Thankfully they made it here to san jose safely just after midnight. They landed at 12 04 a. M. , and they took off from Orange County. That is four hours late, though. The trouble started as the plane southwest flight was pushing back from the gate in Orange County at john wayne airport. The ground crew told the captain there was a fire at the back of the plane. Evacuation slides were deployed and all 139 passengers and five crew had to slide down to get off the plane. One passenger posted her reaction on instagram. Another talked to us via face time. Literally emergency evacuating our flight because its smoking. Oh, my gosh. Girl, my heart is like beating. The stewardess at the front of the aircraft screamed evacuate, evacuate, evacuate because of the smoke coming out of the tail of the plane, lots of smoke. You could smell it. His girlfriend alleges he dragged her during an argument at a home in los gatos on sunday morning. The report says the encounter left the woman hurt, but the extent of her injurie has not been revealed. The woman told dispatchers during the 911 call that foster owns several semiautomatic rifles. Officers ended up recovering one firearm. Foster met with Team Officials yesterday. The niners say theyre still gathering information about the case. Foster is currently free on bail. A few final words from a dying woman helped Alameda County sheriffs deputies catch two suspected of killing her. We brought this to you as breaking news at 11 00 yesterday. A passing driver spotted the victim bleeding badly and crawling along tesla road in the hills east of livermore around 2 00 in the morning. She was able to tell police what happened before paramedics rushed her to the hospital and she died there. Her information led deputies to a man and a woman in modesto. We dont know yet what the motive could have been. A move to silence the National Anthem has sparked debate at one east bay school. The Student Leadership at san ramones California High School pulled the starspangled banner at school rallies. Lilian kim explains why. The rally got going and i realized there was no National Anthem. Reporter the omission was unusual since rallies traditionally start with the National Anthem. He was told Student Leadership removed the song due to what many consider to be racist lyrics in the unsung verses. In a letter to the school paper the student body president specifically noted the third verse which in part says no refuge could save the hireling and slave. He wrote this verse translated finds joy in the killing of africanamericans. To think that our nations anthem once had the word slave and land of the free in the same sentence leaves me speechless. Education department will no longer investigate rance gender bathroom complaints. The Obama Administration ordered schools to allow students to use bathrooms that align with their gender identity. President trump rescinded the order soon after he took office. The white house now says its up to individual School Districts to decide the issue. Civil Rights Groups say the administrations move could endanger the welfare of transgender students. A racially insensitive chant during a basketball game has turned into a teaching moment for students on the peninsula. The chant was aimed at students at Mills High School which has a majority asian population. During this game against burlingame, students were taunting their opponents fans with the chant, we cant hear you. Some burlingame students chanted back something that many interpreted as antiasian. People from our school shouted back, we cant see you, referring to the eye shape and eye size of the predominantly asian population at mills. A lot of classroom conversations took place. Each class has a student representative, and so classrooms were engaged in the conversation. Student leaders at burlingame have apologized to mills students and the District Administration says mills handled it graciously. Happening today a permit center will open in Sonoma County to help survivors of the october wildfires start to rebuild.
