let go. What happens with the dam, that water and backwash starts to spin and its almost like a washing machine as it just churns and churns. I think the video tells the story pretty well. Those officers took a lot of physical effort, teamwork and a little bit of time too. The couple was treated at a hospital and released. The Des Moines Police deptment said the officers dried off and went to work. They were helped in this rescue by a Good Samaritan so hats off to everyone involved. The mother of that 19yearold finnegan elder says there must be some explanation as to why her son acted the way Authorities Say he did. Allegedly stabbing that officer 11 times with a seveninch blade. Reporter this morning parents of the two american teenagers accused of murdering an Italian Police officer speaking out. In an interview with the italian newspaper la stampa, the mother of finnegan elder who is accused of stabbing the man claiming her son is a thoughtful boy. The only explanation that i can give myself, it means he was terrorized and so he reacted in this way. Elders father arriving in rome wednesday with the familys attorney to see his son now spending his seventh day in jail. Police accuse elder and 18yearold Gabriel Natale of stabbing of the officer after a drug deal went wrong allegedly elder stabbed the officer times. New instagram photos emerge now being broadcast on Italian Television showing him in San Francisco holding a large knife. This photo in front of the pantheon possibly taken hours before the incident. Italian police now looking at these images as part of their investigation. The kid had a knife. At least in San Francisco certainly in america thats not a super surprising thing. People carry it for protection. Reporter elders uncle was asked if he collected knives, replying his mother says she had seen a knife similar to those other teens in his circle had. In a statement the father of the other teenager Gabriel Natale claiming his son is innocent and distraught by whats happened saying his son didnt know his friend was armed and only became away of what actually happened after his arrest. I didnt realize that i had as deep a place for pain to come from that the shock and awe of this unfathomable idea of losing this beautiful soul with such promise to this world could possibly be real. This was the first time i ever dealt with anything like this and something that you might have said it someone said it. Just to be okay with any thoughts that you have. Its fine. Like because when youre grieving, you think things i thought things ive never thought before. Do you remember the last conversations you individually had with him . Uhhuh. What were those . I mean it was pretty normal, you know, we we all expected to see each other a lot more. Oh, we were expecting to see each other a lot. We were expecting to see each other a lot. For a lot more. You know, because we had a lot of press coming up that we were meant to be doing and we always did it together. Booboo, you remember . Yeah. The last time i saw him we were actually just we were at the radio disney music awards which was very recent and we were just planning to hang out and like make videos and we just liked creating stuff together. They were like two puppy brothers together. Oh, yeah. He was like my little brother. Reporter their other descendants costar sofia carson talked to us from toronto where she is currently filming. If you could bottle up happiness, that was cam. He was pure happiness and pure joy. There really will never be any words to describe the pain and how much we miss him and not much helps except knowing that he lived life with more happiness than anyone ive ever known. I think that as absolutely heartbreaking as this one is, it is a personal loss for so many young people who watched disney. And im sure you knew you were busted when hannah sent you the article but did anybody give you a headsup . Did you anticipate that that was comeing . You know, we had discussed that situation prior to the article and then we discussed it, you know, the day before the article actually came out so we had touched a lot of bases on it but still, you know, i was fearful and held out on some of the details that in turn caused us to end. And you were very apologetic on tuesday night. Seemed very sincere about it. Did you have to do some soul searching to get to that point . You know, it was one of those things that i knew how sorry i was, i knew how much i loved her and how her happiness was in my best interest and, you know, would have been easy to turn away and not even show up to after the final rose and i just wanted to be there for her so that she could have her closure and so that not only in her eyes but in the eyes of everyone else, you know, let everyone know that i am sorry, especially her. Did you get your closure out of all this . Its i do have closure now knowing, you know, that she has moved on, but it still hurts because i love her and i do want the best for her but ultimately i have to just move on. Now we saw the finale and when you guys got back together but have you talked to her since . I have not. No. Any plans or intentions to reach out at any point . Im sure well reconnect on some in some way. Were on decent terms with each other and we can, you know, still be friends, i hope, and thats all i could ask for. We saw the end of your engagement but saw something unexpected from hannah. She asked tyler out on a date. Right. How did you feel about that . You know, i had a feeling something was up and i couldnt really put a finger on it when i was there that day. I know there was a lot of nerves and a lot of tension, but, you know, her happiness is my best interest. I want her to be happy and tyler is one of my friends. Hes a great guy and, you know, if thats what is supposed to be then i support that. The thing about you youre on a show like this. All your business is out there and everybody finds everything about you. Everybody is going, there goes that jed guy singing his way down the street. [ laughter ] so how have you how have you and your family faced some of the backlash that has come your way. I think thats been one of the hardest parts of all this is kind of seeing how it affected my family and knowing its not their fault. They didnt sign up for this. All the family, the other guy, hannahs family, no one really signs up for this and its been hard to see them, you know, try to work through everything and to try to, you know, help them get through all this because its hard for everyone and but, you know, time will carry us through this and with god and everything, im praying that, you know, this will all pass and that its healing for them. Im just curious, what would you have done differently and does this change your approach to new relationships . Oh, absolutely. I really all my actions towards hannah, all my emotions were as authentic and real as it could be but i wish i had been more dailed and open to her earlier on and absolutely will affect how i am as a person, you know, this whole show really opened my eyes to a lot 6 things and changed me in a lot of ways and with my newfound perspective i hope to move forward and be a better man. I have to remember, hsct. It has long been used to treat cancers of the what and bone marrow. Now doctors are using it to attempt to reboot the immune system hoping to stop the attack on the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Katzsands not treating selma blair says most medical centers this transplant is still in clinical trials. The newer therapies are are e promising and makes us want to continue working on this. Reporter the transplant is a long and painful process. First stem cells are harvested then the patient is given chemotherapy for over a week to suppress immune cells, the stem cells initially harvested from the patient are infused back into the body. The risk of infection is high and doctors may monitor patients in the hospital for months while the immune system rebuilds itself. 49yearold alison carr battled undiagnosed ms for years and when there were no more medications for her to try in 2014 she had a stem cell transplant. My whole life i felt so sick. Reporter two months after the transplant the mother of four says she felt better than she had in 26 years. I woke up one morning and the first thought in my mind was, is this what Healthy People feel like . Reporter while this transplant needs more study and is not yet considered a cure many doctors are hopeful. The idea here where you could actually just reset or reboot the immune system and that people could potentially even be cured of the disease is very appealing. Its just going to take us a while to find that out. Our abc News Medical Team tells us this transplant treatment is likely most effective at preventing further damage from ms and slowing the progression of the disease.
