Reporter we met with fire victims this morning who told us about residents going door to door, knocking on doors, waking everyone up, helping everyone get out safely. They did. Residents who escaped a huge fire yesterday rushed back this morning to check on their homes again after they heard there was another fire. Less than 24 hours later. I was kind of freaking out this morning. We thought everything was okay. So, i was like, oh, man, hopefully it didnt get damaged this time. Reporter firefighters say there was a flareup at 1 25 this morning at this martinez condo complex on east gate lane. They got it out in about 20 minutes and kept it to the attic space of a building that had already burned in the original fire. I get over here and look and go, there was a roof there when we left yesterday. So, it happens, right . It was really windy last night. Reporter the first fire started sunday at 4 15 in the morning. You can see from this helmet camera from firefighters how big and aggressive it was inside. Investigators say it started because someone left a pot on a akitchen stove. Five of the eight units in the building were damaged. As you walk in, it looks kind of like a mudslide came through. A lot of ash and sheetrock and water. Just stinky smoke smell everywhere. Reporter even units without fire damage still arent habitable. We could live there in a few weeks, they said, when on you power gets turned on and the smell goes away, but im pregnant right now so we cant really be there. Reporter everyone got out okay. No residents were hurt. Thats the most important thing. Making sure everybody gets out safe. At the end of the day, this is just stuff. Insurance can replace this stuff but we cant replace people. A student who knew cruz said he likely waited for valentines day to carry out his plan. Love was something nick never really understood.
