Almost always accompanied by a driving rain. It seems like it should be raining right now. Rain is always good for these things. It strips away all the makeup, all the, you know, everybody looks like a wreck. And the hair is falling down. And the idea of ignoring it. Their love has taken over. And the two of them kiss thats the only thing that matters. We had a moment like that in life as we know it. In fact, ive been in a few romantic comedies. Like the ugly truth. Were hoping that in the next quarter we can oh. Whats wrong . Nothing. Theres probably more embarrassing than faking an orgasm in front of hundreds of people. Give it a go at your next party. It is so typical of my own behavior to tend to put other peoples needs first and then resent the hell out of them for it. So. The conflict. A good romantic comedy never makes it easy. It always makes obstacles in the way, things that will hopelessly impede a romance. I used to dream about you getting hit by a cab, or poisoned. Reporte yet we find ourselves rooting for them. If its told a story that resonates with us. Bridesmaid dresses . This is none of your business. Oh, good god. What, you kept them all . Theres so many of them, the dresses that were so ridiculous. There was the gone with the wind dress. There was the western one, too, where i was on the horse. The scuba wedding is my favorite. We actually went under water and shot that with an underwater photographer. It was so cool. But every Good Conflict has to resolve. And sometimes a little alcohol helps. You have to figure out how youre going to get from here to there, resolve it in a really fun way. Lots of craziness. Bennie and the jets how many of you can say this hasnt been you after a few too many at a bar . And who really knows the words to bennie and the jets anyway. Electric boobs, right . Electric boobs. Is it boots . What are the lyrics . Up they go on the bar. Shes a little drunk. Shes making herself look a little silly. So, if youre willing to do that in a movie, were going to root for you. Now someone that everybody whos ever loved a romantic comedy roots for is meg ryan. Ahh men fell in love with her. And women fell in love with her. And it really launched meg ryan as a romantic comedy icon. Shes talking about when harry met sally. And everyone remembers what was served up at that new york city deli. Oh. Are you okay . Oh. In the original script, sally was just going to tell harry, women fake orgasms and meg ryan was like, you know, why dont i just act it out . But when filming started, rob reiner thought meg ryan needed a little more direction. And i went through it. I started pounding the table, yes. Oh, yeah, right there. Its sort of two oddballs, and might be not your two type call people falling in love. Ione says cusack came into the role with his own very specific version for the character of lloyd dobler. John cusack was like, im going to wear this raincoat and bandana around my calf. You know, his style. Must be a chicago thing. In your eyes cusacks character serenades her with a boombox and the Peter Gabriel hit, in your eyes, but little did everyone know. We werent together when the boombox scene was happening. I just imagined that he was outside. In the film, iones character eventually falls for lloyd dobler. In real life, ione says, she was falling for cusack. I remember sitting next to john and just, like, oh, i sort of like, oh, no, im falling in love, im falling in love. We never did anything about it. But it was still a big i still think we had feelings for each other. And thats why we love romantic movies. Because every kind of love however improbable is possible. We love the prince charming, we love the man who adores us, and would do anything ridiculous, or wonderful, or big or small for us. I dont think hes reeling in embarrassment. We had a scene when aunt voola is going to talk to the new inlaws about the growth on her neck. So, i go to the doctor and he did the i cannot contain my laughter. Inside the lump, he found teeth and a spinal column. So, finally, they hate to remove me the set, because i was killing it. Yes, inside the lump was my twin. My aunt voula really does have a lump on the back of her neck that is her twin. With the family assembled, there was still the role of nias Love Interest to film. When we were casting, i wanted john corbett to play the role. Corbett was best known for his role on sex and the city. Im aidan. Im humiliated. Its my fault. I shouldnt let it run loose around the store. But he wasnt available. Corbett was already shooting a movie in canada that, a romcom called serendipity. Can we do this later . Yeah. She doesnt mind. With less than a week before shooting was to begin, they still hadnt cast the role of ian. And thats when fate or serendipity stepped in, to a bar where nia and a producer were having drinks. Well, in walks john corbett, right into the bar. Apparently he was there filming a movie, which we knew, and the bartender said, so, whats up next for you . And john said, i dont know, but i just read this script in my room, my big fat greek wedding and im going to be in it. And i went, what just happened . Once shooting began, it was clear that nia and johns characters came together tzatziki and souvlaki. We were doing the proposal scene and john and i filmed it several times in the morning, the scene doesnt feel right, it feels stilted. On the dvd extras, you can see takes of the proposal scene. What are you doing . You can have this. Now you can have this. I realized, with this much chemistry, you dont need a lot of talky talk. Its two people looking at each other, will you marry me .
