Neighbors say the victim was a beloved grandfather. Im still choked up over this as are most of my neighbors over there. It is hitting close to home. Reporter coincidentally, hundreds showed up to the scene in small groups friday to visit with a famous monk. Many were concerned. But for others, there was concern. It is unclear how the grandfather died. Those responsible got away. Sky 7 flew overhead as investigators went through the neighborhood searching for evidence and suspects. Smart train officials are working on installing more safety fencing at train crossings. This comes as we learn about a fourth death on the tracks. A smart train in santa rosa struck a man yesterday afternoon. Authorities are calling it an apparent suicide. It happened just before 3 00 where the track crosses san miguel avenue. This was the fourth death on the tracks in just the past two weeks, and the school board in the past two days. In addition to more fencing, officials have also discussed increasing patrols along the tracks. In san bruno, officials there are investigating a death on cal train tracks. A northbound train hit and killed the person around 6 30 last night at the scott street crossing. Officials say the person was trespassing. The family of a 2yearold santa rosa girl who was the victim of a hitandrun says it will be a long recovery. Theyve started a gofundme to raise money for her medical ek pences. She is being treated at ucsf benioff hospital in oakland. Police say the toddler ran into the street near the mall thursday afternoon. A van hit her. The driver took off. Police later arrested the suspect, hector larios. He is in jail on felony dui and hitandrun charges. Police say he has four prior dui convictions in the last six years. Building a better bay area is about finding solutions, but in san mateo a program city officials thought would improve Public Safety is ending after 14 years. The city will get rid of its red light cameras. An evaluation found Public Safety was no longer significantly improved and the program had become more challenging to administer. This was prompt by a yellow light timing error discovered in a camera on saratoga drive and hillsdale boulevard. It looks disorganized. It is below hurricane status with winds of 70 miles per hour. They have been working hard with the levees and the pumps to get ready with the rising waters with such a system. It could bring several inches of rain. We are looking at, once again, the righthand side of the system bringing in the heaviest rain, the flash flooding, the storm surge, which has been up to seven feet. So far for new orleans in particular things are going okay, but the mid mississippi valley, the ohio river valley is going to look at the flash flooding, the potential for that anyway as the system continues to slide to the north. Throughout the day it does weaken, but the heavy rain, the possibility of some flooding continues. And theyre getting two to three inches of rain per hour, then they will see problems if it lasts throughout the entire day. If it continues to move, right now the mississippi well within its banks at 17 feet, but you have lake pontchartrain down there. So obviously watching it closely and you can see the rain expected throughout mississippi, arkansas and especially right here around new orleans.
