So this is probably not going to get much warmer, the scene today, because with the winds gusti gusting to 23 miles an hour, the cool air mass is on the way. Starting out rather typical. But by the afternoon, the winds are gusty, the temperatures are 20 degrees cooler, and we have some precip along the shoreline that could fall as a rain snow mix, and thats not our only chance. Firefighters say a pan on the stove caused this twoalarm fire at an apartment complex in martinez. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. One firefighter was injured. No residents were hur firefighters say five of the eight units there sustained fire damage. Its unclear how many residents are now displaced. More developing news out of san leandro, crews from contained a threealarm fire at a commercial building. Firefighters responded just before 4 00 this morning at tea garden street. Flames spread to nearby businesses. It was reported as twoalarms, but was upgraded to three. Officials say there are no reports of injuries. This is video from brianna, who shared it with us on twitter. She saw the flames from the northbound lanes of 880. San jose police are looking for whoever stabbed a man outside a mall, sending him to the hospital with lifethreatening injuries. It happened at 7 40 last night, near the grand century mall on story road, where thousands were celebrating the vietnamese tent festival. There was a large fight outside when the man was stabbed. No suspects have been identified. A Good Samaritan risked her life racing into a burning home, rescuing a man trapped inside. Abc7 News Reporter katie utehs spoke with the woman whose heroic actions saved a Senior Citizen from the flames. And i look over, and it looks like the fire is right next to me. Reporter Samantha Barnhouse is small yet brave. Firefighters wear protective gear to clear this apartment on pepper tree way. But moments earlier, samantha saved a mans life with her bare hands. She and her family stepped out to head to the park. She saw smoke. When she realized she was the only one there to help, she ran across the street. The fires roaring and everything. And then she said, i cant and shes crying at me. She says, i cant, my roommate, hes paralyzed. He cant get up. I cant get him out, you have to help me. She started past the flaming stove towards the back bedrooms. Th once she reached lois burton, she grabbed the office chair and pulled. And i look back in the hallway, and its black. Reporter she put a robe her burtons face to protect from smoke. It was incredibly dangerous. She yanked the chair and the two fell out the front door. The fire was out pretty much all the front windows and the front door. Reporter burton said he r reinjured his hip, but hes doing well. Reporte im happy hes a alive. This morning, we get a glimpse of what it was like to live with Florida High School shooting suspect nikolas cruz. The couple responsible for taking care of him after his mothers death, kimberly and james snead, who tell the sun sentinel, we had this monster living under our roof and we didnt know. Saying he followed house rules to the t. They described him as depressed and say he went to a therapist just days before the shooting. The night before the massacre seemed like any other. While the Justice Department investigates failings within the fbi to report past warnings of cruzs behavior, theres already talk of his sentencing. The Broward County state Attorney Says this grievous act is the type of case the Death Penalty was designed for, this in someone to the public defender who says he hopes prosecutors will agree to life in prison if cruz pleads guilty now. They want students from all over the country to join what theyre calling a march for our lives. Trying to push lawmakers to pass tougher gun laws. Organizers behind the womens march, an antitrump and female Empowerment Program are also calling for a 17minute walkout on march 14th to protest congressional congressional inaction. Nearly two dozen San Francisco residents graduated from that high school where the shooting took place. Many gathered yesterday to make a video of support. Abc7 News Reporter lisa amengula reports. A spacex satellite launch from Southern California has been delayed. The falcon 9 rocket, carrying an observation satellite for spain was scheduled to lift off from Vandenburg Air force base this morning. That satellite carries an instrument to make radar images of the earth for government and commercial purposes. Spacex officials tweeted the team is taking additional time to perform final checkouts. The launch has now been pushed back to wednesday. Neighbors in San Francisco are standing together to fight property crime. You know its increased dramatically over the last year. Abc7 News ReporterElissa Harrington has the story. Reporter at the base of San Franciscos famous tiled steps in the intersunset are these signs, warning people about car breakins. The city didnt post these. These are homemade, the work of residents fed up with what they call a lack of leadership. They started their own crimewatch, called stop crime sf. It was a lot of frustration in the city. People are banding together to really hold the criminal Justice System accountable, from the police, prosecutors, judges and politicians. Reporter saturday they invited phil ting to speak. San francisco is getting hit like crazy. Reporter he introduced a bill that would result in car breakins being classified as misdemeanors. We can only create the laws or fix the laws and then they need to be implemented. Reporter Rachel Miller garcia said the warning signs are helping and some residents and installed security cameras. Theyre doing everything from breaking into tourist cars in the neighborhood to running up and down our streets and ringing our doorbells to see if someones home, and then breaking in. New details this morning involving the warriors and the operators of oracle arena. An arbitration hearing is set for the summer over millions of dollars of debt payments. A cold front is working through the bay area. Some of you are seeing showers, the winds are picking up. Heres live doppler 7 right now. You can pick out the speckling of the clouds. Thats indicative of a pretty cold air mass. From mt. Tam right now, it looks a little more like the season, 51, San Francisco, 53 in oakland. Mid 50s san jose. 50 at the coast. And from our east bay hills temperatures this morning are still in the 40s and 50s, but theyre going to struggle to stay there. In fact, some of these numbers could be the highs for the day. 55 in concord, 54 in surface winds at 24 miles an hour, and up above, 40 miles an hour. North winds, 25 to 40 miles an hour today. Evening windchill, what it feels like to your skin, in the 30s. Sprinkles, chance were seeing some of those now and maybe even a mix into snow. The coldest night, monday into tuesday where the National Weather service has issued a freeze watch and well likely see this upgraded to a freeze warning. Most of the moisture is running parallel to the coast and is offshore. But weve already seen some showers. With the air mass getting colder, its likely the snow levels will be at a thousand feet or even sea levels. So the best chance of accumulating snow will be in the Santa Cruz Mountains. And the winds, check it out, 30 to 35 miles an hour. The yellows indicate lighter winds. Finally by tomorrow afternoon, the winds back off, but its still going to be a breezy and cold day. So from the mountains standpoint, it looks pretty good. Winter weather advisory. A lot of you probably wanting to go up for the president s holiday, but look whats happening, six inches to under a foot of snow through tomorrow. The advisory through monday afternoon. Certainly take the chains if youre headed what way. Ten inches tahoe city. As for highs today, struggling to stay into the mid 50s. The northwest winds, gusty at times. Sprinkles, the chance of a shower and isolated rain snow mix. Tonight, yeah, weve got the moisture off the coast. So 30s, below freezing in the north bay. Tomorrow will be the coldest night with the temperatures sub freezing both monday night and tuesday night. In the valleys, we could see frost. Around the coast, this is going to be the coldest air we have seen in many, many years. Certainly the season, thats not hard to do with how warm weve been. Some of you have reached your high temperatures already as the northwesterly winds gust up to 25 miles an hour. This is just at the surface. Upper elevations, 40 and 50 miles an hour. From our east bay hills camera, partly cloudy with 40s and 50s the next hour. Noontime, low 50s, gusty winds throughout the day. Some showers, maybe some mixed precip. A passenger plane has crashed in a foggy mountainous region of southern iran, killing all 65 people on board. The death toll was listed at 66 earlier this morning, but state media said one passenger did not make that flight. Officials say the plane used for short distance regional flying went down south of of tehran. There were 59 passengers, including one child, and six crew members. Now to the russia probe, President Trump is tweeting, tying together the School Shooting in florida with the russia investigation. Abc News Reporter kenneth moaton has reaction and the latest on the investigation. Reporter overnight, President Trump blasted the fbi over the florida School Shooting and the russia investigation. Tweeting, very sad that the fbi missed all the many signals missed out by the Florida School shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove russia collusion with the trump campaign. There is no collusion. The president also attacked Media Coverage of the special counsels indictment of 13 russians for alleged interference in the 2016 election. The president , who now appears to believe in the investigation, is focused more on when the russians allegedly started meddling. Trump tweeting, funny how the fik news media doesnt want to say that the Russian Group was formed in 2014. Maybe they knew i was going to run, even though i didnt know. The indicted russians, accused of spreading fake news on social media accounts and infiltrating the american political process. Investigators say the goal to disparage Hillary Clinton and support donald trump. In an interview, the Vice President responded. Theres no question that russia sought to interfere, perhaps with other countries in our electoral process. Its essential that we take action. Top Trump Administration officials now calling out russia. With the fbi indictment, the evidence is now incontrovertible. Reporter trump appeared to criticize that comment from his own National Security adviser, tweeting, general mcmaster forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the russians. We are now hearing from the family of a hero student who used his body as a human shield, saving his classmates during the massacre. He took bullets so others were not hurt. That school will be closed through wednesday. Officials hope to have staff return to campus by the end of the week. Abc News Reporter victor okendo has the story. We just called me and say, dad, somebody shoot me in the back and my leg too. Reporter its the phone call no parent expects to receive. Roger burgesss son anthony telling him hed been shot multiple times at school. He was shot four times . Four times. One in here, one in here, another one another one here and he get two on this. Reporter but the 15yearold wasnt going down without a fight. His father tells us anthony saw the gunman coming, shutting the classroom door, pressing his body weight against it, while being shot, protecting the students inside the classroom, all of them making it out alive. Hes my his close friend d beaming with pride as well. None of us knew what to do. He took the initiative to save his classmates. Reporter the freshman is now in stable condition, but with his harrowing story of survival comes 17 others with heartbreaking endings. Now students from that high school are calling for tougher gun control this morning. Some of them appeared to this week this morning to talk about a walkout planned for next month. People are saying its not time to talk about gun control. Heres a time, march 24th, in every single city. Were going to be marching together as students begging for our lives. This isnt about the gop, this isnt about the democrats. This is about the adults. We feel neglected, youre either with us or against us. The students go on to say any politician on either side whos taking money from the nra is responsible for shootings like this one. Bay area democratic congressman Eric Swalwell was asked about a proposal by senator Dianne Feinstein to raise the age limit to purchase an assault weapon. His response i think we should ban assault weapons, every country should have a ban on assault weapons. I understand she wants to raise the age to 21. But i actually think we should do what she did before, she led the charge to ban them. Abc7 news caught up with swalwel in heyward as he met with his constituens for coffee. What was supposed to be a relaxing cruise in the South Pacific turned into a violent nightmare for some passengers. This after vicious brawls broke out over the course of several days. The carnival legend set sale from melbourne, australia, but had to return to port after several days of fist fights. The brawls began when one guest stepped on somebody elses flip flops. Some blame a group of two dozen people traveling together. Terrifying, like people screaming, running around, throwing glasses. Nig nightmare. Blood everywhere, peoples faces getting smashed in. Security guards had to intervene, but how they handled the fight is always raising questions. Weather changing pretty rapidly out there as the winds kick up and the temperatures begin to feel a little bit more like the season. Heres a live look outside from mt. Tam. You can see the cloud cover and right now, its shaking a little bit. But the winds are certainly gusty up above, 20 to 40 miles an hour. So in santa rosa, mid 50s today. Tomorrow only in the mid 50s. All week long, we struggle to make it to average readings, which wiell be shy of. You know it had to happen, we were running way too warm for three weeks. The last time it did rain was january 25th. Were in our 23rd dry day, but some of you are reporting showers this morning. So from Mountain View to the coast, weve seen a little bit of precip, and thats all were going to get. Usually these very cold systems hold very little moisture and there will be several this week, but thats the point, theyre not going to bring much in the way of moisture. You can see from live doppler 7, the speckling of the clouds. Thats the indication of the cold, cold air out there. And this is san rafael, its along the coast, santa cruz in the 60s last, a little bit cooler. And we saw low 70s at the concord airport, the livermore airport, say goodbye to that. We could see record low temperatures for several days. 52 by the delta, as well as livermore, and its 50 in santa rosa. Currently, the winds at the surface, were looking at very breezy conditions. 23mileanhour winds at the airport. And east bay, 24mileanhour winds and the gusts much, much stronger. San jose, 101. You can see the cloud cover, looks like february. Partly cloudy skies, windy and cool today. A freeze watch in effect for monday night into tuesday. The president s day holiday does not bode well for traveling to the mountains, but we are expecting snow there. With the freezing cold temperatures here, mixed precip, we could see sleet and a rain snow mix, certainly along the coastal hills. A freeze watch here with widespread sub freezing temperatures to the north, this will be upgraded to a warning as we get 24 hours out from the event. So tonight were going to be almost as cold, but a little bit of wind will keep us right around freezing. Looking at the precip, you can see hs units running parallel e coast. Worst case is you could get a temperature difference that would affect some of the ripening and characteristics of the grapes.
